Building a Hero

I start with the legs. All I do is trim the flash off and blu-tac it to the base.

Next, I cut off the tabard part of the torso, careful to leave the belt intact.
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9472/p5240215.jpg
I then glue the front half of the torso to a spare back half.
Now, onto the backpack.
I removed to blood-drop on the halo, but forgot to take a before-picture.

Sadly, that purity seal there goes against the motion I had in mind, so it has to go.
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1075/p5240218.jpg
I cut off the lower half of a spare back pack, and do the same for this one.
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/4121/p5240228.jpg
Its a bit messy, and the backpack is a little shorter than a normal one now, but I don't think anyone will notice. If it screws with the paint I can cover up my mistakes with more purity seals.

Here's the sword arm. I have to cut the shoulder so it will be held at the angle I want.

Here's the torso blu-tacked to the legs.

Now I roll up some greystuff...
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/8212/p5240235.jpg
...and spread it onto the model's legs. Once this dries, it will provide me with a solid surface to sculpt on.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7015/p5240241.jpg
That's all for now. I have to wait for that greystuff to dry before I dare do anything else.

This is neat! Looks promising already. What kind of 'hero' are you putting together?

Thank you! This guy is going to be the replacement for my current Space Marine Captain model. I'm hoping to get a closer to fantasized model by using tailor-ordered plastic bits.
These are all pictures from yesterday. I'm working on the base right now. Paint will soon follow.
I made my second attempt at sculpting and it didn't turn out so bad after all. Still needs to be cleaned up, as you can see.

The lower half of the tabard is going on the back, since it looks so nice there after a test-fit.

Warhammer isn't really my thing, but it is interesting to see you create your own models. Keep postan.

Good stuff. It takes a lot of careful skill to put it together that way, the effort clearly shows.
I was wondering earlier if those were pre-made plastic parts, but what kind of material are you using to sculpt with? Some sort of clay, glue maybe?

The stuff I use is called Kneadatite, a two part apoxie putty with the constancy of half-dried chewing gum. What you've been seeing me use is pretty much the same thing except grey and water-soluble.
The parts are premade, but the model/s come unassembled.

I've had a lot of time to myself, so the model is nearly done. These pictures are from yesterday.
The base is almost done.

Here's the actual model from yesterday. Sorry the paint looks so poor right now; this is just the first layer though. It all looks much nicer now.

So how did the final result end up after that extra layer of paint?

There's still a lot of cleaning up to do, as well as highlighting and such, so I'm not really done.

Its looking good so far. I think the apoxie your using to model adds a nice layer of depth to the model.
