The guy who reviewed DD on IGN hasn't played through the other games (I listen to the podcast he's on).
I feel like Dark Dawn is going to be loved only by veterans of the series.

I am not fond of the IGN review... it basically faults the game for something it doesn't try to hide - that it's the continuation of an old RPG series that is geared towards fans of the original games. Dark Dawn is to be most appreciated by veterans of the series. The fact that it's "unoriginal" is pointless - people are buying it BECAUSE it carries on the legacy, style, and story of the previous games.

Dark Dawn becomes an awesome experience. Interesting, tactical battles, challenging and inventive puzzles, a decent plot -- it's all there

See, Dark Dawn's interface is actually pretty ingenious

a pretty fantastic fantasy role-playing game awaits
Actual GamePro Review score: 3.5/5, because of:
Quote
Opening nine or so hours move at an absurdly slow pace; exposition-packed conversations; a general lack of difficulty
So basically, GamePro says that it's a fantastic RPG game that plays true to its predecessors, which has a slow beginning (sounds like Golden Sun), engaging battles and summons (Golden Sun element), and a complex plot with a massive world to explore (did I mention it's just what Golden Sun is known for?) And yet, Dark Dawn is criticized just for having those same qualities the series is known for.

And yet the previous two games received rave reviews. I guess the tastes of mainstream game reviewers have just changed.
