"Assassin's in Venice?
'Creed 2: nobody expected the Roman inquisition...

Assassin's Creed 2 has entered focus testing, and the testers can't help flapping their lips about according to a 'net report this past month. It's not uncommon for Ubisoft to test games with the help of random Montreal residents to check for accessibility issues. Testers are led to a dedicated focus test room- which we've visited ourselves, as it happens- and are NDA'ed up to the eyeballs and forbidden to speak about the game anywhere...except one NDA-busting source claims to have sat through footage of Assassin's 2 in preparation for its debut later this year.

The game is said to look very similar to the original, but is now set in fifteenth century Venice, which would place it around the time the Inquisition was doing its thing across Europe. Testers were asked to chose between three character designs for the Venetian Altair, named 'Ezio' (for 'Eagle') in sketches. The new Altair can swim, use gunpowder-based weapons, and disguise himself when he fancies playing Beadle-style pranks. Or killing people, presumably."

So what do you guys think? Sound legit enough?
Nosferatu
What's the term I'm looking for...

Pics or it didn't happen.
Caael
Well I'm questioning it myself, I'm not saying that it's 100% true.
Legolastom
Yeah I heard about this from a number of places. Would be cool if it is in that setting.

Same. Seems plausible but I wouldn't take it for any more than a rumor yet.

...Nah, too easy.

Sounds like they're pulling an Age of Empires. Next game, 19th century London?
Mallick
there won't be a next game, methinks. by then ubisoft will be belly up >:

I'm surprised nobody has posted this yet.

I was gonna, but then I decided people's hands here need some exercise so I thought **** it.

But we all know Toasty's hand doesn't need anymore. Amirite or amirite?

The first thing I noticed was the 18+ in the corner, which hopefully means dismemberment.

That's a good way to ruin the game.
Caael
Well what else would 18+ mean? You wouldn't really have drugs or sex in game about a 14th century assassin.
Legolastom
And you would want limbs flying every where completely ruining any credibility the game might have?
Caael
Not in a major way, just like as a new combo. I dunno.

Drugs and sex existed back then, didn't they?
Caael
No ****, but how would they exactly fit them into the gameplay/story? Raiding opium dens is understandable but raping prostitutes or whatever?
Split Infinity
God of War comes to mind.

Seems some people are getting early copies of this month's issue of Game Informer. You know. The issue that has a ton of details on Assassin's Creed 2.

Provided, of course, that this is all correct (we haven't seen the magazine ourselves), here's some of the stuff you can expect from the sequel to one of 2007's biggest games:

- Your range of weapons has been greatly increased, with new armaments including two swords, two "smaller blades", a mace, spear and an axe.

- No more silly drownings, as Altair can now swim.

- As expected, Da Vinci's workshop features in the game (it's set in 1476), and yes, you'll be gliding around on those wings of his.

- The game stars real characters of the time, including Machiavelli and Florence's powerful Medici family

- There are now "16 unique mission types". And, thankfully, no more pickpocket or eavesdropping ones.

- Tracking down hidden flags will now net you in-game rewards, rather than a simple sense of self-satisfaction.

Those are the most interesting parts. You can read the rest of it over on ScrewAttack, who have the full run-down.

:D

From ScrewAttack.com itself:

*SPOILERS possibly?*

- You'll have a ton of new weapons to choose from including an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, 2 different sword types, a spear axe, and 2 smaller blades
- You CAN swim
- Da Vincis workshop is in the game
- Locations include Saint Marks Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, and the Rialto bridge.
- The game opens in 1476, Altair is from 1191
- So you do indeed play as a new ancestor of Altair / Desmond
-You will see the countryside of Tuscany
- The "Auditore" family is mentioned
- The main characters name is Ezio Auditore de Firenze
- He is a nobleman of Florence
- Big characters are in the game including Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
- YOU DO INDEED GLIDE on Da Vincis flying machine.
- Game will feature a new notoriety system that governs how enemy soldiers and people will treat you.
- You can disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them this time.
- Each weapon has a special move.
- 16 unique mission types.
- No more ease dropping or pick pocketing missions.
- If you get beat up to much you will need to see a street side doctor to regain full strength.
- Hidden objects (like flags in the first one) are there to uncover but this time if you track them down you will get in-game bonuses that make it worth your time.
- Items include, flags, statues, and gold coins and more that isnt mentioned.
- New enemy types with unique attitudes and weaknesses are present in the game. Archers are mentioned, as well as elite enemies, dagger wielders, "Brutish" armored troops with heavy armor and 2 handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you're near by.
- While hiding in a hay bail you can assassinate people this time, but it may expose your position.
- You can still climb towers and ride horses
- The Lorendo de Medici assassination attempt is in the game.
- There is now a night and day sequence in the game.
- 240 people are working on this title.

New Altair:

Glad they retained most of his normal look...looks sexy wub.gif
Someone Else
God damn, looks BADASS.

This looks promising, the only nagging doubt I have is repetition. Most of Ubisoft's open-world stuff is not bad, but repetitive. Assassin's Creed 1, Far Cry 2...
Caael
The DaVinci wings better be awesome looking because I imagine a clunky wooden set of wings would ruin his image a little.

Oh my... good thing about AC1 was that I went into it without any prior research or knowledge of the game or its plot, I don't think AC2 will afford me the same experience.
Caael
Yeah I'm really gonna have to stop reading all the hype for this because no doubt I'll be dissappointed. However, seeing as it's only improving upon the ACII formula and not really removing anything, it should be good.

This game comes out tomorrow in US, and in three days for Europeland. Who's buying? Not me, but not because I don't want it.
Caael
Pre-ordered, and will be mah last game I buy until ME2.

Will tide me over for a while, especially with the customisation stuff.

I've just been informed of an amazing deal at Toys R Us today.

"Toys R Us will give you $20 towards purchase of a second game. Assassin's Creed then also has a deal with Toys R Us (though I don't know if it's only with Toys R Us) where you will get a $20 store credit. On top of that if you spend over $75 you get another $10 back."

Source is GameFAQs, but I've been told about great deals at Toys R Us for games lately (I guess Toys R Us wants to get into the game retailer biz) from reliable sources so this is probably legit.

That's basically two games for 70 bucks vs. 120 bucks. So... tempting...

Caved. Will post impressions within a day.

AC1 + 10x gs_joy.gif - stupid/quirky stuff = AC2

In other words, if you liked AC1, GET IT. If you didn't like AC1, get it anyway, because it's greatly improved. In particular, the notoriety system works really, really well. I wonder if Ded Read Deremption will use something similar...

But be prepared. Lucy (the main chick) is fugly. She looked a little weird in AC1, but not too bad. And she actually looked almost pretty in the screenshots this time, but in the actual game when the faces are animated... my GOD, she looks like she has down syndrome.

edit: Oh and this game is actually funnny.

Soooo I just finished the game.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Too many questions and shit. Complicated conspiracies and shit. Also, some of The Truth is pretty tricky. I had a hunch on the last one and got it right.

GoTY worthy in everyway.

Nos I gotta ask, do you enjoy your games when you beat them in like a day?

Actually this was... 3 days. Says something bout the game if I can power-game it for 3 days to finish it.

But yessir. I prefer my sessions un-interupted and satisfying. Like Caael when he masturbates.

Wow, that's a nice length.

Alright, two things about this game that I would change, they're small:
  1. You can kill hundreds of guards, get 100% notoriety, but if you tear down just four flimsy wanted posters you crimes will be completely forgiven and forgotten, and you'll back down to 0% notoriety. I think that's a bit lame, tearing down a wanted poster should only subtract 10% notoriety, just enough to make petty crimes like stealing or annoying a guard be forgotten but not enough to make a difference at higher levels. To me, it just doesn't make sense to bribe a herald with 500 florins to lower notoriety by 50% when tearing down two posters for free has the same effect. In fact, tearing down posters could even be ruled out as an option past 50% notoriety or so. After a certain level of notoriety, it would make more sense to deal with the source of my notoriety directly than something externally, in this case, wanted posters.
  2. The combat system is the same as AC1 more or less, but with a lot of additional moves and weapons, which really works great. There is a way to break the combat system now (I don't mean countering) to make every fight winnable, though (as far as I know, I don't think I've fought every enemy type) and that's a problem I have with it. I won't give it away, but you guys will probably find it. At the least, fighting this way isn't any fun so I never us it, so it's not a big deal.
Game is AMAZING, this has been a good year. That's three games that have blown my mind this year, and potentially four if I love Dragon Age, which I probably will. Usually I'm lucky if I find one game that I really, really enjoyed.

I can combine the two by wrapping the controller cord around my cock. Feels good man <3

But yeah, just played the game for 8 hours straight, stopping only for piss breaks, eating and drinks. It's so good, from what I've played so far, it's taken over Borderlands as my GOTY candidate. From the 8 hours i've played, it's been the most enjoyable game I've played all year.
