Okay my Criminal law teacher has an evil tool that actually makes people work (usually to stop others from talking too much or messing around).
The Mosquito produces a really high pitch sound that only people under the age of 18 can hear, and my god its awful, I remember it been on the news where businesses put the 'mosquito' on their buildings and it prevents Teenagers from hanging around on their property because if customers see a group of teenagers they automatically think that the teenagers are up to no good.
but our teacher uses it to shut people up in our class, but I have never seen this used by any businesses, well not in my area anyways.

    http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/

I found this link (I haven't tried this, i found this on yahoo answers) you can also search the 'mosquito' on youtube.

Overall i thought this would be interesting to post, so discuss.

I can hear everything up to 18KHz...

        That makes me 24. D:

          Not really.

Your hearing degrades ove time. The audible spectrum of sounds that you can hear slowly decreases over time.

So theoretically, a person that's say, 30 years old wouldn't hear a sound that's in the 15khz range. The list of ages and pitches on that page might be off though.

Band has degraded my hearing quite a bit. I can only barely make out 19Khz. D:

I could only barely feel the pressure of the 20Khz pitch after I raised my volume up to max.

....now my ears kinda hurt. D:

Is this technology even legal? It might come across as a public nuisance. You might as well be playing metal at full volume in your house to keep out burglars. ;)

Yeah its legal, it was on the news a couple of years ago saying that teenagers really do hate the sounds, so therefore 'Mosquito' is known to be successful (or so I've heard) but it wouldn't surprise me if someone takes this to the courts

If I'm not mistaken, hearing is most acute in a human at 7-10 years.

And this is cruel and unusual. Effective I imagine, but must be one hell of sound.

Reminds me of those microwave-fitted jeeps that riot squads are planning to use, the ones that make metal objects heat up and force people to either drop them or run away. Apparently it can burn people wearing contact lenses as well.

I read about the idea in a Popular Mechanics magazine back in 8th grade. It's meant to heat up the first millimeter of skin and make people run off. Though obviously, it can heat up metal as well, so that's another bonus I guess.

I'm 20 and can barely hear the 21khz one.

I think it's ridiculous. Young people are human too, they have rights, you can't just install teenage repellent like you would for animals, lol.

this is preemptive defense against teenages, allowed simply because everyone loves to believe all teenagers are destructive rebels. I think that's pretty offensive.

People use similar devices to prevent dogs from ruining their lawns. People aren't forced to listen to it, so it's not cruel in any way. I don't see how this is wrong.
And most teenagers are destructive. In California, at least.

I heard the third last one fine and the second last was a strain, it's all crap though. A kid in my class had this about two years ago and we played it, the teacher (I'd say late 30's) was able to hear it fine.
