Anyone see the Opening Ceremony? They're reshowing it tonight (for those of you in the States) on NBC at 7:30 EST.
What events are people looking forward to? Any athletes you're keeping your eye on?
WOOO, OLYMPICS!!!

But seriously Britain is gonna struggle to beat that. I mean the bit that we have for the hand over is gonna be bad enough. Boris Johnson receives the Games for 2012. Boris bloody Johnson. Still, very entertaining. I saw some of swimming as well. Phelps is damn fast under water.

Me111, I think it was pretty obvious China was sending a message of world domination in the end, but anyway, lets discuss the games and not politics.
My favourite events are of course the sprints (Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell powa), gymnastics (Shawn Johnson is awesome, and so is the Romanian team. Always brilliant) and swimming (Phelps is amazing).
And I'm looking foward to USA reclaiming the basketball gold medal.
And omg, the Chinese olympic team is huuuuge. They may well take home (well, they technically can't take it home this year lmao) the most medals this year.

yeah. I thought I read that somewhere, and at any rate I saw a rebroadcast of it, not the ceremony live.
Phelps set a world record in the 400m Men's swimming event. Pretty insane, he's expected to be in contention for eight gold medals.

In his defense, I doubt he did it to spite them. Liberal bias strikes again.
Anyway, I can't believe how close the men's 4x100m relay was. USA won by .06 seconds. Holy shiznits.
And it was really satisfying after the French bragged about beating the snot out of us.

The 4x100 swimming freestyle was awesome, if not the best event of the olympics so far. It was so tense.
Anyway, today we get to see Shawn Johnson. I love her =)
I hope USA kicks China's behind, although China may win since USA has some injuries. USA is still the team to beat though.
#45

But wow, the synchronized swimming was awesome. The Chinese are by far the superior team in this event. Most of the time in replays, it appears as if one person was synchronized swimming.
And wow, Phelps is amazing. I have to say this everytime. Best swimmer ever!

Anyway, the guy who ran the last leg of the relay deserves a great round of applause. He did excellent.
Thankfully, soon the American dominated track events are about to start. Let us see if they will pass the Chinese in gold medal count.
And I can't wait for Jamaica to pwn in the sprints =)
I hope Usain Bolt trained hard for the sprints. Don't get injured dude! Hopefully Jamaica is gonna get the gold and silver for 100m sprint male and female.
More importantly, I'm looking foward to see Shawn Johnson claim her first olympic gold. Her team mates kept USA back in the last event imo. If you watch the scoring, I think (considering I'm no expert and analyzing these things) she was the best overall, and better than China's best.
Best olympics ever. I'm constantly watching it!
I'm surprised at how well the Chinese is pulling this off. Oh...
http://news.bbc.co.u...fic/7556058.stm ... hmm...
Randomly: The Cuban team is amazing in boxing. Germany pwned in fencing AND Equestrian (horseback riding).
Oh, how can I go a post without saying... Michael Phelps pwn! Best olympian ever! Although yes, he was naturally born with the body to swim, he shows NOTHING in this world comes without hard work. He is inspiration for anyone who wants to succeed. His training program was by far the hardest ever. He trains for about 8hrs everyday! Burns about 12000 calorie per day! INSANE!
All fired up for this olympics baby!
EDIT:
Now there are reports than the women gymnastics team for China (who won the gold medal yesterday) are underaged. Well, three of the six members are atleast. I really hope that is not the case, since that is very disagraceful for the Chinese to do that.
Other people are saying the American media is only reporting on this because the favoured US won silver, therefore they are trying to find a reason to give the gold to the US. Oh the controvery!

did you guys already mention about how the girl who sang that song at opening ceremonies wasn't the actual singer, the actual singer got replaced because she wasn't pretty enough, so they go some pretty girl to mouth along to her song. Awesome.
How many medals does Canada have? Oh yeah, none.
Who was the only country to not win a single gold when hosting the summer olympics in their own country? Oh yeah, Canada.
Canada: For someone to win, someone has to lose. Making others feel better in the olympics since the beginning of time :(

To be fair, the issue was brought up even before the Olympic games started, and yes, some of those girls do look extraordinarily young. But, I don't put it past the American media to do that. I mean seriously, have you heard the commentators during gymnastics? When a gymnast from another nation makes a mistake, they put it on replay over and over and break down every element.

Low, very low. And the girl who provided the voice was interviewed as saying that it was an "honour" to have her voice used nonetheless, but we all know she wants to (and deserves to!) have been in that Opening Ceremony.

I know that but there's a far greater difference in practising for an Olympic event when you know it's gonna occur in the immediate future when you're 14 as opposed to a number of years away when you're an adult.
Besides, do you think it's fair to saddle a kid with the expectation of an entire country?

Why, when most of their athletes are drugged to improve their performance?
Oh, and explain to me why they don't want to show the tape of the finishing seconds of the swimming competition between Phelps and Cavic to the public? Not to mention that in order for Phelps to participate in so many events in the past days, yet alone WIN them all, he had to be drugged into oblivion. Now watch as he disappears from all sporting events for the next couple of months after the Olympics in order to regain his strength from being drugged to the extent he is.

Now that's a little much. The video AND a frame by frame breakdown have been released to the public. Further, all Olympians have to go for drug testing between each event. That means Phelps has been tested for doping at least 8 times during the course of the Olympics.

Because all olympic athletes are thouroughly drug screened to ensure that they haven't been taking steroids.
It's nearly impossible (unless you payed off the tox screeners) to get into the olympics as an athlete.

I still think it's too close to see a difference. Each time I see I think the other one wins. Honestly, I think Phelp's name/status and him being an American made the decision. There's no way you can be 100% sure who really won.
Though that doesn't take away that grabbing the other 7 gold medals isn't magnificent.
