Max, is it possible to post the activity of the forums in a bar graph form? (like, no. of post per month/year since it's creation, which day people log on the most, what time, and the avg log on time).
I dunno if you can post them all, but I remember Nick or you posting some activity graph once.

Just interested. I really would like to see if the forums is in its least active era...

This is a GREAT idea. Never would have thought about it, but that is really a good idea. It sems very posible.

That sounds like mass spambots to me.

Eugine, some of your ideas there seem a little invasive to users.

I'll have to do some research, but all the data for such graphs/statistics is all in the database, the key is creating a way to extract it and visualize it. I'll try to look into this in the near future.

It's not that I'll immediately post it or anything. I'm first trying to see if I can, in fact, find out this information.

Whether it will (or should) be posted is something we'll consider afterwards. I personally don't see why not, but still, first things first, need to actually get to it.

I don't see anything wrong with seeing how active the forum is and when, or whatever. It's not like it could, or would, offend anyone. We all know that these forums aren't all that active, I mean, we make about 200 posts a day, which is decent, but I doubt anyone will even be surprised at the statistics.

Anyone who trys to make this into debate is just looking for drama and something to waste their time on. :(

Besides, I don't think GL has the privelages to do this. He'd need access to the hosting domain's control panel to check for activity, and even then, someone (likely Max) would probably have a write a script to sift through all the files and record data.

Basically, just let Max do it in his spare time. It's not like it's going to kill someone, but it's not all that important either.

Toasty, I just looked at the stats package on the server, and since forums isn't a subdomain, but just a folder, it can't give me specific enough information for just the forum's URLs. So anything would have to be a custom script to either parse the server logs (not directly possible), or to mine the IPB database for stats such as what Eugine initially described. That would be a bit of a project, but I could do it given some time and impetus. If someone with some PHP/MySQL skills is interested in doing this, get in touch with me and we can set something up.
