[Split Infinity]

It's funny how you suddenly become interested in the latest technology when for the first time in two years, you have money.

I have money. And this time I'm deciding to screw the rules save it instead of blowing it all on junk food. I doubt my parents are going to be getting me any sort of gaming presents this year, so I'm looking around at what's on offer. At the moment I'm most interested in getting myself either a Wii or a PS3. Preferably both, though I'll definitely be getting a Wii first while I wait for a price drop from Sony. I want to know what I should be aware of about the aforementioned consoles; what games I should get, features, technical issues, etc.

I'll stop reading posts at the mention of '360' or 'Halo'. :P

Brawl is fun if you can get some FC's, or have frineds that come over often. FE:RD is an awesome strategy RPG, Galaxy is fun for a while and then gets boring and repetitve (still worth buying though), MK Wii is supposed ot be good, but I haven't played it yet. Same goes for MP3:corruption. Disaster: Day of Crisis is supposed to be pretty good. There's others that I know I've forgotten.

PS3 has Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, GT5 *shutters*, Assassin's Creed, Motor Storm, and in the future, FFXIII, Killzone 2, and MGS4. Again, there;s some I've forgotten.

But seriously. The 360 has some good games too. Forza Motor Sports looks better than GT5 imo, and you can't deny the 360 if you like FPS's (which I assume you don't).

The only games on the 360 that I want are Halo 3, Bioshock, Gears of War, Orange Box, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed and GTA IV, all of which are on the PC and PS3 platforms. Except Halo, but buying a console for one game? I'll just play it at my friend's house. XD

When I saw only the topic title, I thought to myself "Hm, what should I recommend? The Wii or 360?" because really, those are two great(and different) consoles. But then I saw that you're not even considering the 360 for some silly reason, and you're actually planning on buying a PS3, for some equally silly reason. So I'm definitely recommending the Wii. Though that's not even what you asked...

Good Wii games: Mario Galaxy(which DOESN'T get repetitive), Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart, Fire Emblem: RD, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, RE Umbrella Chronicles, No More Heroes, Okami, Super Paper Mario, Endless Ocean(I absolutely love it), Zack & Wiki, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Guitar Hero 3...

I'm not saying that the 360 is a bad console; I'm just more interested in the innovation of the Wii...and also the fact that I've always wanted a Nintendo console.

As for the PS3, I'm going to see if it can build a decent library of games by about 2009 before I seriously consider investing in one. The machine can do some incredible things, but I want to make sure those $700 are well spent.

Well...Obviously the Wii.

I would probably get a PS3 on the grounds that you might end up with an HDTV one day and then you'll be thankful you have it. And the games are almost identical to X360s, save a few (albeit very good) exclusives.

I wouldnt really think about it too much though...save the money for a PS3 and save up for a car. I mean, how much do you really want one anyway?

Well, while I'd be leaning for the Wii, I'd say it actually depends on how much you save up. To really get the best out of the PS3, you have to be prepared to drop a whole more money, not just for the console but for the games themselves which are also more expensive.

The Wii gaming library, at the moment, has a more robust selection, but the PS3 is definitely catching up, with some very promising future titles. Of course, if you're starting to get into technology, then the PS3/high-tech media center goodness is something to consider.

Xbox 360 - Don't get.
Wii - Currently the best console out now. I do not see a bright future though.
PS3 - Not so robust library atm, but it's almost as good as the 360 despite its head start. If you do not plan on buying another console, PS3 is the way to go since Sony says it'll be revelant for about 10 years or more.

Besides, Gran Turismo has always been a kickass driving sim, so no gameplay issues there.

Don't bother with a PS3 until LittleBigPlanet comes out. By that time, there will be a few games to choose from.

Wii is honestly the best choice between the three in my opinion. 360 has too many shooters and not enough of anything else, and they're on the PC anyway which I know Split likes.

Well, my brother got a PS3 today. With a copy of GTA IV. He let me play it just now for a minutes. From my limited experience, the game is damn hard to play. It feels a lot slower than the other games in the series, and the controls have been changed a fair bit. The framerate is pretty inconsistent, but the graphics are better than any other game I've played, so I can't really complain. The excessive bloom makes my eyes feel fuzzy, though I guess I should expect that from a next-gen title...

This is good news anyway. It means that my brother will be paying for half the games, and when I do get the console I'll be able to play against him with my own controller. Unfortunately he's ended up with the SixAxis instead of the DualShock 3, but hey, that's the advantage of waiting. :]

The Framerate issue only appears on PS3, AFAIK. A couple of my PS3 friends have that problem too. I have yet to notice it.

PS3 has less pop-in than the 360. I guess that's why the framerate's jumpy. More things on screen costs FPS.

Wii no longer appeals to me. I just wouldn't be satisfied in the knowledge that I'm going to be stuck with it for the next four or five years, and I can imagine myself becoming bored of it after several weeks. And when I think about it, there aren't really any games that I genuinely 'want' for it, just interested in...

Nintendo handhelds I never get tired of, on the other hand, which is why I'm getting myself a DS. That I can just pick up a game and take it anywhere is a huge draw for me, not to mention the OMGPOKEMANZ factor. =D

Wait until Nintendo comes out with the SECOND revision of the DS. It's supposed to be smaller than the lite, and it won't have a GBA slot.

Though I can remember if that was a rumor or not.

Anyway, the Wii has some things in the works, so I wouldn't count it out quite yet. However, none of the titles I have have kept me interested for very long. FE:RD's done the best, though. I should pick it up again.

Brawl is only fun if you have people to play against, and even then, I still find Melee fun and playable. NFS: Pro Street was a dissapointment, I still haven't played LoZ:TP for more than a few minutes (though I played on my friends file a few times when he got stuck. He's farther than me), SMG wa really fun while it lasted, but I' bored of it now. Call of Duty (whatever it is) on the Wii is a joke. FE:RD is still fairly fun though. Heck, Wii Sports is still fun if there's someone to play it with.

It'll lose the GBA port and add SD, and you'll be able to download old GB/GBC games from the VC, among other things.

Oh, wow. A new model of DS which removes backwards compatibility, limits the capabilities of previous Slot 2-using games and has the ability to download games from my nonexistant Wii. I'm so waiting for that...

The World Ends With You is high on my list, not just because it comes from the Kingdom Hearts team but because it got such good reviews for a DS game. I'm also looking at Pearl and Dual Strike, maybe even Animal Crossing or Final Fantasy. Suggestions?

DEFINETLY get a Castlevania game. I'd recomend Dawn Of Sorrow. FF: CC was HORRIBLE. Don't get it.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn are probably the most in-depth, "hardcore" (there, I used the term) titles for Wii. Both also happen to be rather unappreciated titles too.

Yes. The Wii's selection of games is actually kind of horrible. It's only selling well because of casual gamers. I play my PS3 daily, and I only break my Wii out maybe once, or twice a week.

In my opinion, the 360 is the best of this generation so far. Wii simply doesn't have a large enough library of really good games. As for the PS3...it uses up tons of energy and the only exclusive it has is MGS4. 360 has more than the PS3 has to offer.

So, I say go for the 360. If you don't want to spend too much money, definitely get the Wii.

Dual Strike is a lot easier than AW2. The "Dual Strike" co-power is really.....over powered. It'll make or break a match in most cases, which kind of takes strategy out of the picture. I don't know about DoR though, but it looks good on paper.

Days of Ruin is a tough game, you can't just wing it like in Dual Strike. You have to have a plan.

CO powers are slightly nerfed too. It's a really like a game of chess now.
