I've been playing Pocket Monsters Ruby Version for a loooooooooong while, now, and it seems that I've stumbled upon a lv. 22 Sandshrew that shines. Now I've got a question ... would you say that the shine would go away if I evolved it into a Sandslash?
And what does this shine do for you? Is it the infamous Pokérus virus? Or is it a lame premier special effect?

I was following the Nintendo Player's Guide on type advantages that work well against the Elite Four and Champion (Steven), but once I hit Phoebe (sp?), only my Glalie knew Crunch, and it didn't really satisfy the death of her first Ghost Pokémon ...
I still need them to get up to 45, but they all are 40+, so I thought it was a good start at first. But then I looked at their levels, and bit my lip about it. Gah, I just hope I don't end up like the very first time I took them on in an earlier game ...

Blaziken lv. 100
Swellow lv. 80 (recommended)
Mightyena lv. 85 (recommended)
Kadabra lv. 85 (recommended)
Gyarados lv. 80
Aggron lv. lv. 69-70
Sydney's easy; just use a fighting type (Machoke or Haryama; about lv. 50) and you' ll wipe the floor with 'em (I use Swellow, though, because Sydney uses some grass types).
I recommend using Mightyena for Phoebe, because by level 55 or 57, it knows Crunch and Thief (great dark moves).
Glacia's annoying, but you can crush her using your fighting type pokemon again, or you could use a fire type (Blaziken=perfect choice, because it's fire and fighting). Have them about lv. 60.
Drake's tough, too. Gyarados is an exellent choice, because it learns dragon type moves (which dragon pokemon are, in turn, vulnerable to), but isn't a dragon itself, so dragon type attacks can't severly damage it back (be about lv. 65 for him).
Steve's pretty easy if you have dependable fire and water pokemon, because all of his pokemon are vulnerable to either (except his Cradily; which is vulnerable only to fighting types).
This probably isn't anything new to you, but I find it the most succesful way to defeat the pokemon league.

Okay...
*draws breath*
To keep this as short as possible, each Pokemon has a certain set of DV's (also known as IV's), and I don't know what that stands for. BUT, it determines the stats of your Pokemon, and the highest possible number for each one (HP, (Special) Attack, Speed, etc.)
Shiny Pokemon DO NOT have MAXED OUT DV's, but, they have above average DV's, guaranteed. So, Shiny Pokemon may not have the greatest stats possible for that specific Pokemon, but you can be sure that it's at least quite decent.

I hope that I helped, here are my pokemon (again) but with their moves (all male):
Blaziken (Inferno) lv. 100
Blaze Kick
Mirror Move
Slash
Sky Uppercut
Swellow (Glide) lv. 80
Fly
Endeavor
Aerial Ace
Agility
Mightyena (Nightmare) lv. 85
Take Down
Taunt
Crunch
Thief
Kadabra lv. 85
Recover
Role Play
Future Sight
Psychic
Gyarados lv. 80
Twister
Rain Dance
Dragon Dance
Hydro Pump
Aggron lv. 69-70
Iron Tail
Protect
Metal Sound
Double Edge
You'll probably think that I'm dumb for making Gyarados forget Hyper Beam, but the attack was less accurate than Hydro Pump, and I didn't want to get rid of Rain Dance or Dragon Dance, because they're handy to have if you need to raise his power.
I don't prefer using TMs or HM's on this particular party, and I also don't use any of the legendary pokemon for battling, strange as that sounds...
You two are lucky, I've never even seen a shiny pokemon in Ruby. (I caught a whole bunch in Silver, thanks to Game Shark! <_<)

I've got a few reserves aswell, along with countless other Mewtwos, but too many make it boring.
I'm not a fan of Gyarados, unless it's changed on Ruby it's got too amny weakness and it's not fast enough. I like high speed and high special, but Tyranitar is okay because 4 of his five stats are above 280, the bad one being speed.
As for memories remain what's with all the Arcanine? Just coz it's your favourite doesn't mean you a party of it! In that case i'd have a party a Gengar which'd be slaughtered by a decent dark or pyschic, the same goes for your Arcanine, a good water type would kill 'em all, Starmie or even Gyarados.
i lost track how many times i killed the elite four, atleast a 100, i've been playing for around 200 hours and i'm missing Blissey, Togotic, Celebi and something else for a 251 pokedex (and it's not mew).

You see Blue is my rarity file, it completes the game and gives the Mewtwo, Articuno,Zapdos, Moltres, starter and both Snorlaxs to Yellow which is my storage file, which stores everything that's not on Silver or Gold. I use the time capsule to trade to silver if i want to. I think i've got eight different Mewtwo's at lvl 100 varying in quality and another two in the 70's. I had the motivation to do this, my to friends also wanted the best party. I originally had the best Mewtwo and Gengar, no one got close to the Gengar's stats only me with my one on silver bettered it, however the Mewtwo wasn't better they just got three or four that where close so i played through Blue and got lot's more, put them on Yellow and leveled them up to lvl100 to see if they where any good and because they where traded they level up faster. Every spare 20 minutes i had i fought an elite four. I was the pokemon champion at my high school. When the craze took hold and every one played it. i spent my breaks and dinners crushing any party that dared challenge mine (and there where lot's of them). All that was about 4 years ago now. Good memories.

Shining Pokemon are actually WEAKER than the original. Jsut rarer and more eyecandy. Yers, red garados is actually weaker than the origianal. They just ahve goiod stats when caught but have a bad growth rate.

Aww, this means that nobody read my previous post about Shiny Pokemon... and DV's...
Shiny Pokemon have ABOVE AVERAGE stats: so, they may or may not possess greater stats than "normal" Pokemon. However, you can be guaranteed that it's at least decent, which is why, stat-wise, they are fine.

Should I have Glalie hold the Quick Claw or the Nevermeltice when I face Drake? Usually, his Flygon are faster than Glalie, but are a lot more vulnerable when I have her hold the Nevermeltice.
Oh, and when it was down to the last turn for both me and Steven, and all my Pokémon fainted as sacrifice to bring Groudon back, I let Manectric faint, then brought out Groudon and used Earthquake on Metagross' remaining HP, and I won. What can I do to escape that last life-threatening moment?
Oh, and by the way, I did an experiment with the EXP. Share on Metang, and already after the first three in the Elite Four did it go up to lv. 40 after Glacia. Top that, sir. :(

Posted 04 August 2004 - 06:41 PM
1) Unfortunaly, your Glalie's ice attacks seem to be in short number (PP wise, that is); if memory serves, Blizzard and Sheer Cold have only a 5 PP maximum each, and Ice Beam has 10 PP...plus, you've probably used her in battle...so I'd equip her with the Nevermelt Ice; you'll want to squeeze as much damage out of her as possible. The only serious threat from Flygon is his Dragon Breath anyway.
2) Save Blaziken for the Steven battle. If he knows Fire Punch or Blaze Kick, you can wipe out Metagross in 1 turn. If you do use Groudon, though, I'd use a Dire Hit on him, and then use Fire Blast (another 1-2 hit KO)
3) Oh, you're good. I have to have fought the Elite four at least 5 times just to have gotten Metang to evolve into Metagross. You're pretty close to having him evolve, yourself (I think he evolves at lvl. 48...).
#41

Anyway what's your favourite pokemon?
Mewtwo is not allowed as it is too strong just makes it boring.
Mine personal favourite is Gengar. I just love the Ghost type. Complete protection from Fighting and Normal type moves. The only other ghost i've used is Misdreavus and it's moves where...interesting. Hyponosis and Dream Eater is such a lethal combination. My best Gengar kills ANYTHING that isn't Psychic or faster than it with an Earth or Psychic move like Earthquake or Psychic.

But I hate acquiring him; you have to trade. Right now, in Ruby I only have a Kadabra; but, thankfully, all I need is to rent Pokemon Colosseum, link up my GBA and GCN, send my party to Colosseum, and Kadabra will finally evolve.
I see that Dullahan suffers the same problem with Gengar.

I do have a query though. I don't know whether to evolve Haunter at lvl 25 when it evolves or at lvl 100 when it's finished. I usually to the lvl 25 one as i think Gengar gets better stat boosts. i think it learns Dream Eater the same level as Haunter anyway.

By the way, the reason that whoever mentioned that their Gyrados was weaker than their Red Gyrados, was partially wrong. The regular Gyrados would have less IVs, or permanent values that alter their stats, but since you have raised it for longer, it would have higher EVs, which work sort of like more complicated EXP that affect only one stat area at a time. If you gave your Red Gyrados the right treatment, (not just bashing wild Pokemon, but "specific" wild pokemon) it could end out being your best party member. I may explain more if people want it and I feel like it.

A ruby one, obviuosly but what's it's types and stats?
#92
Posted 09 August 2004 - 07:12 AM
They're supposed to have extremely powerful legs. It's the evolved form of Torchic; one of the pokemon you choose at the beginning of the game.
(Anyone think nicknaming pokemon is corny?)
#93
Posted 09 August 2004 - 07:21 AM
The names are pretty bad, squirtle and Mareep are some examples.
Which is better Ruby or Sapphire and i'll buy that one.
#94
Posted 09 August 2004 - 07:37 AM
They do have special abilities, though; various powers that activate automatically. For example, Kadabra has "Inner Focus", so he cannot flinch in battle. Swellow has "Guts" which raises his attack when his health is low, and Gyarados has "Intimidate" which lowers the attack of the first pokemon to see him.
Silo and I have Ruby, but it seems that a lot of people prefer Sapphire. It depends, do you like Groudon (left) or Kyogre (right)?
#95

What's the difference between the 2 and which one is better, from looks it'd be the left one.

Groudon is a Fire and Ground type pokemon. I've been neglecting all of my legendary pokemon, so I don't know much about the moves it learns.
And by the looks of it, Kyogre is a Water type. You'll have to ask someone with Sapphire for the details.
Another difference between Ruby and Sapphire is the "Team" that you fight against. Ruby=Team Magma, Sapphire=Team Aqua; it doesn't make much difference in the storyline.
Also, there are those few exclusive pokemon.
Ruby:
Groudon
Seedot, Nutzleaf, Shiftree
Illumise
Minun
Duskull, Dusklops
Sapphire:
Kyogre
Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo
Volbeat
Plusle
Shuppet, Banette
(Some of these pokemon can be found in both games)
etc. etc. etc.
It all depends on which pokemon you like best.

You can get Volbeat and Illumise in either version, man. They're just a little rarer than the one that's a predicament to the game. =/

It's a tie, actually. But either way, you can't have a drought and a flood at the same time. And also, even if there's been a flood, people can find ways to live on water. So, floods aren't all that great, since you need water. =/

I prefer Groudon. People can live on water (like one of the towns have proven in the game perfectly), but a drought, everyone will die of thirst sooner or later. Plus, Groudon looks way cooler than Kyogre!

Anyways its a great game, the music especially, was done very nicely :) and when you use the new item, the VS Seeker, it's funny to watch the little dudes jump up and down when they want to battle with you again.
For those of you who don't know Pokemon Fire and Leaf are remakes of the original games (we don't have yellow yet though).
Anyhoo, my Pokemon party is going good, except for my level 22 Mankey... >_< She's surprisingly weak for a fighting type. Well that's all I have to say for now.

If I'm not terribly mistaken, you only get to see Mirage Island on a nearly rare basis; not from a Pokémon that should indicate when it appears. Ask the man in the far right house of Pacifidlog Town if he sees Mirage Island that day.

read the part where it talks about Pokemon Diamond and... whatever the other one was.
While that is cool, I thought we'd get a new Pokemon Crystal/Gold/Silver, since those were the best versions in my opinion.

EDIT: I have played RUby over 500 hours! And I still love it!! I got Fire Red too, but it is not as good as Ruby! Ruby was one of the best games I ever played. Well... in fact it IS the game I had the most fun with! I played red, yellow, gold and cristal too and beaten them. I hope that Nintendo makes a remake of GOld and Silver too and call it something like: Scared Gold and Aero Silver... I liked gold very much so I hope to see Johto in the GBA or DS way...
This is what I think that is the best PKMN team ever. (From all over the world)
(HP means Hidden Power)
1:
Mewtwo item: Salac Berry Nature: Modest Moves: Psychic, Recover, HP, Calm Mind
Charizard item: Charcoal Nature: Quiet Moves: Blast Burn, Fly, Eartquake, Flametrower.
Lugia item: Choise Band Nature: Adamant Moves: Psychic, Aeroblast, Fly, Recover
Rayqauza item: Dragon Fang Nature: Timid Moves: Outrage, Dragon Claw, Ice Beam, Flametrower
Pikachu item: Light Ball (SP. ATK X 2 By Light Ball rolleyes.gif) Nature: Modest Moves: Thunder, Attract, Rain Dance, Surf (can be learned if you have PKMN Box and store MAAAAANY Pokemon in it you get a Pichu egg who knows Surf!)
Kyorge item: Mystic Water Nature: Modest Moves: Surf, Thunder, Calm Mind, Ice Beam.
It's a great team I think! Butt you can change Kyorge for Articuno which knows Mind Reader and Sheer Cold (hehehehe that combo NEVER failes) to destroy your opponent's PKMN in 1 hit. And if you think that Pikachu has to low defenses, change it for Breloom (item: Salac Berry, Nature: Brave Moves: Mach Punch, Sky Uppercut, Leech Seed, Toxic)

But dude, when this game is here in Europe... I ALREADY HAVE THE DS FOR CENTURIES. :) Yeah this is spam now so: I play Pokémon alot, got some good ones, want to play Diamond/Pearl, the cities are to small (just as in GS), why can't you Dive in FireRed/LeafGreen, do you guys play with EV's too? Then again, the only use for a Colosseum 2 would be if they released (or re-released) another pokemon game, besides emerald, on the GBA, since you can already use Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, and LeafGreen for battle on Colosseum (Yes, you CAN use FR/LG on Colo. I have my FR team registered to it right now)
