If you don't know what "multi-touch" means in the world of technology, it means any interface (a touch screen in this case) that can accept multiple inputs at the same time. Well, Microsoft has taken a coffe table, a touch screen, and a computer capable of "multi-touch" and mushed it all into this fancy little thingy they call the "Multi Touch Coffe Table." This thing is absolutly amazing. Not only can you do a whole bunch of stuff on it that you could on a normal computer, but you can do it as of you were using anywhere between 1 and ten mouses at a time! Though this kind of technology has already been in use in the military and some corporate buildings, this is the closest it's gotten been to commercial availability. Soon though, you'll be seeing these in some high end hotels (I'm talking four - five diamond rated hotels). They run for anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000, but it's possible that in the future, these kinds of things will be found just about everywhere.

So, here's the article, along with a video. http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology...ry/4217348.html

Great stuff, finally we're seeing revolutionary technologies (points at iPhone, the Sony OLED, and now this). =)
This was all over BBC News, imagine that =)

But since I'm a Micrsoft hater, I'd just like to point out, Microsoft didn't create this technology. They just bought the firm that created this specifically, and there's existing tech like this out already eg. reactable and JEFF HANN (VERY SIMILAR) =)

I thought you liked MS, Eugine...

Microsoft buys everything! They're Microsoft, c'mon!

Nah, I'm not. Even if I did (which I can't recall), I've changed my opinion ^^

But still, this technology is great. It's Microsoft vision that mouse and keyboard will become absolute, something I can't wait to happen; and this technology brings us one step closer. Anyone seen uh, Minority Report? It reminds me of that movie.

You know, scientists have actually been able to create working devices that are VERY similar to devices seen on Star Trek. Among the few are a Plasma Shield (don't get your hopes up, it only defelects small magnetically charged particles, and weak energy waves), or a plasma "beam" of sorts that can be used by doctors to disinfect wounds without touching the patient, or mabey a "Tri-Corder" of sorts that tells you everything about your surrounding environment, or possibly a Hologram, the list goes on.
I can't find a source on the internet for this, but it was on the History Channel, so it's not like it was all made up.

That looks fantastic. I loved the way he just dragged the picture across the screen from the camera to the phone.

Obsolete. :) I've still got it!

Microsoft is obviously hoping that this will be big. A future where we are surrounded by interactivity...pretty soon that credit card will have flash memory, and we'll all be carrying our desktops around.

Have you seen a Micro SD card? Half a millimeter thick, and about half or less than a half of a centimeter long. That small, yet they can hold 2Gb. 2GB. Now comparing that to the fact that onnly a few years ago we had inch long flash drives that held 64Mb, and you can easily picture carrying around all of your PC files in your pocket. Right now, I can carry about 1/3 of my files, and about 3/4 of my important files thanks to my sauceome flash drive. =D

^ I heard about that a couple weeks ago. They really are trying to reduce the of memory sticks, etc. and make the space on them bigger.

This table looks like something you would see in a futuristic movie. Technology seems to be movie a lot quicker than I thought. ;)

Judging by the size of Micro SD cards, it should be theoretically possible to make a 12Gb flashdrive the same size as our smallest 2Gb ones. But then you have to add all the stuff that allows it to be considered another "drive" of sorts that would be recognized on PC's.
