I've been back in the US for about a week now, but I have been taking some extra time off to relax and enjoy myself. I had planned to officially return to GSS on Monday, but some recent news from the E3 conference has prompted an early return.

As Nick highlights in a forum thread, two photos of a purported Golden Sun: DS have appeared, and have been circulated by popular gaming-blog-site Joystiq.

While I was initially excited, as surely many of you are/were, upon further examination, it appears that these pictures are just the latest fakes. The shots show what appears to be the title screen of a GS game, titled "Golden Sun: The Solar Soothsayer." The background art, however, is from the previous GS games, and not original artwork for the game. Also, given that Camelot is a Japanese development studio, an early prototype version would almost surely be in Japanese. Translations usually occur very late in the game development cycle, so that arouses further doubt about the image's veracity.

Further discussion can be found in Nick's thread (linked above), and I will post any further news or rumors that I learn of. E3 will continue for the next few days, but if a GS game was going to be announced, it most likely would have been already at yesterday's Nintendo keynote event. Hope is not completely lost, but it is seems increasingly unlikely that we will see this game.

I'll make another post early next week about my whereabouts and plans, and if I hear anything else about the games, I'll post before then.

If there's any such thing as a GS3 I'll eat my hat.

Although examining the top screen I don't see much to pick apart. Somebody went to the trouble of rendering that image AND coaxing it onto the LCD in real-time. Not impossible, but a bit of trouble. Unfortunately the subtitle text seems really plain and the background doesn't seem to be doing anything (Same in every shot). And then there's TLA art on the bottom. Whatever. Good luck, folks.

Bravo Opium, bravo. I'm sure the point is well proven now. Capcom starting work on GS3 because of this? Erm, I'm not so inclined to believe so. :P
