j/k
Multiplayer creative mode is where it's at.
Take this for example. I challenge any of you to get all the way through that maze. It's unbelievably long and hard, and unless you know how to properly utilize respawn points, you'll never make it to the end.
I spent two days on it and got through it, though. But not two days straight. Good lord that would be ridiculous.
Also, Level 2 is easier, but it looks a whole lot prettier.

I'm actually incredibly impressed at how quickly a server can become populated and somewhat well known. For a while, I routinely couldn't access my server because it had too many people on it. Only took one weekend to get noticed, griefed, overloaded, repaired, and griefed again.
Though my builds received relatively little damage, so it's all good.

I'd try to buy it with my business's paypal account, but I'm afraid of the same thing happening, and I really don't want to risk losing access to that for any extended period of time.
I'll buy it as soon as I get the chance to do so though. Alpha looks freaking badass.
Also, here's some of what I had on my old map. Still working on transferring what's left to an older, un-raped version of the map I had.
enjoy.
(note that the spawn point is inside of a jail, so you'll need to be an admin on a server to get out, unless clipping in WoM works, which I don't think it does on normal servers)

And by not legal I mean not official. Not "illegal". It's not big enough to warrant a license, and though I could use my mom's business license, I'd rather not pay the government any of my hard earned cash, because I don't trust my government to spend

I also buy parts to repair computers through that account. Just bought a $100 part that I could've probably made myself for chump change, though I don't want to risk reliability issues, and it's not my money anyway. I'm getting paid $200 for parts and labor on that deal. Still waiting on the part though.

SMP server is up and running. Currently though, you can only look around if you're not in the user list. If you try to break or place a block without an privelages, something breaks and crashes your client. Not sure why.
Though it's not like I care, because I don't want random people breaking stuff anyways. :D

WD has an island abode, a lighthouse, and a mine, and I myself have a base and a mine (base is right below the floating garden). Not exactly sure what Split's been up to, though he's worked on a few projects.
I'm also working on another project on the outskirts of the server.
We don't have very many projects yet, and they're not all finished, but most are quite large.
You're free to look around as a guest, though I'd need to add you to the users list if you wanted to build or use the warp function.

Also, we're using hMod so the server isn't vanilla. Thus, the /op command is obsolete.
I've added Lemontime and Caael to the users list, so you guys can do stuff. /kit itools and /warp should be available to you now (as well as the ability to destroy and create, though /tp /item and some others are still restricted. Need mod privileges and above for those. :P
Anyway, I added you anyway Caael, so that way you can stop buy and do stuff whenever you have free time.
Just as a heads up, WD, Split, and I (and a couple of my irl friends) are the only admins, and it's going to stay like that until further notice (if the server gets really popular, and we need more, things may change). However, mod positions are open. Though we won't be modding anyone yet as there's not much of a need. We already have 5 admins because I wanted that aspect to be fairly well set in stone, so though it may seem overkill for the current traffic, I have good reasons for it. :O
So that's that then. Have fun and bring more people in! :D

Though since mobs are turned off, we don't have to worry about that anyway. I might turn them on at a later date though.
Just keep in mind that most current structures are wip.
Though I've devised an ingenious design for three and four way intersections on the tracks, which takes advantage of the MM plugin. I might throw together a sketch in paint today and put it up. It's on graph paper atm.

Also, I forgot to restart the server after adding you and lemon to the users list, so I did that just now. There's a way I can do it without needing to restart, but I have to login myself, and it's just a pain to do it that way.

Reason being that Brad and I already had a website called Codeprogrammers.net (his idea, not mine), and while it served as a place to publish tech tutorials and such, it wasn't getting much use (and 0 traffic other than us). So we decided to put it to good use.

Toasty, I've started work on an underwater rail network. I say 'started', I've made the above ground bit (the giant obsidian structure in the water) that leads underwater into a glass 'box' which will be the hub for the underwater rail network. People are free to expand the network if they wish, just dont flood the hub.

Though I do believe I gave VIP's the /item command last night. It's just slightly restricted. Most of the blocks that are off-limits are one's you'll never use anyway.
I want to restrict the /setwarp command to Admins, and maybe later extend it to mods (which we don't have any of atm).
VIP's have /tp (don't abuse plox), /warp, and the following kits: dtools, ifight, builder, and pheal. Builder (which you always had :P) gives you 64 stone, cobblestone, dirt, and wood. Pheal gives three pork. You don't have the magic carpet or /jumpto commands though.

For example, you can get 2 wooden doors by typing /item wooddoor 2
Also, /listwarps
EDIT: Just finished making a pyramid. Should be easy to find, it's huge and you can see it from a certain landmark. If you can survive what's inside it, you'll get some sweet loot for if you don't have access to console commands. ;D

Posted 13 January 2011 - 12:57 PM
I might just restart it vanilla (without hmod) for the time being though. However, we won't have any plugins (world edit, magic carpet, etc.) and we won't have protection from griefing, so the chances of me doing this are slim. I could go back and set up the server as being private, but then you'd all need VPN keys to access it (which only WD, Split, Brad, Ben, and I have).
Though that last option would be better than nothing I suppose.
tl;dr We need to wait for either Bukkit or hMod to release an update before the server will work again.

Anyway, about the mobs. I won't be turning them on for some time. I'm sure I will eventually, but I don't want to bother with it until Bukkit hits release and we have a stable server.
Also, I'd prefer people not use dynamite on the server. Not that it's banned, I'd just prefer it not be used. I can probably give you some the next time you're on. Maybe I'll even put some in the storage depot....

In other news, I've been spending lots of good quality time in the #Bukkit irc channel. Seems like Nijikokun has made a permissions plugin, so I might just move the server over to bukkit ahead of schedule.
The official permissions support will likely be similar, so I feel fine using his plugin for permissions.
World Edit is also getting better by the day. :D
[EDIT] Oh yeah, I coded a couple of scripts for installing bukkit on Linux and Mac OS X. I didn't bother with Windows because you basically can't do that in windows. I'd have to write it in C++, and I haven't gotten around to that yet. :O

As an end user, you shouldn't see much of a change. All the major plugins we use on our server are already in the process of being ported, and they still function the same (from what I can tell).
The only problem is that the Bukkit devs want Mojang to be able to incorporate their code (and they've already discussed it with Mojang), while still keeping bukkit open source, and allowing plugin devs to make closed source plugins if they wish. Because of this, they need to be really careful about what license they use to protect their code. Lest it make Bukkit unuseable by one group or another.
So they're taking their time on the licensing, and are discussing the matter with Mojang and the bukkit community.
But because they don't have a license set in stone, they can't officially release a preview build. Though the latest builds are available through their repository.
tl;dr Not much will change from your perspective. A lot will change from mine.

Though I plan on moving over to bukkit soon, so hopefully things will be less volatile.
[EDIT] Bukkit is working fairly well for me. I plan on moving the server over to it tomorrow (i.e. today. *yawn*). look at codepro for the details.
Also, if you've joined the codepro forums, send me a message. A number of new users have made accounts, but none of them looks familiar. I have a feeling they're bots, but I want to be sure. Obviously, if you've posted before, don't worry about it.
[EDIT 2]
I lied. Server has migrated to bukkit, and all the permissions are done. I may modify them later though. Depends on what commands users need.
Also, no more kits until I decide on a suitable plugin. Looking at two options atm. Users should still be able to get items with the /item command, however. You just have to use ID's for the moment iirc.
It'll get better, I swear!
(though it's not like there was much of a choice over switching to bukkit. Besides, it's slick, efficient, and highly supported)

I've got a warp plugin installed, but it's being....special. I'm looking for alternatives. I'm also still looking for a kit plugin.
Permissions are working fine for the most part (the warp plugin doesn't play nice with them, but that's about it), but the plugin is set to be deprecated soon as permissions are integrated into Bukkit.

Caael, survivor server will be coming as soon as we get enough RAM. I'm working on updating plugins for codecraft, and I'll be rolling those updates out this week. One of them is MultiVerse, for multi-world support. But again, we really really really need RAM.
Lemon, what host are you using, and what's in your package?

Also @ Toasty: We're using servercraft.co for now, they have a price you can't really argue with. If things grow to the point that we need something bigger we'll definitely consider other hosts ad they don't have that much room to improve. We're currently on the 2gb plan and it seems to be enough for us at the moment. Plugins are simple to install and customer service is pretty fast so I'm happy with it for now at least.

Oh yeah, there's also going to be a zombie tag mode, and possibly a fortress game as well, where you're given time to build a compound and place your self destruct button, and then time to attack your opponent to set off their self destruct mechanism.
A later future update will likely bring RPG-style gaming support, as well as an economy.
All thanks to Will's $100 donation. :D
