Terrible, terrible choice. I would have much preferred Tsvangirai from Zimbabwe or Aung San Suu Kyi from Burma.

It is especially ironic given that Obama is on the verge of doubling US troops in Afghanistan, has maintained the occupation of Iraq, is launching bombing campaigns into Pakistan with thousands of civilians being killed, and the list goes on.

          Very premature and stupid decision.

As the famous quote goes, all political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger won the Peace prize in 1973.

Speculation says that the committee only gave him the prize to make him feel guilty, and reconsider sending more troops into Afghanistan.

Your speculation is dead on, I say. The Nobel Peace Prize has not always been given in honor of accomplishment, but to shape behavior as well. It'll be worth watching to see how much influence it will have.

I realize you meant it more as a joke than anything, but the odd thing about Gaddafi's speech was, he actually made some fairly decent points. Much of it can only be described as wacky, but he also spoke some very real truths that few leaders would have the guts to say.

Anyways, yes Obama winning the nobel prize for peace seems more like a random publicity stunt than a serious award.
