To what extent do you use walkthroughs and guides?
Well, for me it depends on the game.
For example, Dragon Age: Origins.
I did not use a walkthrough, but I did read this guide to help me build my characters

I also don't mind getting spoilers from people (Nos) that I talk to about games before I play them.

And to some extent, I write the occasional guide myself lol.

Hence, a simple peek at the walkthrough helps here.
With this exception, I only use walkthroughs in the most dire and difficult of circumstances.

Recently I did this for Dragon Age and Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls in particular, the worst part about that game is how badly the game mechanics are explained. That game is pretty much all about making the most of your equipment to defend yourself, and it's actually more deep than you'd initially expect. The game doesn't explain very well about how to upgrade your equipment to suit the character build you're trying to go for. Making a dexterity fighter? Use slashing weapons that have a Sharp upgrade branch. Going for a strength build? Get hammers or axes and use Crushing. I figured that out after using a guide.

Otherwise unless I'm stuck on a puzzle or something I don't.

In those two FE games all the characters you stick with end up OP. Just saying. But god damn I miss playing Radiant Dawn.. even if it's one of the only two Wii games I ever played.

I prefer to play new games with an open mind, before I get serious over sidequests and crap. I don't play adventure games, so I don't usually scout solutions unless my teeth are starting to grind, or I get the feeling it's something blatantly unfair.
