Swine flu... It sucks, does it not?

Well, the point of this thread is to let you guys know that I'm an asthmatic, which in turn means that if I get swine flu, which is not out of the question considering my life style, I'm as dead as a dodo.

So yeah, if I suddenly disappear altogether from the forums, just know that I've gone to a better place.

    Hooray!

Well the respiratory problems from pig flu are deadly, ashthma would tip you over the edge. This is assuming that on the off chance you get the bovine feva that you actually get some respiratory symptoms.

Swine flue has been determined to be no more lethal than regular flu, basically because the seasonal flu has prepared our immune systems for it.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know that swine flu ain't nothing to worry about. I was just saying. Besides, it sort of is a bit more deadly. More people have died this year from swine flu than seasonal flu. More young people have died from it too, whereas - as far as I know - seasonal flu is more likely to affect older people.

Don't you get a swine flu shot then?

Here in the Netherlands, all the 65+ people, the 8- people and the people with heart and/or breathing difficulties get a flu shot. My little sister an brother both have astma, so they just good the shot.

And if you want to, you can still get a shot if you've got a good enough reason. I could get one because I enter hospitals regularly because that's where a lot of my classes with university are.

Although swine flu is indeed less dangerous than regular flu, that is not the case for asthmatics. Swine flu targets the lungs and respiratory organs, and as soon as 24 hours after contracting the illness, an asthmatic can suffer huge problems. No amount of inhalers can help with that shit.

As for getting the swine flu shot, I'm not sure I should. Well, I definitely won't be able to until at least January because, y'know, I live in Serbia, but even if I could maybe I wouldn't because it's got some pretty scary side effects, such as paralysis. And although that's extremely unlikely to happen, I think I would rather have a go with swine flu.

Well yeah, the pandremix version of the flu shot could give you guillian barré, but that's a less than 1/10.000 chance. Plus, guillian barré occurs as an auto-imune reaction to the infection caused by the shot. You'll have the same risk of getting guillian barré if you get the regular swine flu. But I suppose there is a chance you don't contract the swine flu at all. O, and the guillian barré version of paralysis is treatable.

But the focetria version is pretty much safe unless your allergic to it. You could have an anaphalactic shock in that case, but at least there's medical personel there when you get shock, right?

Yeah, well... As I said, even if I wanted to I wouldn't be able to get the shot until at least January.
