Comments? I'd be for it if my work introduced it, save me a bundle on travel expenses alone.

My dad usually works an extra hour for the first four days of the week so he can get off early on friday.

I'd sure like to see this implemented though. Especially in the school system. :P

If it was though, there would be less vacation (probably no Summer vacation).

As much as I'd like to have a 3-day weekend on a regular basis, coming back to 4 days worth of work on Monday does not bode well with me. (I do accounting work)

            Dang. Didn't think about that....

I'd rather have a longer vacation, now that I think about it.

Maybe they'd just extend school by an hour to compensate?

If you mean make school start an hour and a half earlier, then yeah, probably. I'm sure the attendance rate would drop though.

From an economic/environmental standpoint, shifting to a 4-day weekend has considerable advantages. I wasn't too hot on the idea at first, but thinking about it more, it really has benefits whose effects are really underestimated.

Though, I don't think this should apply to school. A 3-day weekend would be practically a mini-vacation between classes. Although, given that most of us I presume went to standard 5 school days each week, perhaps it has to be tried to be understood.

I went to a high school where they had 8 periods of classes a day opposed to the standard 6 and my days weren't that much longer then most schools. I think the normal school day is about 6-6.5 hours, even if you increases that by 1 hour it wouldn't reach what is a full working day so I don't think it's so harsh on the students. Except maybe Primary school kids.

Periods as in lessons, so say I had 2 English periods, a maths period, 3 periods of PE, 1 of science and 2 of art in a day, not 8 different subjects, just classes. Clear things up?

That's still intense. We have 4 subjects and 4 classes. Switching thorughout the day must be annoying instead of start, quick break, second subject, lunch, third subject, quick break, fourth subject, go home.

Our student body got so big that they had to put in two seperate lunches at my school.

Still 4 periods a day, but some have lunch after 2nd period, and others have it after 3rd. Depending on what classroom number your third period is in.

Personally, I hate the 4 periods a day system. An hour and a half per period is overkill. 6 periods/subjects a day at an hour a period would be way better.

Then again, that could also mean more homework.

My high school had 10 periods, 8am-3:20pm everyday. We had letters for different schedules (i.e. A for gym/science cycle 1, B for gym/science cycle 2, C for homeroom), and if we ended school earlier, then every period would be shrunk by a few minutes.

We always had 10 periods, consistently.

At my school there are six blocks in total, with three classes lasting a little under 2 hours each day.

Unless you took the special 0 Block Schedule, in which you start school about an hour earlier, but don't have either a Block 3 or 6, and get your 0 Block Class every school day.

My Victorian school had the 8 periods a day where each period was about 35-40 minutes and school went from 8.20 to if I remember properly 3.40 and my NSW school had 6 50 minute periods which went from 8.40 to 3.20 I think.

It's not like you're at school less, between the switching of classes and the teacher starting its like each period is so short. Additionally, the diversity makes it less boring.

                                                        He makes a good point.

I'd rather have more periods as long as the teachers acknowledge that they need to give out less homework since you'll effectively be taking more classes at the same time.

For my school, we have 4 periods a day, and 8 classes total throughout the year. Some classes are year long though (like band or intermediate/advanced Algebra), so some people end up taking fewer classes. Still get the same number of credits though.

However, I still wish we had 6 periods a day at my school instead.
