Yeah, it's kinda annoying. I even resulted to buying 30 sacred feathers to avoid them.

Very annoying, and that's without the Lure Cap on
but RPG's are like that...

It would be better if it was an active battle system... like the new Tales game coming out for GCN...
I used Avoid a LOT... you can always make up for it with Wonderbirds later.

Mabey it's just me but I try to fight every battle that comes to me, but I do agree, they can get a little annoying, especialy if it's against stupid monsters that take a little more time to beat than normal ones and give just as much points. I hate those.
DarkIris
Apr 30 2004, 09:23 AM
I did the same thing you did MysticKnight, except Each character has 30 sacred feathers. And i barely ever fight battles, except against enemies I know dont take too long or give a lot of exp, most of the time I just run from battles.......maybe thats y Babi lighthouse is blowing my underleveled ass out of the water

................stupid monsters

The first time I beat the game, I went for a time record and I totaly avoided the weak monster battles like on the main map. I gave golden feathers to all my charactors like what DarkIris did. One other thing I did is that I tried to get as many djinn as I can while still trying to beat it fast, so I only ran off of djinn power as well. I put each djinn to it's element as well.

I cant stand battle. they are so annoying when you want to get from one place to another, without having to use up any psynergy on healing or attacks!
DarkIris
Apr 30 2004, 03:23 PM
I know Mia

. Like whenever I'm trying to get from one side of a room to another I get in 50 battles

Its really annoyin. I wish we could kave like repel like in pokemon( yes i still play that!) you end up running out of psynergy for the boss battles
MysticWarrior
Apr 30 2004, 04:43 PM
You can get "repel" in Golden Sun. It's called a sacred feather.

In my no random-battle games, I always have to run from a battle.
When you're at such low levels, if you don't succeed in running, you get killed. To combat this, hard reset. Your chances for running are 100%.

Avoid sucks. I used it on Tundaria and still got into tons of battles.

I'm going to ask you never to post that again DarkIris. Anyways, The battles actualy don't annoy me any more. I just keep clicking A whenever I have to fight monsters. They do the work on their own. I hold up that way do to how strong they are now.

I just noticed this topic. Hell yes. I think that there are more battles in GS1 than is GS2. In Golden Sun, as soon as you finish a battle, you can only take like 5 steps before the next one. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, it's about 30 steps, anyway, you get my point right. Battles suck. The zelda battle system is waaaaaaaay better (exept with maybe a few more moves).

I still disagree. The battles occured just as much in the first game as in the second one. But They are still worth fighting. If you don't let them bother you, they won't.
avoid to prevent battles(+sacred feathers), lure cap to get more- pretty easy really
Enoch
Jun 2 2004, 05:57 AM
That's why I never use feathers or avoid. I always use lure cap. I say, "Bring it on"
And it dousn't hurt oyu to fight weak battles so why avoid them?

... I like battles, especially the EXP to turn Boss Battles into a point where you are the boss and the "ex" boss licks your feet.

I'm with you two, come and have some if you think you're hard enough. It gets me EXP points so what's wrong with it?

I guess they are only annoying to me when I don't feel like battling. Otherwise, it's cool to see unleashes on poor wimps!

Yeah, or when your head hurts, and you finally figure out the puzzle only to get into a huge battle, and forget it

Yes, I have bad memory, but otherwise, battles are just fine.

The battles are annoying sometimes. You know whats annoying also the EXTREMELY long cutscenes!

The first time I beat the game they were annoying as ----, but I think part of that was because I was rushing to get to the next part so I could find out what happens. @_@ But the second time, I just battled each and every battle I encountered, and never lost to a boss the whole game. So they're definitly worth it, if anything. The second time I used avoid twice and 0 sacred feathers. The only reason I even used avoid was because I was in the Venus Lighthouse and I wanted to finish so I could give it back to the friend I borrowed it from.

well i like fighting the battles cuz it levels you up and makes it easier to fight the bosses
Primal
Jul 16 2004, 07:48 PM
liek omg, battles are so much more annoying in GS1, GS2 battles were less and better, in GS2 there are so many and they are twice as hard!
*goes and cools off*

Jul 17 2004, 09:49 AM
to tell the truth, i've never used a scarced feather or avoid, i fought every battle i had, it makes fighting bosses much easier
ForteGX
Jul 19 2004, 10:14 AM
Yeah, I don't avoid battles either...how else can you gain experience?
Sky Dragon
Jul 19 2004, 03:18 PM
i never avoid battles, but i never go train in the wild, i do that at the end cuz i know i can get a lot more EXP w/ less battles (a.k.a. wonderbirds)
ForteGX
Jul 19 2004, 03:59 PM
Yeah, but there are no Wonder Birds in GS1, are there?
There are Phoenixes in the Mars Lighthouse in GS:TLA. But no Wonder Birds in GS1.
Sky Dragon
Jul 19 2004, 04:04 PM
nope there aren't but there is the tempest lizard whom i killed over and over again...so many times...hint* he gives you a potion for every time you kill him and all my characters maxed out hand had to drop them
ForteGX
Jul 19 2004, 04:07 PM
Defeating Saturos and Menardi and then losing to the Fusion Dragon gets you 6000 exp.
Though, it's not enough...
Sky Dragon
Jul 19 2004, 04:08 PM
yeah but you have to go through all the dialogue and stuff, takes too long. i prefere fighting the tempest lizard cuz i kill him in two turns
ForteGX
Jul 19 2004, 04:33 PM
Yeah, but that way you have to go through Suhalla desert over and over. So it's pretty much the same: 1/6 of the time, 1/6 of the exp.
Sky Dragon
Jul 19 2004, 04:54 PM
nope, it's 1/5 the EXP cuz the tempest lizard gives you 1200, and plus you get a free potion
ForteGX
Jul 19 2004, 05:15 PM
Your right...I hate math.
If only you could gain experience in the Battle Arena. How awesome would that be?
Someone Else

It really does, 'specialy in GS1, it doesn't seem to happen as often in GS2.

Annoying as they get; you just can't afford to flee from a single battle.

i never avoid battles, the higher level you are the easier the game is.
Kaj
Jul 30 2004, 01:22 PM
I don't think the batles are annoying att all. Somtimes, battles are the same, and it goes like: bash A, A, A, and A. But still I don't think it's annoying. And how will you gain experience if you don't fight??
ForteGX
Jul 30 2004, 01:50 PM
Well, random battles aren't as bad if they offer a nice reward (1000+ exp. at Venus Lighthouse, rare item drops, etc.).
Mallick
Jul 30 2004, 02:45 PM
Yeah I love those kinds of battles but the others get pretty annoying somtimes!!In my first file I was only like level 24 and then I tried battling Saturos and Menardi then beat them but died first round second battle!so I trained to the top level!!!

With the Tempest lizard method, why does everybody use Suhalla desert?! You can let the pink tornado take you to Crossbone Isle, then kill the lizard. Then you just enter the main area at Crossbone, leave, and he's back. No long desert travels, just a short distance across the world map.

That is an annoying scenario. Fortunatly for me I never get a random battle while doing any puzzles.
And since my friends and I plan on making our own 1-4 player rpg for xbox, ps2 (multitap req.), gamecube, and gba (link cable) with and active battle system so each player can do what they want when they want in a battle.
For example you can run around in circles if you want. or if you a wm you can stand back healing your allies while they do the attacking. also you can go any where on the world map at anytime without dragging your allies along.
so you can level up alone (you get more exp cause you alone).
Does that sound like a good battle system.
Of course our random battles will happen often but not whilst your doing a puzzle in any of the dungeons.
(however in the middle of a battle new monsters can attack you from behind at anypoint so watch your back.)
