Face it: things are moving slowly. Until some GS3 new comes around, we're short of cool topics.
So how about we hold an awards ceremony?
I saw this on another GS forum... but since this is the only one I go to I'm not sure which one it was.
Anyway, they gave out sigs to people like 'Best Topic', 'Most Posts', 'Coolest Name', etc.
How about we hold our own awards, each year (06, 07, 08, etc.) to give out these prizes. It will be really fun, and at least something to do.
So... who's up for it?

A split infinitive isn't a grammatical mistake. It's a sentence that goes like this:
I deftly killed a mocking bird.
You have to have an adjective ending in ly before a verb, and then a noun.

I thought it came from the physics process called splitting infinity. Through examination of observable evidence astrophysicists know what happened after 1x10^-43 seconds after the beginning of time. However, it's virtually impossible to trace history all the way back to zero since most of the evidence was destroyed by the big bang. This absence of evidence created the "creation gap" as it is now called. Thus, the exponent will keep getting bigger logarythmically as we discover more and more about the beginning of the universe and the gap will continue getting infinately smaller. Many religous people say that this creation gap is "where God is" because science has no way of explaining what happened during that unimaginably brief time period. Less and less investigation is done on this subject because people don't want to be accused of trying to "disprove God" and because this process was once dismissed as pointless by a nobel-winning theoretical physicist who said "the quest will never end, if you split infinity in half, it's still infinite" thus that term was born.
Hmph, maybe I was just thinking too hard.

We're getting off topic. Speaking of which, the Off Topic forum sounds like a nice place to start. Instead of complaining it would be good to get to the talking. Things will lighten up when GSW comes along in a month or so. Awards will always be a part of GSSF now, I suppose.
