The Sun was high in the pale blue sky. The beautiful day with its calm winds did not suggest that danger was just round the corner. Indeed, the people of Isolde, a small and peaceful village in Catelinium, were all going about their business as they usually did. Some were farming their lands, while others were butchering their pigs for meat. They were foolish in believing that Rivicius would never attack their homes, in believing that their king would protect them.

A small army of soldiers entered the village, ignoring the stunned looks of the populace. Their black armour identified them as Rivicians, their long spears glinting in the sunlight. The group of Halberdiers, Snipers, Generals and Druids did no harm to anybody until they requested to enter and search through a couple of houses. The families whose houses these were refused to let them in, so the soldiers had no other choice but to use force. They used their weapons to slay the adult tenants and gain entry to their dwellings.

Only thirty minutes later many of the houses were in flames with villagers and soldiers alike lying on the ground in pools of blood. The battle was far from over though, as there were plenty of people left on both sides. It was rare for a pathetic little village such as Isolde to rise up against the powerful army of Rivicius. However, all able men and women rushed towards the enemy with objects they called weapons; poorly made, fragile swords and axes used for chopping wood. Leaving all their belongings and cattle to burn, mothers ran from the village with children at their sides and in their arms, crying for their fathers who had remained behind, even though it meant almost certain death.

The smoke and fleeing villagers were visible from a long distance, so it was inevitable for adventurers to see the chaos.

      Folcon's POV

Folcon walked contently through the trees, listening to the singing of the numerous birds around him. It's so peaceful here, he thought, as he began to whistle softly in tune with the chorus around him. In time, he came to a clearing and walked into it. He walked into the clearing, followed by a pair pf sparrows and approached the center, where he looked up and smiled at the sun above him. After a few minutes of reveling in the pure light, Folcon realized something was different. Then, he realized why, the birds that had been singing cheerfully nit minutes earlier, were silent. The Sparrows that had followed him, gone. Thats was when he noticed the wind had shifted. Moments ago, he had been up wind, with the breeze blowing against his back, now, it was blowing into his face. And on that wind, he smelled, Smoke? He looked up again and saw a large pillar of smoke rising into the air not to far away. "Why should I concern myself, these are still the lands of the humans," he said aloud to himself. "Besides, its probably some fool festival. And yet, I don't recall one this time of year." With a shrug of his wings, Folcon took flight and flew toward the smoke.

When he got close enough, to see the source of the smoke, he landed in the top of a tall tree. There he saw that the village was burning, and among the burning buildings, he could see humans killing each other. "Humph," Folcon snorted, turning away. "Just the humans trying to kill each other again." He was about to take flight and leave, when he heard a woman's scream, which was abruptly cut off. He snapped his head back around to see a solider, a Halberdier, in black armor pulling a bloody spear out of the dead woman's back, then plunge it into the infant beside her. Folcon paled slightly, this wasn't some petty battle between rival villages, this was a massacre by professional soldiers. He could not, he would not, let this continue.

Turning back to the village, he opened his wings, secured his blade, and threw himself off the top of the tree, flying straight toward the Halberdier.

      Meanwhile, thousands of miles away...

      Haku's POV

Haku navigated his way through the crowded streets of Amarial, until he came at last to a large, richly ornamened front door to a huge mansion. Silently, he reached into a pocket and withdrew a ring, then slipped it on his finger, it fit perfectly. He quickly took inventory, he had the ring, he had the right address, and he had his hopes. He readjusted the straps of his pack, and shifted his bow and quiver to a more comfortable position. It's now or never, he thought. He raised his hand and rapped on the door.

It was early afternoon, and Darkrai, as usual, headed to Lenani. He nimbly jumped from one rotted log to another, those being the only dry things in the swamp. The mud and decaying grasses gave off a pungent smell, but Darkrai was used to it. He lazily wondered what news he would hear when he got there. When a decomposing log caved in under his feet, he nearly slipped and stopped for a minute to regain his balance. A few stunted trees grew in the drier areas, and small, furry creatures climbed them in search of a meal. Large insects buzzed by and frogs poked their heads through the mud. It is truly a peaceful place here, he thought. The dangerous creatures only live in the very middle of the swamp. But here... anyone could live here. He continued to the village, knowing that many people would be too afraid to live in the swamp.

The trees grew taller and stronger, telling him that he was leaving the swamp and entering the forest. The ground now was firm enough to walk on. Then, small, shabby buildings appeared through the trees. Darkrai entered the small clearing that was the location of these houses.

He had arrived in the village of Lenani.

(( BTW, Aqua, what season is it? ))

Samuel opened the door and glanced down. A crow was standing on his doorstep. It was far too small to be one of the people of Corvis, yet it was looking at him with intent. He stepped outside, the crow hopping out of the way. It continued to stare at him.

'What do you want?' he asked, crouching down. The crow cawwed at him and raised its leg. Attached was a small, slightly burnt package. He reached out for it, but the crow hopped away again. He smiled to himself. It wanted payment. He held out a gold coin for the crow, which it grabbed with its beak. It then let him untie the package before it took flight towards the west. Samuel glanced around; nobody seemed to have witnessed the exchange. He took the package and went back inside, closing the door.

He sat down at his desk and opened the small package. The inner layers were increasingly bloodsoaked. He unwrapped the last layer. A severed finger was now lying on his desk. Samuel stared. Was this a threat? He couldn't think of anyone whom he was particularly close with, save for his horse, which was currently whinnying in his stable. Perhaps it was a message? He examined the finger more closely. The blood was slightly warm, and the finger was not yet shrivelled. It had been removed several minutes ago. But who did this? And why?

His horse suddenly neighed loudly and stomped the wooden floor. Samuel strode outside and tried to comfort the horse, but he noticed that it was staring to the west. He looked off into the distance. A tall column of smoke was slowly rising from the village of Isolde. The package had been burnt. It was surely a cry for help. And the crow wouldn't have pecked at his door without a good reason. He went back into the house and collected his dual lances, then he mounted his horse, and together they took off through the countryside.

He took the finger with him.

(OOC: @R-Dog: Season... I guess it could be Summer. @Split: The village is called Isolde, the country is called Catelinium)

Aldous stood at the ready, his lance held high over his head. He looked swiftly from left to right, thinking of the moves he should use to take down his foes. Suddenly, he pulled his lance behind his back and made a sweeping motion, then made a few steps backwards and stabbed the tip of the spear straight into the tree.

Feeling content, he looked at the trees he was training with. "Ha," Aldous said, "If those were people they wouldn't stand a chance against me." Then came another voice from behind him, "Real people would try to dodge and attack you! Idiot..."

Aldous turned round to speak to his twin sister, who had the same red hair and scarlet eyes as he did, "I don't see YOU doing anything, Ariana! At least I'm..." But he stopped, because Ariana put a hand up to silence him.

"What's that?" she said, looking at the sky. Aldous concentrated and said after a couple of seconds, "Smoke".

He ran towards the edge of the forest without another word while Ariana grabbed her staff, following close behind him.

Soon enough, they were entering the village of Isolde. They were disgusted by what they saw. Rivician warriors attacking the inhabitants of their country was exactly what they've been trying to stop. "Darn!" Ariana yelled, "Why didn't we see this earlier?! It's all because of your useless training..."

She ran to help an old, bearded man who was obviously losing from an enemy Druid. Her light magic would make easy work of that sucker. At the same time, a Halberdier charged at Aldous, but he defended himself with his own lance. "Ha, you don't stand a chance," he said to the enemy soldier, "You're just a grunt, while I'm a master of the lance."

'Then I guess this village ain't big enough for the two of us.' said a voice from behind. Aldous knocked his enemy down and turned to face the hooded stranger.
              'What?'
'The name's Samuel.' he replied, his lances chinking behind his back. 'What happened here?'

              - It's short because I'd rather not control the conversation.

"Rivician scum is attacking our villages, that's what happened here!" Aldous said to Samuel, "You better be on my side," he added with a smirk. Turning round he saw a group of four heavily armoured Generals charge at the two of them, their lances and swords ready for killing. "You ready?" he asked the hooded man next to him.

Using her Silence staff, Ariana sealed the enemy Druid's ability to use magic. The cloaked man attempted to use his dark magic failed. Ariana flipped open her magic tome and quietly read a few sentences from within. Two beams of pure light came rocketing down from the heavens. They fell on either side of the Druid and he was engulfed in a bright yellow glow. With a shriek of pain, he fell to the ground.

Ariana turned to the old man she was defending and used her staff to revitalize him. However, it was too late. He was already dead, lying on the ground with his eyes open and motionless. With a yell of rage, she attacked the person closest to her; A man with wings and a sword.

                  Folcon's POV

Folcon had just finished dispatching the Halbredier and was looking around for another opponint, when he heard a scream of rage behind him. He spun around swinging his sword to face this new threat, and saw it was a girl. Swearing, Folcon turned his blade at the last moment, striking her with the flat of the blade and knocking her to the ground, where she moaned softly and passed out.

"Stupid human," he said, stepping away from the girl and glancing around for any other soliders. Seeing none, he approached the dead Halbredier and examined the armor. Rivicius, I should have known. He then pocketed the small pouch of coins the man had had with him. And looked around again before prepairing to take flight.

'Well I could just crush their souls but that wouldn't be much fun, would it?' Samuel replied. Lances drawn, he and Aldous ran at the charging Generals.

Samuel ran along the side of a wall, pushing himself off and catching one of their heads in a leglock and forcing him to the ground. He instantly spun around and impaled another man in unison with Aldous, then pointed his palm at a third man, who began gouging out his eyes against his will. Aldous decapitated him, ending his screaming. The last General backed away for a moment, then broke out into a run. Samuel and Aldous lowered their weapons.

'They're all yours, Jo.' Samuel said to his horse, who trotted over and began tearing away at the dead Generals. Aldous grimaced at the sight.

                      Haku's POV

The door was opened by a man in a suit. The man looked down his nose at Haku and said with contempt, "May I help you?"

"I wish to meet the owner of this house."

"And just who are you?" the butler replied.

"My name is Haku. I am the son of Victoria and Desmond Harthorne," Haku said, holding up his hand to show the ring. "And I have come to see my family."

Watching the horse tear apart the carcasses of the Generals, Aldous said to Samuel, "Yeah... Um... I'm Aldous. Thanks for the help." Looking around, he saw some villagers tending to the wounded and others limping back to their partially destroyed houses. The ground was covered in glistening blood. There didn't seem to be any more Rivician soldiers. Perhaps the remaining ones had retreated.

Turning around he said, "This is my sister Ariana..." He stopped talking for a moment and turned his head from left to right. "Ariana? Damn, where is she?! We mustn't get separated during battle!" he said, beginning to feel frightened. He ran down a couple of streets between houses, all the time calling her name. He turned a corner and finally saw her.

A man with white hair slashed his twin sister across the face. She keeled over and did not move again. "NO!!" Aldous yelled, running towards the man who had hurt his sister. He didn't know what he was doing, he just wanted to cause him great pain.

Morris sat down in the back of the bar in Tiftok. His fedora covered his skeletal face. He grinned as he sat in the pub in Catalinium. This was one of the 3 regions he wasn't exiled from. He stood up, and walked out into the fresh night air. Despite having no lungs or nose, he breathed in a gulp of air. He walked forwards, cracking his knuckles and elbow joints. He walked on. He had no direction he was going, he would just drift around. He didn't need to eat or sleep, so he had no need for money. He could feel pain and breathe though.

A scream echoed through the small town. Morris shot round to the source and blinked towards it. Drawing his sword, he heard shouts of ' Rivicus Soliders are attacking' and more screams. He saw flames in the distance and the sound of clashing metal and horse hooves. He ran towards the noise, blinking past the block of houses in the way.

He saw a charging Knight coming straight at him. He held his palm to it and it fell to the ground in a pile of ash. Another knight was nearing, and he cut off the spear arm, blinking backwards and stabbing the kinght through the ribs. Morris heard the cracking sound and relished it. He withdrew the sword, and the knight's soul was split. Two out of the whole raiding party were dead. He sighed, and blinked towards the knights who were heading in another direction, obviously scared of him. He took off his fedora, laying it on the ground. He didn't want it damaged, and then blinked off towards the chaos. He saw the true damage that the soldiers had already done: The cathedral was burning, and whole rows of houses were getting attacked by battering rams. Morris ran on, finding some foot soldiers.

' Crap, my sword will be useless against the spear' He cursed, and ran past throwing a small fireball at the soldier, enough to set him aflame. He ran on, into a paladin. A paladin with a spear.

' Dammit!' He didn't have enough energy to cast more magic, so he got ready for a lengthy battle.

Oh well, too late to change now, I'll just have to work it in. Please don't do something like this again though. I'll post in-character later, when more people have posted. ((OOC - just a reminder Aqua, Folcon has blond hair in this RP.))

                                Folcon's POV

Before Folcon could leave, he heard an anguished cry behind him. He turned just in time to avoid the thrust of a spear held by a young man with red hair. Glancing at the young man's face, he noticed the similarity to the girl he had just knocked out. Swearing, he shoved the man back, causing the red head ti loose his balance and fall flat on his ass. Before the red head could get up, Folcon had the tip of his blade pressed against his throat. "Why don't you humans leave me alone," Folcon said gruffly. Before the young man could answer, Folcon turned away and sheathed his blade. He kicked the spear away and began to leave, then paused. "Tend to your sister kid, she's going to have a nasty bump by tomorrow." He then continued to walk away.

                                Haku's POV

After his anouncement, Haku was brought inside and was taken into a lounge where he was told to sit and wait untill the Lord of the House returned. Now here he was, three hours latter, and no one had yet to show themself. Haku wasn't realy surprised. From what Leyon had told him about Beorc nobilty, such a wait was typical.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, a large man came into the room and looked Haku up and down. After a few more moments, he sneered, "So you are the one who claims to be my sister Victoria's hier. And you even have a ring that should prove it. Tell me boy, where is my whore of a sister?"

The village of Lenani was a shabby one, as all Beorc towns in Corvia were. Darkrai strolled up to a certain house and knocked. He heard the grunted reply, "Come in," and entered. "Hello, Uncle," he said cheerfully.
"Aye, Darkrai. How are you doing?"
                                  "Good, good. Any news?"
"Our neighboring town, Pelom, had a bad spring crop. They're struggling."
"Ahh..." Darkrai sighed. Farming was always unpredictable near the swamp. Although the mud is rich in nutrients, these nutrients differ from area to area and season to season. Every town has had their share of plentiful times and harsh times.
"How are we doing?" Darkrai asked. Often, towns will share any extra crops with a town that's struggling.
"We're barely getting by, ourselves." Silas replied.
"Let me take Jacob," Darkrai said suddenly. "I can teach him to hunt and we'll bring the meat to Pelom."
"Good thinking, Darkrai." Silas whistled and yelled, "Runt! Get over here; Darkrai's tutoring you today!"
An enthusiastic young boy came from another room, eager to travel.

                                              "Again?"

Isaac was looking for work in Isolde when he heard a scream followed by the sound of metal piercing through flesh. Now, after a short amount of time, most of the village was ablaze. Isaac, a wandering mercenary born in Amarial, was growing increasingly tiresome as his country's soldiers raided these villages. As Isaac was running along, he saw several Bandits enter the village, determined to plunder the area while no one else was looking.

"Heh, look what we have here, another raid from Rivicius' soldiers!" one of them said, probably the leader because he was more muscular than his two lackies and held a Steel Axe, while the others' axes were made of iron. The leader said a couple of words to his lackies, and they started to split up.

Isaac, knowing that these Bandits would make it harder on the villagers, took after one of them. Isaac jumped on the Bandit's shoulders and twisted his neck quickly and sharply with his feet, cracking the looter's neck and instantly killing him. Isaac found the next one already raiding a house, a woman and her baby both brutally slaughtered. Isaac slashed the Bandit in the back several times, followed by a final thrust to bring him down. Isaac took the Vulnerary that the Bandit had, then ran off to track down the leader.

Isaac found the leader swinging his axe wildly but viciously at two Rivician soldiers, who seemed to have trouble getting anywhere close to him.

"I am Arvel! Remember my name!" The Bandit yelled. "I will drive you soldiers out and claim the village for my own!"

"Gah, you stupid ruffian, we don't want to deal with you...!" one of the soldiers said, but didn't say anymore as Arvel easily destroyed his lance.

Isaac finally had enough and stepped out.

"Alright, you idiot Bandit, I'm sending you to the afterlife."

(OOC: I was attacking Folcon. I thought his hair was white, because it is in the GS RP... I think)

"You *******!" Aldous yelled, getting up and charging at Folcon yet again, but he suddenly tripped over. Ariana had grabbed him by the leg. Looking up at her brother she said quietly, "He's the one, Aldous. I think I've finally found the person we need." Aldous looked at his sisters muddy face and said, "I think I've also found the perfect man for the job. That guy," he pointed toward Samuel, who had just walked into view. "Two people..." Ariana contemplated, "That's even better!"

As quickly as she could, Ariana stood up and yelled to Folcon, "Hey you! The guy with the wings who hit me with that stupid sword! Please wait! Please please! We've got something to ask of you. Something very important." Aldous walked up to Samuel and said, "Come, my friend. You should also hear what we have to say."

                                                In Tiftok

Watching from the window of one of the tallest towers of Tiftok Mansion, Tristan could see the damage the Rivician soldiers were causing. He watched in agony as the magnificent Lanarq Cathedral, one of the greatest structures in all of Catelinium, burned. Pushing back his long blue hair, he wiped a tear off his cheek. Then he saw something that made his insides burn with fury and revenge, but most of all great sadness; Half the roof of the Lanarq Cathedral collapsed into the cathedral itself. What if people had taken refuge inside of it? What if his brethren were suffering under the ruins right now?

He made up his mind. He walked alone down the dark steps of the tower. He paced through the dimly lit and graceful halls of the mansion. He ignored all people who tried speaking to him. And he reached his destination. Tristan pushed open the large oak doors and walked into a luxurious room. Tall pillars lined the long red carpet that lead to a beautiful throne on which sat the King of Catelinium.

Approaching his Lord, he bowed. The King was starring at his own knees, like a little child. He seemed to be deep in thought. Finally, he looked up and said, "You may speak Tristan."

"My King Jayden, greatest of all rulers, I have served You faithfully and humbly for over thirty years. I have followed all of Your orders without question, for I know You wish only the best for Your fellow Catelinians. I dare request the permission of posing a question to Your Highness."

Jayden scratched his grey hair and said sharply, "I know what you will ask, Tristan. You'll just have to trust my judgment, as you always have."

Tristan looked up at his King. His eyes were filled with tears. "Why do You allow Rivicius to attack your nation again and again? Why do You do nothing while your people suffer?! I need these answers, or I will go mad!... Your Highness."

"You have been my most loyal General for years. You have been my right-hand man. And you still are. Do you wish to throw your life's work away with such questions?"

Tristan stood up. He could barely contain his tears as he said, "With... Great grief, and for the first time in my life... I will disobey a direct order given by You, the King of Catelinium. I am truly sorry, but I am going into the streets of Tiftok and defending my people with my own lance and sword." He turned his back on his leader and headed for the big wooden doors.

Jayden stood up and yelled, "How dare you?" his voice echoed off the majestic walls, "How dare you not do as I say?! This is treason! Come back here NOW!" But it was too late. Tristan was already gone.

                                                  Folcon's POV

Folcon paused and turned back to look at Aldous and his sister. "Why," Folcon said, his voice dripping with contempt. "Why would you humans want anything to do with me? You don't know who I am, what I may have done, or what I can do. You know nothing about me, yet you want my help. After attacking me no less. I have no desire to help humans."

                                                  Haku's POV

Haku jumped to his feet, moved forward, and lifted the man in the air by his coller, despite the fact that the man probaly outwieghed him by a good sixty or seventy pounds. "Don't you dare defile my mother's name that way," he growled. "She died giving life to me, I will not hear you besmearch that sacrifce." He then dropped the man on the floor and stood over him.

"You got your father's arragance boy," the man said, pushing himself to his feet. He looked Haku in the eye and said, "Why are you here, nephew?" with a certin degree of empthasis on the word. "Have you come to take your mother's place of power. To claim her money, my money."

"I don't give a damn about your worthless money or power. I can because I wanted to know who my parents were and what they were like. And why they fled Rivicius."

"Simple, your mother was a whore and your father a tramp. They were drivin out because of their dangerous ideas about ending the slavery of the sub-humans."

"Don't say that," Haku said, growing more angery. "My mother was no whore!"

"You never even knew her," Haku's uncle spat at him. "She died before you could know her. And she was probably glade to die, so her son wouldn't know what a whore she was."

"I said don't call her that!" Haku raged, lunging for his uncle's throat. Before he could get there though, the doors burst open and several armed soldiers came in. One pulled him back wjile the others leveled their spears at him.

"Arrest this boy," the uncle said. "He came here claiming to be the son of my dear late sister and used tha as an excuse to try to get close to me so he could kill me."

"That's a lie," Haku shouted struggling against his captor. untill one of them hit him over the head with the butt end of his spear and knocked the boy out cold.

"I want this assasin exicuted as soon as possible. Put him in with those disgusting, beastly sub-humans. maybe the'll tear him appart for us." The soilders nodded and began to drag Haku's limp form away. "Wait," the man said, causing the to stop as he came forward. He picked up Haku's hand and removed the ring on it. Now he'll have no proof of his claim, the man thought. The man nodded and the soilders dragged Haku away to the prison.

                                                    Morris looked around.

' That was the last of them' he muttered. He went back to retrieve the hat, and headed towards the gates. Citizens came out of their houses to watch. The mayor approached Morris.

'' We would like to thank you for securing our town. We owe you eternal gratitude. As we have little funding from these recent attacks, we cant offer you much, but lest you come by again, we will offer you as much service as possible.'' Morris thanked him and walked through the gates. He was headed towards Rivicus, to settle a score from long ago. He was looking for a sage named Hransltar. Everytime he heard people praising him, Morris had to restrain himself from lashing out. He hated that man. He wished only death upon him. He walked over a hill and the town left his vision. From the top of the hill, he saw a massive forest about 10 miles away, to the west. This forest was near Rivicus, and if he could get there before sunset he could rest there.

He started his journey of revenge.

Darkrai walked toward the swamp with a hyper Jacob bouncing along beside him. He tried to tell Darkrai everything at once, so his sentences ended up running together. "Boy, I'm glad I could train with you, Darkrai! Silas is so grumpy all the time. He's always yelling at me when I don't get a spell right or if my form isn't perfect. I wish he wasn't so nit-picky! So what're we gonna do first? Huh? Huh?"
When Jacob paused to catch his breath, Darkrai said, "We'll be hunting, so it might be in your best interest to keep quiet."
Jacob was ready to launch into another one-sided conversation, but then he realized what Darkrai said and he shut his mouth. Darkrai, spying a furry creature, proceeded to take it down with a blast of fire.
"The trick here is to cast a spell without saying its name. This prevents your foe from knowing what's coming."
"But, saying its name helps me concentrate!" Jacob whined.
"It helps everyone concentrate, Jacob. But this is a skill you will eventually have to know."
Jacob looked for another furry-thing, raised his hands, and focused. His hands glowed and a small spurt of fire came from them, but it only succeeded in scaring the creature away.
"I can't do it!" Jacob cried.
Darkrai chuckled and said, "But, you did cast the spell without words!"
"Well, it wasn't any good," Jacob huffed.
"Oh, it was only your first try." Darkrai began walking again and said, "Come. There are more creatures deeper in the swamp."

A bloody soilder crashed into the fortress. His wounds were more than enough to tell this elite squad that the previous attack had failed.

Ria stared blankly from her tent, she had warmed the commander that this would happen. Yet the arrogant leader think that females were incapable of tactic planning.
The dying soilder was immediately sent to the medical cabinet, who was later announced dead.

Reveria looked back into her tent with a "I told you so" look on her face. The general commander smiled dryly at Ria. "Power alone is not enough, I hope you understand that, General Huges." The petit young lady said mockingly.

"Yes, Lady Reveria. So... that plan of yours.."

                                                            Haku's POV

When Haku woke up, he found himself in a large, dimly lit room. And hovering over him was an indistinct shadow.

"Hey Lars, he's awake," a young female voice called out, as the shadow moved away and was repleaced by another.

"About time you woke up kid," a much deeper male voice said. "We were begining to wonder if you were ever going to wake."

"How long have I been out?" Haku asked, his vision starting to clear.

"A few hours," the younger voice said.

Haku looked over at her and saw her siloete in the moonlight that filtered in through a nearby window, noticing promenent ears and a long tail. "You're a Laguz," he said, causing her to jump.

"Ye-yes," she stammered, trying to hide her tail behind herself.

"Don't be ashamed of what you are Nerid," the male voice said, drawing Haku's attention. "Yes, I am a member of the Beast Tribe as well," he said. "My name is Jasper."

Haku levered himself to his feet and held out his hand, "Name's Haku."

Jasper took the hand and said, "So tell me Haku, why are you not afriad of our apperance. And How do you know the proper name of our kind?"

"Why do I use the term Laguz as opposed to that disgusting term 'sub-human?' It's because I was raised among the Laguz of the Beast Tribe in Felorgo."

Nerid nodded and cautiously stepped closer. "So that's why you have a faint sent about you. But if you lived among our people for so long then why..."

Haku just shrugged his shoulders and said, "I've been traveling across the continent for the past two years trying to get here. You see, my parents were from Rivicius, but fled for some reason. But my father died before I was ever born. And my mom, she gave her life bringing me into this world. One of the local leaders took me to raise me as his own among his other children. I came here to learn about my family. To find out why they left thier homeland, and just to see if I had any family left alive. It's strange, I'm not really sure why I'm telling you all this. Lord Leyon, the man who took me in, always told me I was too honest."

"So how did you end up in fat-ass Baron Hamton's prison?"

"Because that fat-ass is my uncle. It seems my mother, Victoria, was his sister."

                                                            "You mean you're-"

"Baron Hamton's nephew, yes. My full name is Haku Harthorn. My father was Desmond Harthorn. Evidently, my dear uncle, didn't care for my reaction to his claims against my mother. I attacked him." It was then, that Haku looked at his hand and saw that the ring was gone. "And he took the only means I had of proving my claims."

"That would explain why he had you thrown in here. All of us are to face exicution in the next few days."

                                                            "Why," Haku asked.

"Because we are his slaves," Nerid hissed. "We had refused to follow his orders and resisted punishment. In his fear, he has sentinced us to death."

Suddenly a voice called out, "Will you keep it down."

"We want to live our last days in peace," called another.

"Just how many are in here?" Haku asked.

"Counting you, there are now six here. Those two you just heard, are Aaron and Kaal. They're brothers, and the biggist pair of hot heads I've ever known. The last is an old Tiger named Dorin. He's the oldest and has been enslaved here the longest. About forty years I'd recon."

Haku looked up and said, "Then its possible he knew my mother?"

"It's possible," Jasper said. "But you should rest. I will show you to him tomorrow."

Haku nodded, noticing just how tired he really was. Evdently spending several hours uncontious didn't restore much engery. He felt Jasper lift him up from where he wobbled on his feet and carry him over to a cot. "Rest here," the Tiger said softly. "Perhaps with your help, we can get free." But Haku didn't hear him, he was already asleep.

Jasper spread the blanket over the young man, whom still looked quite young for his age, he still looked very boyish. But he could see a maturity in him. Perhaps those two years of travel Haku mention had made him see the world in a new light. Jasper just shook his head thinking, I think too much sometimes. He then stretched out on the floor and went to sleep.

"Oh, you think you can take me on, kid?" Arvel sneered.

Isaac smiled slightly. "Simple brute strength won't get you anywhere while fighting me. You'll regret coming here unless you get out and stop terrorizing the citizens."

"Boy, now you'll know why the locals fear me!" Arvel barked. "Die!"

Arvel charged openly and wildly, axe raised. Isaac bent his knees and, as Arvel swung his axe, Isaac jumped to avoid it and kicked him in the face. Arvel recovered quite quickly, but missed two swings aimed for Isaac's head and right arm, respectively. Isaac punched Arvel twice in the stomach, then quickly pulled out his knife and slashed Arvel twice across his chest.

"Ugh...I'm not dying here, kid!" Arvel cried. "You think i'm going to regret this? I'll make you take those words back!"

Arvel lifted his axe, then swung it into the ground. Surprisingly, the axe cleaved the ground open and sent many big rocks flying towards Isaac.

"What...?" Isaac muttered to himself as he dodged and broke the rocks flying at him. For several minutes, Isaac narrowly dodged all the rocks Arvel made fly towards him. Eventually, Isaac closed in on Arvel and blitzed him with a flurry of punches, kicks, and knife slashes. Arvel fell, bloody, defeated, and quite dead. Isaac took his time taking Arvel's money and Elixers, then ran off without saying another word.

Morris stepped onto the first cold mossy ground of the forest. Here he would rest up for the night. He tipped his hat over his eye sockets and fell asleep.

He was awoken by gruff voices talking. He got up silently and looked around for the source of the talking. He saw a group of about 8 men, all with axes in hand.

' Bandits' Morris thought. They weren't affecting him though, so he decided to leave them alone. He looked up through the canopy of dark trees and saw the pink sky.

' Almost dawn' He told himself. Well if the bandits weren't there, he wouldn't have woken up, so he walked on. Through the trees. He trod on a dry twig, snapping it loudly. He heard the bandits grunt, and then the sound of running. Morris groaned. Fighting wasn't ranked highly on the first things to do in the morning list. He blinked forwards a few meters, into a small clearing. He didn't have enough energy to cast flame or Blink anymore, and he was in no mood to run. The bandits came closer, and then they came into sight, and he saw the leader point at him, and the 7 lackeys ran at him. The first one was beheaded, the second split into 3, the third had his soul shredded, the fourth he knocked out with a well aimed kick, the 5th he cut the ribs off, the 6th ran into a tree, and the seventh ran back to join the leader.

' Bandits are ****ing stupid' Morris laughed to himself, and sidestepped a throwing axe.

' Why do you feel the need to fight everything you come across? Because I'm a threat? Well yes, but if that was some child, you would do the same thing' Morris reasoned with them

' Enough babbling. We will end this now' The leader said. He drew a massive two handed axe, sliver, with inscriptions carved all over it. He ran forwards to Morris, bringing the axe down above his skull. Morris sword, and jumped out of the way. The axe had made a 2 ft hole in the ground. Morris ran up to him with his sword, slashing away, but to no avail. Armour was hidden behind the bandit lord's rags. Morris got one more slash in before the axe came down again.

                                                                      ' Crap' he thought.

"Oh... Yeah... Sorry, forgot about that," Aldous said to Samuel, "It's Aldous. And my sister's name is Ariana. Now please come." They moved closer to Ariana and Folcon, listening to Ariana speak.

"My brother and I, we do not hate the Laguz like so many foolish Beorc do. We have had many Laguz friends. Unfortunately, most of them were captured and enslaved, or even worse..." She walked a little closer to Folcon, "You are from the Bird Tribe, are you not? Yet you wield a sword. I trust this fact has made your life all the more difficult. Being a Laguz, Beorc wanted nothing to do with you... And wielding a Beorc crafted weapon made you an outsider to Laguz too. Yet you came to this village to kill some Rivician slime, which means you're not a bad person. You wanted to defend the helpless. Your hate for Beorc is understandable. Trust me, I often think of loathing them myself...

"However, what we wish to ask of you is more important than any dislike or discomfort we may feel around certain people. Aldous and I have been traveling through many of the countries for years, trying to help the needy and free the slaves. We believe we know of a way to put an end to the trouble's in Catalenium. To stop Rivician soldiers from burning our villages, to free all Laguz slaves owned by aristocrats in Catelinium. Will you listen to our plan? Both of you?" she added, turning to Samuel.

                                                                          In Amerial

Rowan stood in front of the closed wooden door, his hands upon it. He wondered what she would say. What his Queen would do. Finally, he gathered enough courage to open the beautifully crafted door.

He walked into the small but beautiful room he knew so well. For a moment he didn't see the Queen, but then he saw her standing next to a window, peering over her city of Amerial. Rowan closed the door, but remained where he was saying, "I bring news, Your Highness."

"News... Yes." Queen Aqualina said, still gazing through the window, "News is all Spruce and you have been bringing me. No solid facts... No clues... Only news."

A short silence ensued. Finally, Rowan said, "Our men found nothing in that small Catelinian village. And Tiftok..."

"Wielded no results," Aqualina finished his sentence. She turned round to face him. Her long dark blue, almost black hair billowed gracefully around her beautiful, pale face. "Instead of searching for knowledge in the Lanarq Cathedral, some idiot soldiers set it to fire. Even if there was information within the building, it is gone. Yes, Spruce has already reported this. The Lanarq Cathedral was a beautiful structure built together by Catelinians and Rivicians some hundreds of years ago. It is a great shame..." she said, turning to peer through the window again.

Rowan's aged face felt extremely hot. He thought of taking off his helmet but decided against it. He went on, "And about... Him. We have put up wanted posters all over our bigger towns and have offered a great reward for his capture or death. But..."

"Again, no information. Not even gossip." Aqualina said, "How does he, one man, keep setting me back? How does he manage to enter my castle, or even my country, completely undetected? How come you and Spruce, my two most competent men, can't even sight him?"

Rowan did not answer this. He knew Queen Aqualina was displeased by his constant failures. However, he also knew she was merciful. And for that, he felt nothing but gratitude for her. "By your leave, My Highness." he said, bowing.

"Go," she replied. Rowan turned round and exited the room. The Queen walked over to her chair and sat in it. She liked being alone. She could speak to herself. "I will find it... And I will find you too, Thane. Expert drawings of you have been put up all over Rivicius. Once I get my hands on you, you will feel nothing but excruciating pain."

You don't know my reasons for doing what I do. I care nothing for Beorc, or even other Laguz. I only helped because I was here and I had a chance to kill Rivicians, no other reason." Folcon said this, knowing he was lying, in truth, he couldn't bere to see the people of the village suffer. Had the nationalites been reversed, he still would have helped, if they were commoners. No matter what, he would never help Rivician nobals. Folcon look back at Ariana and said scornfuly, "Why should I help you? A Beorc, a child. I have suffered in ways no one should have to suffer, so tell me, why should I help you, when there is nothing you can offer me in return? I have no home, no friends, no family. I have nothing to fight for, so why should I fight?" At Ariana's stuned silence, Folcon just snorted and turned to leave.

' There is no unarmoured spot on my body, there is no way you can defeat me'. Morris looked at him, with a look of disgust. Morris ran off, into the forest, hiding behind a tree and delved into subconciousness.

' The back of his neck is chainmail, burn it.' He heard several trees falling as he came out of subconciousness. He had to find some way to gain energy to cast flame. He sat there, sitting in subconciousness. His soul was at rest here, and he could gain energy. He sat there for 20 seconds before he heard a crack behind him as the tree fell. He jumped out of the way, and strafed around the enemy. He saw the back of his neck for half a second before the axe came crashing down. Morris saw his window. He ran around, jumped up and placed his palm on the back of the neck, and it burst into flame immediately. He jumped back drew his sword and acrobatically span around and thrust the sword into the flaming chainmail, branding the mail into the Bandit's skin. As the mail was sliced away, he felt the crack of the spinal cord, and the puncture of the windpipe.

Withdrawing his sword as the body fell to the floor, he walked away, energy gone. He fell to the floor, asleep again.

"I wonder... What exactly are we fighting for?" Reveria shook her head. "Regardless, I must not question father's motives. Guards! Assemble the squad!"

Light rain had begun to fall as clouds covered the sun. The droplets slowly began cleaning the streets of Isolde of all the blood.

Ariana thought about what she would say next, as she watched Folcon walk away. If he truly wasn't even slightly interested in hearing what she had to say, he would have been long gone. "There is nothing we can offer you for your help. You would be doing this for the greater good. For Beorc and Laguz alike. You would be doing this to stop many people from suffering as you have... I'm not asking anything complicated of you. You haven't even heard what I request of you. It's not like we're going to end up traveling all of Renalay," she said, chuckling a bit.

While waiting for another rude response from Folcon, she turned to Samuel. "How about you? Do you at least want to hear what we have in mind?"

                                                                                  In Tiftok

Tristan walked the streets of the main city of Catelinium, searching for Rivician soldiers. However, he could tell there were none left. For some reason, they had attacked and then retreated shortly after.

He stepped in front of the destroyed Lanarq Cathedral and leaned against his spear. Half of the building was destroyed. Most of the roof had collapsed, and so most of which was inside was destroyed. He felt grief overcome him. Although there were less Catelinian casualties than he had expected, he still felt pain every time he saw a body in the streets, even if it was a Rivician soldier.

He was too late to help anybody. He had watched Tiftok being decimated and did nothing. He wondered what the King would say. He had disobeyed a direct order. There was nothing left to do but go back and request forgiveness...

' Damn, I really need to stop stalling. I've been in this forest for 2 nights now.' He got up, and exited the forest ( OOC: Cant be bothered with all the crap inside it). He looked over the hill, and saw another forest.

' Bloody hell!' He shouted and moved towards it. He blinked into the air and saw that it wasn't very deep, maybe half a mile. He sighed with relief and walked towards it.

( OOC: Again, cba to describe walking there)

He entered the patch of trees. After he exited this forest, it would be Rivicius territory. He looked up through the mass of leaves above him. It was Dusk. Fortunately, he hadn't needed to use any of his magic so he needed no sleep. He carried on through the trees. This forest was oddly silent. He hadn't seen and life, no animals, no flowers, no people. It was dead.

' I guess this is what happens when Rivicus is nearby.'He laughed to himself. He saw the exit in the trees, and ran for it. He looked out over what was now Rivicius. It was prosperous here, and although it was dark in the night, he could see that the soil was rich for growing, people had great wealth with the many castles scattered around, and there was little conflict between the towns.

' Paradise mirage' Morris said, and walked into the night air.

He looked up as he walked through the city, spotting the castle looming over the rest of the city. That was where he was headed. He stopped a passer by and asked him how to reach the castle.

' I'm afraid us common folk cant enter the castle. Only members of the military and those with an invitation are allowed in.' The man told him.

We don't want you to do anything complicated. Just come with us to Tiftok. We tried speaking to King Jayden of Catelinium, but he wouldn't listen to us because we're just two weak kids. However, you are obviously strong and quite intimidating if I dare say," Ariana said, hoping this flattering would persuade him, "So I believe he would listen to what you have to say."

"Yeah, you too," Aldous said to Samuel, "You're strong and all dangerous looking. If the two of you were to speak to him he would at least have to listen."

Ariana continued, "What we want you guys to talk to him about is the Rivician attacks. Tell him to defend his country! Tell him to stand up to Rivician tyranny! If he did that, so many people's lives would be spared! Then maybe even Accipitrin or Serphann would also attack Rivicius, and they wouldn't be able to terrorize anyone anymore! Not only do they attack Catelinium, they also assault Felorgo and Serphann from time to time. Please! Please do this! Just imagine how many people will be able to live in peace if this worked. There's nothing for you to lose." she finished and smiled widely.

It is best if I tell you now, I am a wanted man in Rivicius. I killed a noble there. I had been his slave for ten years. Finnaly, I couldn't take anymore, so I killed him and escaped, fleeing the country. Because of that, there might be complications if we go there. But, I have nowhere else to go, so I will travel with you as far as Tiftok. From there, we will see."

Haku woke the next morning felling groggy. As he ran a hand through his sandy hair, he winced as his fingers bumped a large welt at the back of his head. It had been bandaged, as well as a lack of cloth could allow, but it still hurt. Strange how he hadn't noticed it earlier. Sitting up, Haku looked around the prison cell he was in, and saw Nerid sitting on a cot not far away, and Jasper laying on the ground near his own cot. Farther away, he could see two unfamilier Cat Laguz, whom he took to be Aaron and Kaal, as they were young, and even from the distance he was at, he could tell they looked a lot alike. Aaron and Kaal were kneeling next to another cot in which lay an old Laguz that had to be Dorin, as there was no one else in the cell.

Haku drew the blanket of himself and stood up. He walked past Jasper, who was just waking up with a growl and approached Nerid. "You should thank Jasper when you get a chance," she said. "He gave up his cot so you could have it."

Haku blinked at that and nodded. "So what about what time is it?" he asked.

Nerid glanced at the beam so sunlight that came through the barred window and then at the floor, where Haku noticed scratches had been made at irregular intervals. "Almost time for what passes as breakfast in this prison."

"Don't get your hopes up though," Jasper said, coming to stand behind Haku. "At best, it gruel and stale bread."

And it appeared true, for in a few minitus, there was a banging on the door and a voice called, "Stand back you sub-humans, we're comming in." The door opened and a group of soliders entered carrying a tub of the before mentioned gruel, and a small bag with bread. The food was set in the center of the cell along with a container of water, and the sloiders left, closing and locking the door behind them.

"Let's get some things clear," Ariana said, "First off, you won't be intimidating anybody. King Jayden is very strong and not many Beorc in Renalay could stand up to him. Also, he's bound to be surrounded by well-armed guards."

"Yeah," Aldous said, "We want somebody like the two of you to talk to him because he might actually listen to you guys. He only let Ariana and I say two words before throwing us out."

"And this WON'T be a war!" Ariana said, "Please don't get us wrong, we don't want to start a major conflict. We want King Jayden to use the Catelinian soldiers, which he hasn't done in years. The soldiers joined the army in order to defend our great country, but they haven't had the chance to do so because King Jayden never summons them into battle when Rivicians attack. It will-" but she stopped speaking.

A man had suddenly ran into the center of Isolde and yelled at the top of his voice, "Tiftok was under siege! The Lanarq Cathedral was destroyed by Rivician soldiers! Many citizens were killed!" An old woman took a cup of water to the messenger before the man continued his run through Catelinian villages and tows to tell everyone of this grave news.

"What?!" Aldous said, stunned, "They're attacking the main city now?! This has gone too far! And only a few days ago they decimated a whole village on a Serphann island, killing half of the village's populace! See, this is what we want to stop! And it could all be put to an end if only King Jayden would defend his country! If only we knew why he is letting Rivicians ravage our lands... It would make things so much easier."

Well, at least as far as Tiftok. Although, why your king would listen to some Laguz like me, I have no idea. But if you want to go, we should hurry."

                                                                                                  Haku's POV

Haku quickly approached the food and was about to reach it, when one of the two brothers stepped in his way and pushed him back saying, "You eat last human."

Bristling, Haku pushed himself to his feet and was about to go after the cat, but found himself restrained by a strong grip. Looking at the hands that held him back, Haku saw it was Jasper. "No fighting Haku. If you do, we all get punished."

                                                                                                  "But," Haku said.

"That's the way it is," Nerid said stepping behind the other brother as the first began to hand out the food.

"Fine," Haku said, relaxing. Once Jasper let him go, Haku stepped back and let the Tiger go before him.

When it was his turn, the ca that had been passing out the food turned to him and grinned, with a touch of malice, "Sorry human, all gone."

Haku gave him a glare that was fierce enough to make the cat take a step back, and Haku took a step forward. "Why do you insult me cat. I have done nothing to you. I don't deserve this treatment from somone who is no better then myself."

"Grrr. What's that supposed to mean?"

"Stop it you two," Nerid said, steppin between Haku and the cat. "Haku, just calm down. And Aaron, just give him some food."

                                                                                                  "But there aint any left."

                                                                                                  "Then share your's with him."

"What, why should I-" Aaron began.

"Stop it Aaron." a soft, but firm voice said.

                                                                                                  "But Dorin," Aaron started.

"But nothing. Now come here, boy. I want a good look at you."

Haku nodded and walked up to the aged Tiger.

The tiger looked into Haku's eyes and held out his hand. When Haku took it, he pulled him close and looked even deeper, while breetheing in Haku's scent. Finnaly, he let Haku go and he stumbled back a step.

"You are indeed Victoria's son. You have her eyes, and smell similer. And I see a lot of your father in you too."

"You, knew my parents," Haku asked, stepping forward once more.

"Yes. I was a slave back when your mother was alive and living here. She was very kind to us, she treated us like people instead of the slaves we were. Your father was the same. A soilder from Catelinian, they both fought diligently to end Laguz slavery. But that didn't sit well with the councle, or her family. Before your parents could start thier next petition, your uncle sent assains after them. Your parents fought them off and fled the city. Thats all we knew about what happened to them. After a few weeks, your brother anounced her dead and claimed all her lands and property. But know this, your parents were good people."

Haku nodded and said, "Thank you."

"That's not all though," Dorin said.

"Did you have another vision," Nerid asked, comeing closer.

                                                                                                  "Yes," Dorin replied.

                                                                                                  "A vision?" Haku asked,

"Stupid kid," Aaron said, as his brother Kaal came over. "Dorin can ocationly see glimpses into the futre. Or so he claims."

"Brother," Kaal said, a look of shock on his face. "You should repect Dorin and his wisdom."

"Yea, I know. So what did you see this time old tiger?"

"You children are so impatiant," Dorin said.

"Not like it matters," Aaron said. "Our exicution is two days away."

"Will you just shut up," snapped Nerid. "Please Dorin, tell us what you saw."

Dorin nodded and closed his eyes. "I forsee a great battle. Already the peices have been set in motion. We will escape this prison, with help from an unexpected source, but not all of us will make it. The fires of war are burning. Already they have claimed much of the capital of Catelinian. When you leave this place, go West. Seek out the gold-winged Hawk and his alies. They will help you find your way." Dorin opened his eyes and looked around at those around him. "That is all I saw."

Suddenly, there was a gret disturbance outside the prison door.

Tiftok isn't far, we may be able to get there by tomorrow afternoon." The four of them walked out of the ruined village, the rain making their hair wet.

Ariana walked up to Folcon, "I'm Ariana, and this is my twin Aldous. I don't think I've caught your name Hawk?"

She read it aloud, "It has power beyond anything any mortal can imagine... Yes, yes, I already know all of that! The person in whose ownership it is will be able to- Gah, this is useless!" she said throwing the book into a corner of the room.

There was a knock on the door. "Enter." Aqualina said. The door opened and in came an older man, about fifty years old, with purple hair pressed against his head and a black circlet around his forehead. "Ah, Spruce," the Queen said, "How do the preparations go?"

Spruce bowed and said, "The preparations are proceeding according to plan, Your Highness. In a day or two we will be able to attack Catelinium."

Aqualina nodded and said, "This will be the biggest assault yet. I will be highly disappointed if it wields no results. Have the placards around our towns helped yet?"

"If You are asking whether or not somebody had reported to have seen Thane, then the answer is no." Spruce said.

Aqualina was just about to say something when the door burst open with a bang. In came a young girl with yellow hair that fell down both her shoulders. She walked straight up to Aqualina and said, "Is it true?! Are you really going to attack Catelinium again, mother?!"

"Yes I am," the Queen replied with a smile, "I am doing it for you and Rivicius, Midori."

Midori shook her head and said, "But why, how will this do any good?! I asked you to stop!"

"You'll find out one day why I do this, and you'll thank me."

Midori did not know what else to say. She could not believe what was happening, she could not believe her parent would hurt or kill so many people. Turning around, she stormed off and out into the corridor.

"Should I go after her, my Queen?" Spruce asked.

"No, leave her," Aqualina smiled, "You'd better get back to helping Rowan organize our troops. Take the door behind me."

"Very well." Spruce said bowing and left through the other door.

Folcon glanced over at Ariana and fidgeted with his vest a moment before saying, "My name is Folcon." After a few moments, Folcon slicked back his wet hair and spread his wings out, then cupped them around his body to act as a shield against the rain, and to keep himself warm as the temperature started to go down because of the rain.

                                                                                                      Haku's POV

"You will let me pass or I will see to it that the Baron has you sent to the front lines," an angrey, but young voice said. "Now move it."

"Yes, young lord," came the hasty reply, as Haku heard the bolt in the door scratch open.

Haku moved towards the door and was about halfway across the room when the door opened and a boy of about fifteen entered, followed by several guards. The boy glared daggers at the guards and said, "Leave me."

"But sir," one of the gurads began.

"I gave you an order. I'll be fine," the boy snapped at the guard.

With a sigh, the guard nodded and motioned to his fellows and they filed out of the cell, closing and locking the door behind them.

The boy looked around the room and saw Haku. Approaching, the boy said, "So your the one that's got the baron so scarred." He walked around Haku, looking him up and down. "I don't see why, you don't look that dangerous." He came to stand before Haku once more and said, "So tell me cousin, if indeed you are my cousin, why should my father be afraid of you?"

It was around noon. Folcon, Samuel, Ariana and Aldous arrived at Tiftok after a night of traveling with the occasional rest here and there. Thankfully, they met no Rivicians or bandits along the way.

"Look at this," Aldous said sadly, approaching the ruins of Lanarq Cathedral. Repairs had already begun and many people, including a big number of volunteers, were helping rebuild the towering building.

"We've got to get going," Ariana said, resting her hand on her brother's shoulder, "Tiftok Mansion is close by."

After a couple of minutes of walking through the crowded city, they saw the spectacular mansion with its many towers. The windows glinted prettily in the young Sun. They walked up a long flight of steps before reaching the structure.

They paced through beautifully decorated halls, meeting many people along the way, including Beast Laguz that seemed to be quite busy. Finally, they walked up to the large wooden doors that was the entrance to the King's chambers. They were wide open, and the King already seemed to have some visitors. Next to the entrance stood a couple of large and armoured guards, among which was a man with long blue hair and a kind face.

"Hi Tristan." said the twins. "Oh..." Tristan said, looking at them, "Ariana, Aldous. How are you doing?"

"That's not exactly a question that should be asked in times like these..." Ariana replied, "But we're doing well enough. What happened when Rivicius attacked? What did the King do?"

"Oh, er..." Tristan said, looking slightly uncomfortable, "It wasn't pretty. I abandoned my post to go help the citizens, but it was too late. However, King Jayden is a great man, so he let me return to my job. I am truly grateful... You can go in and speak to him if you wish, though I don't see why he would listen to you this time."

"This is why he might listen this time." Aldous said, pointing at their two companions as they walked into the big room. The King was sitting on his throne and obviously arguing with a man who was standing in front of him. A woman around twenty five years of age stood to the side, leaning against a pillar and watching them. Her face seemed expressionless as did her short grey hair and sharp blue eyes.

The loud discussion between the two men could be overheard easily, but it was a bit confusing listening to them yell at the same time, "Who are you to order me what to do?! I am-", "Yes yes, you're the King of Catelinium! You do nothing a king is supposed to do though. How am I ever-", "I do not care how you are to do what you try to, I have nothing to do with it!", "You know that when I succeed all nations will benefit, but you're too corrupt to give a damn, Jayden! All you think about is yourself and how much treasure you're going to get next time from-", "ENOUGH! I need not listen to this..."

But Jayden suddenly stopped shouting as he saw Ariana and Aldous walk up the long red carpet towards him. "You two again!" he roared, his face red with anger, "I said..." but again he halted when he saw Samuel and Folcon behind them. The man yelling at King Jayden turned round to see who the newcomers were. His pink hair, yellow eyes and think scar beneath his right eye were familiar to both Ariana and Aldous. They disregarded this and addressed their king.

"Here goes nothing," Aldous said quietly to the others and then raised his voice, "These are two friends of ours. This is Samuel, a master of the lance, and this is Folcon, a Laguz as you can plainly see."

"Yes, a Laguz..." Jayden said, looking at the sword Folcon carried, "What do you want of me? Don't tell me you're just going to be repeating what these two have already said."

                                                                                                        #52   Folcon

Folcon wanted to give man a death glare, but this was a king, so he had to show some repect. "Sir," Folcon said, inclining his head slightly, as close to a bow as he would ever give, "I'll keep it simple. Get off your damn ass and defend your country. What the hell are you thinking just sitting around while inocent people get massacured by Rivicius soldiers? While they invade this very city and burn a citadel to the ground? How the hell can you be a king and let your people suffer, Beorc?"

Haku just stared at the boy before him for a moment, then said, "You're the Baron's son?"

The boy smirked and said, "Yes, I am. Now tell me, why is my father making such a big deal about you?"

"Because I'm your cousin. He and my mother were siblings. My mother died giving birth and I never met my father because he died before I was born. I wanted to know about my parents, so my foster father told me where they were from and gave me my mother's ring. I came here, meet your dear father, and he threw me in here, after taking my ring. And without that ring, I have no proof of who I claim to be."

"So it would seem. My father is a fool," the boy said, his face softening. "I'm sorry. None of you deserve this. But my father won't be talked out of it." The boy around and walked back to the door and rapped on it. When the door opened, he started to walk through, but stopped on the threshold. "By the way, what's your name?"

                                                                                                          "Haku," Haku replied.

The boy nodded and said, "I'm Jake." He then walked out and the door slamed shut and locked behind him.

He stared down at the Hawk with fury in his eyes. The man he was speaking to moments ago walked away unnoticed by most and stood next to the grey-haired woman, observing what was happening.

"How dare you speak to me in such a way!" the King said, "How dare you question the ways I rule this country! You, who obviously are not a resident of Catelinium, you, a pathetic Sub-Human!"

Jayden opened his mouth to bellow yet another insult, when somebody had spoken before him. It was the pink-haired man he was talking to earlier. His voice was quite calm and quiet, but it seemed to demand attention of all the people in the room.

"This isn't getting anyone anywhere," he said and looked at Folcon, Samuel and the twins with his bright yellow eyes, "We'll be waiting for you outside the mansion. I have a few things I would like to speak to you about. And I suggest you don't waste your breath on him," he pointed with his thumb at King Jayden, "He's a typical human: selfish beyond measure."

The King said nothing to this. He just continued staring at the man as he walked away. The woman whom he had been standing next to followed.

"Elspeth, stop! I command it!" Jayden yelled. The woman turned round and looked at him. Everyone noticed she had a metal head-band on her forehead; the sign of a Falcon Knight. She said nothing so Jayden continued to talk, "You cannot just leave whenever you wish. You have a contract!"

"You can stick that contract where the sun doesn't shine, almighty King," Elspeth said, "You did not want to listen to my requests, so I will not listen to yours." She turned round and walked out of the room, past the guards.

Jayden sat down. All of a sudden, his face wasn't full of anger as it was only moments ago. Now it seemed very old and tired.

Once Jake was gone, Haku sat back against a wall to think. He looked up when he heard footsteps approaching and saw Aaron come forward and hand him a loaf of bread, then walk away. "Thank you," Haku said to his retreating back.

"Whatever," Aaron replied walking back to sit with his brother.

Haku returned to leaning against the wall and thinking as he ate the small loaf of stale bread. He went over severaloptions for escape, but discarded each one as useless. Finnaly, he came to the conclution that escape might not be possible. But Dorin had said they would escape, With help for an unexpected source. Haku thought to himself, sitting up. Was it possable that that source might be Jake. Folcon had seen the remorse in his eyes for thier plight. Would he betray his father and help them escape? Only time would tell. There were still two days to wait and see.

He smiled to himself, wondering how it must be like to live in a building that big and glamorous.

Isaac's smile faded a little as he turned his head to stare at the remains of the Lanarq Cathedral. This was an important building in Tiftok, so he was in deep thought about why Rivicius would destroy it.

Situations are even more tense than before. Isaac thought silently to himself. There are going to be big events coming, I just know it.

Queen Aqualina held her slender sword in one hand and wiped its blade using a cloth with the other. Once again, she was deep in thought. She noticed this seemed to be all she did lately. Two questions remained permanently in her mind: where was he, but more importantly where was it...

The door at the opposite side of the room opened. In came her two most trusted generals, Rowan and Spruce. They bowed and Spruce said, "Preparations for the attack on Catelinium are almost complete. Our soldiers will be ready to depart in a matter of hours."

Aqualina was pleasantly surprised. "That took about a day less than I had expected. It's nice to have some good news for a change."

"What are your orders regarding the assault, My Liege?" Rowan asked.

Aqualina was silent for a few moments, gazing into her glinting blade. Then she spoke, "Your battalion of Wyvern Lords shall strike from the skies to confuse the Catelinians while the ground troops enter each town. Behind them will stand our Snipers. You will be the main commander of our attacking forces Rowan. You will make your way through Catelinian territory, laying siege on every major town on your way to Tiftok. You, Spruce, shall remain in Amerial, but most of your Druids will go with Rowan. The rest is up to your commanding, Rowan. Is that clear?"

"Of course, My Queen." Rowan said. "By you leave," and he and Spruce bowed yet again and exited the room through the door from which they entered.

Once the door was closed Spruce smiled at Rowan. "Bad luck, leading the assault like that. Hopefully the Catelinians will not put up much of a fight and you will return unscathed."

Rowan knew exactly what Spruce meant by this and said, "You may be a coward, but I am not. If I lay my life in battle it would be a worthy end, for I would be doing it in the name of Rivicius."

Spruce chuckled and said, "Oh I am no coward Rowan, I assure you... May fortune smile upon you. We will meet again after the attack... Or not."

Rowan could do nothing but look, frowning, at Spruce's back as he walked down one of the many corridors of the castle.

Several days had passed since Jacob and Darkrai had first gone hunting. The village of Pelom had enough meat to hold on for a while and Jacob and Darkrai were resting in Silas' house. A noise came from outside. Silas stood up and looked out the window.
"There's a gathering in the center of town," he said. "Shall we go out and look?"
Jacob and Darkrai nodded and joined the crowd. In the center was a Beorc, but judging from his well-kept appearance, he was not from Corvia.
The man spoke: "I am a messenger from Amarial. Does a certain Silas Sengin live here?"
Heads turned to Silas, who stepped forward and spoke. "Yes. I am him."
The messenger walked to Silas, handed him a letter, and left without another word. The villagers crowded around Silas, curious. He tried to wave them away, saying, "If it's of any importance, I'll let you know." With difficulty, Silas, Darkrai, and Jacob managed to get back to the house and shut the door.
As soon as they were in, Darkrai said, "Uncle, nobody in a town like this ever receives mail. What's going on?"
Silas gritted his teeth and muttered, "Whatever this is, it can't be good. The envelope has the seal of Amarial on it. But what could that city want with me?"
He opened the envelope and read the letter inside. When he was done, he shook his head and said, "This isn't a letter for me." He turned to Darkrai and handed him the letter. "It's for you."
Darkrai took the letter and read:

                                                                                                                        Brother,

I hope this letter finds you well. How are my wife and son? I understand that after the attack on our town, they moved away. I was offered the luxury of sending a letter to my family, but I do not know where they are now living. That is why I am sending this letter to you, Silas.

I am imprisoned in the dungeons of Amarial. It will not stay this way for long, however. I am soon being executed, along with several sub-humans in the cell next to mine. I am unsure of how much longer I have to live, but it cannot be more than a few days.

Silas, if you still practice magic, please come and help your brother. If you do not, please send this message to my son, Darkrai. I understand he is now a young man. I'm sure he is very capable. Darkrai, to you I write this: Please come and rescue your father. Godspeed.
