I saved up some money for a PS2, but I have no idea what game to get. I've already played the obvious (FFX, FFX2, .hack series, etc) but don't know what's a good game to start with. Any suggestions?

Thats the game with the Disney characters right? How in the world did that game sell so much?!?! Is it that good? Never played it before.
Edit to BLL : Ok it was Viewiful Joe It looks bad but its actually pretty funny its coming out for the PS2 and so is Viewiful Joe 2 also there is Demon Stone which is ok to but you have to wait until it comes out.

I've heard the "Jak and Daxtar" series is also pretty nice (the final game in the Trilogy is coming out soon...)...

Also there will soon be Tekan 5 which i think will be awsome and metal gear solid: snake eater which is good to but if i were you i would wait a bit but whatever do what you want to do k later hope you like my suggestions.

I don't like PS2 but I do like its games...I prefer Ratchet and Clank over Jak and Dexter...Don't buy .hack series...I think its a horrible rpg/action game...Get Dynasty Warriors or Drakenguard...Xenosaga is pretty good too...

I think the Anniversary collection is on GCN as well (must...have...it).

Other PS2 suggestions:
-Hmmm...well...I don't know if you're a GTA person, but a lot of PS2 owners have those games; they're pretty "fun" (if you're a sadist, that is :().
-If you're a snowboard fan, SSX Tricky is a must buy, too; it's an older game, but very entertaining. Not very "realistic" though (I say get it on PS2 because the GCN version is awful).

Well...I just don't see the fun in melting old ladies on a street corner, using a flamethrower, and then swiping their cash.

hmm, this isn't really a game but you can always try the eyetoy.It's actually quite fun. The only flaw is if ure playing it in the middle of the living and mum comes in, it does make you look really strange (bad memory considering my friends came over just then "sweat drop")

I think you should get GTA 3...Much nicer game...Modern times setting unlike Vice City...Graphics are better and easier too...Cars are hot! Even the regular ones are nice...But in vice city the regular cars are ugly...Too bad you don't ride in motercycles or helicopters but thats not that big of a deal...

Edit: also if you like hockey games you should get ESPN NHL 2K5 its suppose to be great.
