    It was three years ago.

    Legends in our time are rare. The people who inspire and rally the world around them often seem to be the stuff of myths, the stories our grandfathers tell us as they rock us to bed.

    Yet you were one. You were our hero.

    It was three years ago. The pulsating thrill of the world’s grandest competition was felt. The excitement, the adrenaline, the desire to reach the top – billions around the world could see it in your eyes.

    The time came. You made history once more. The shots, the passing, the continued rhythmic beat on the pitch were rising towards a euphoric peak, where you would finally reach the title you deserved.

    But then it happened.

    I saw the fury in your eyes. Lashing out, raging. You could not contain it – you had already done it before you realized quite what you had done.

    The flashing red. It was hard to comprehend, hard to take in, but the inevitable understanding of it sunk in.

    I will always remember the pain in your eyes. It was three years ago when the glory you deserved was snatched from you, the subdued cry of a fallen hero.

    Every year since, I have remembered. It has been three years, and I will say what I feel in my heart on this fateful anniversary, now and forever more.

                Grrr, this brings back bad memories. Zidane was probably my favorite player, so I ****ing hated Materazzi after that incident.

                      Man I wish I'd seen this sooner.
                      And as if the World Cup was three years ago. Only 1 more year until England scrape into the quarter finals before getting knocked out again!

                        The French team is horrible now, but then again for the WC next year, I don't see any real favourites.
