Yes, that is correct. GSW is on the backburner indefinitely, and probably won't happen unless another game in the real series is announced. There's just not a large enough audience to warrant the work required, and I have alot of other projects that are better uses of my time right now. If the situation changes, these forums will be the first to know.

Does that mean this is gonna happen??? I was a couple years too late for the original run... itd be great to join it now.

I was wondering who the first person to bring it up would be...

Perhaps to Max's dismay, yes that means the game should become a higher priority.

I was wondering the same thing...

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to tell you. I'd still like to see it happen, but I have absolutely no idea when I would have enough time to put it together. Atrius and I were going to work on it together, but as you may know, he has left for his own real-life adventures, and I'm not sure when he will be returning.

If I had another developer or two, and I could more or less manage and assist with infrastructure, then I'd definitely be willing to give it a shot in the not-too-distant future. However, if it's just going to be me, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

It`s all good, I just thought it funny that you said that and then 4 days later GS3 gets announced. SOMEBODY HELP HIM!

Remind me what you're coding it in again? I've been meaning to learn a coding language for a while now, and in two days I'll be free pretty much 24/7 for three months. Unless stuff that I hope isn't going to happen happens.

GSW was originally written in Flash (Actionscript), with Java on the server. While I'd likely keep Java on the server side, perhaps with some Python sprinkled in, I might consider writing the client in something other than Flash if a developer wants to help but prefers another language.

Alot has changed in the Flash world since we first wrote GSW, and I don't think it's at all worth bringing any of that old (Actionscript 2) code along for future development.

Time to get working on that 3D engine Max. GBA sprites just aren't good enough now that we have GS3 in glorious polygons!

I spent some time playing some 2D mmorpgs online in the past (a couple years ago now) but I'm pretty sure I still have the source code for mirage, which is what PlayerWorlds and Jerrath are based upon, It's very easy to use and even easier to make an entire world. At the moment, I'm currently working on my music and artwork career but I can turn this into a side project if people are still interested in getting GSW off the ground... I remember it's early days, hehe. I'd be gld to offer my assistance if you want it.The whole thing would be in C++, graphics engine would be 2D but it's easy to make it look 3D. I'll look into this project and get back to ya'll with some more info. It shouldn't be too hard to get this started, then with the server up the game (or world) can be created by mappers, or users given special privelidges to map out levels, worlds, mini games etc. mapping is an easy job and with training anyone can do it.I believe this is the edge you're looking for, something that'll keep you entertainded and connected at the same time.
