1UP.com has up a new interview this morning with the Takahashi brothers, the co-creators of the Golden Sun series.
No groundbreaking news here, although they do state that this is a standalone title (won't be spread across two releases like the first two games) and that they regret it taking so long to develop. They also imply that the main characters will have cameos but will not be primary story characters, which may mean the popular Isaac-as-fourth-party-member theory may be dispelled.
Keep checking back for the latest Golden Sun news.
Update: This 1UP article is a translation of the interview, which was actually in the latest issue of Famitsu. You can see the raw scans here.

Possibly the last game of the series, then?

Either that or a massive cliffhanger. Possibly will depend on sales? :)
Anyways, took me a while to notice this thread apparently. This was a nice read, and I'm actually happy to see the implication that the main characters of the previous GS games won't be primary characters. As much of a hard-on I have for Isaac and rest of the original cast, I think that the venture into what looks like something very new makes me excited.

Exactly. The worst thing creators of a fictional universe can do is overuse their characters. I want to learn new things about new characters in a new game, not stick with the same old characters.
