I know, it's been known for a while, but only recently has there been a teaser.

Kratos was in the trailer...and yeah, the other characters are all returning, so i'm guessing they used the ending where Zelos wasnt killed. I'm wondering if Lloyds group are like Felix's group in GS1, because in the trailer, the new guy seems to be fighting Lloyd, and the new guy appears to be on the side of the Pope...I dunno, i'm crap at plot analysing.

Long ago, Sylvarant and Tethe'alla were united as a single world that drew strength from the Great Kharlan Tree. Divine intervention tore them apart, however, and the Tree withered and died. It was eventually left to a boy named Lloyd to restore the world to its true form. At his journey's end, a new Tree was planted to replace the old one and to hold the two worlds together. This was the story of the Journey of Regeneration.

Together once more, the world is now entering a new era. However, its people are still faced with many problems. After the lands became one, maps were rendered useless and the climate went through many vast changes: desert towns became frozen wastelands and lakes dried up into valleys. All of this stems from an overlooked factor in the unification of the worlds: the spirit of the old Kharlan Tree, Ratatosk, still exists somewhere, and its slumber has sent the world into chaos.

However, Ratatosk isn't the only problem: the people of the two worlds are starting to hate each other. The citizens of Tethe'alla look down upon the citizens of Sylvarant due to their inferior technology, and the citizens of Sylvarant fear the citizens of Tethe'alla because of their power. Two years have passed since the worlds were first merged, and the people of Sylvarant have created a vanguard with which to rise against the Church of Martel and the people of Tethe'alla.

One day, the Church of Martel went to war with the vanguard, and Sylvarant's city of Palmacosta was caught in the crossfire. Countless innocent people died and Palmacosta was consumed in a terrible fire. This event came to be known as the "Purge of Blood", a massacre led by Lloyd Irving of the Church of Martel

A Tales of game's also being developed for the 360, though to be honest I find most games in the franchise quite irritating when it comes to the storylines. Contrary to what the casual gamers say, an RPG isn't just about the plot so I still usually play them to enjoy the battle system and other gameplay mechanics.

I'm not generally a fan of RPG's, usually because of the countless sequels that come out, which makes storylines messed up, but short series like GS1 and 2 are fun, because theres only 1 storyline with a few twists. Tales was one of the few RPGs I played, because it didnt have hundreds of plot twists that messed everything up. I'm glad theres a second one, because once I completed the 1st, I wanted more.

Great trailer. The environments and in-game scenes do seem more refined and impressive, and I'm glad that the characters from the first game are back. Oh, and apparently, this game is supposed to allow you to recruit monsters into your party for battle (I think we see something of the sort around 2:07). I can't wait to see some battle footage, it's what made the first game so awesome for me.

That was the translated Japanese name. It would be a difficult name to market, especially to an English audience. The newer is simpler and flows nicer.

Strange, the Wikipedia page for Symphonia says that the developers placed Symphonia in the same universe and that it was a prequel as it was set thousand of years before Phantasia.

acctualy, I was thinking the other name Mithos had, he was Yaggdrassil(sp), which is the name of the tree in Phantasia, I think. It's been a while since I played it.

It might have been announced last August, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's when the development began (although that usually is the case). The game looks to borrow strongly from the visual style of the original ToS at any rate, which probably means the graphics engine is largely intact (though modified, of course).

But apart from that it all sounds good. I'm still hoping Lloyd turns out to only be a temporary antagonist. It seems strange for him to be a villain anyway considering his idealistic nature.

I love when an RPG story has old playable characters as the antagonists. Shame they always join you later in the game and turn out to be good. Just ONCE I would like to kill(or at least fight) the old playable characters!

Anyhow, I'm not really interested in this. I haven't played the first part, so there's no reason for me to look forward to the sequel. I'm sure it's a good game and I believe I would like it, but I play enough games already, so I don't need this too.

Besides, tell me, weren't the events of GS1 pointless in the end? my friend imported a japanese copy of this, he says the only problem is that the ToS characters that join your party dont level up so they end up being useless if you're overlevel. Perhaps most importantly, he says the monster system is really well done.

he also says the tie in to the Symphonia is completely unnecessary and devalues the gaming experience

Since I've yet to play Dawn of the New World, I can't give my opinion between the two. Gio, what made you like the sequel more? Laharl, Skidz, why the first?

Well like I said earlier it isn't like I enjoyed a great deal more than the other one, only slightly more, they are both great games, however I enjoyed the story little more, and I liked how they incorporated the monsters into battle. Even when I got someone in my party from the last game I wouldn't use them, because I would use my monsters. I also thought the little cut scenes you get in this game were funnier than in the last.

if you knew anything about the series you'd see this is little more than a badly designed spinoff. The only reason you think highly off it is because there are no other good Wii JRPGs to compare it to.

Umm right lets throw out reasons why I like a game just because you think you know. The reasons I liked it are the reasons I gave, and since I am not some hardcore gaming fanatic I don't intend to read to far into the details of every game I play. The games I enjoy are the ones I play, it is as simple as that.

Fair enough. I hold it in high regard too, though there were a few small issues for me.

I like the updated textures, free run, monster system, and finally everyone has their hyougis(mystic artes) in the english version. Only downside is the world map really but it at least serves as a good link between symphonia and phantasia, which ARE apart of the same storyline.

Got Dawn of the New World three days ago, I have ten hours logged in. So far, it's better than I was expecting. The battle system is more refined and easier to carry out, though battles seem easier. Tenebrae is god damn hilarious - the skits are so well done and hilarious - but the quest for Centurions' cores hasn't gripped me as the original Symphonia's story did. I'm hoping things pick up on that front.

So far, not bad. It's been especially nostalgic to go back and visit old areas and hear the remixed music from the first game.

well I would definitely have to agree with you. I enjoyed the skits a great deal. I am also glad that the characters actually talk during the skits as opposed to having to read them in them like in the first one.

Beat the game earlier today, got both endings. I don't think Dawn of the New World has quite the "magic" that the original Symphonia had, but it was fun, especially the battle system. The story really only picked up towards the end and was otherwise haphazard. The best writing in the game is definitely for the skits, I feel like playing through the game again just to see them all again.

And the ending was brilliant. Well, depends on which one you get (the "short one" or the "real", longer ending), but it did well to salvage the game and really tie it all together.


EDIT: And hell will be paid if there is not a new game with Kratos returning.
EDIT2: Ahh man, now I'm quite depressed. I'm going to miss the Symphonia cast, they were great.
