Spore from Maxis

You start of as a little single-cell organism, playing a game much like that fish one where you eat the smaller fish to get bigger, to eat even bigger fish. Yeah, that's the one.
In the Creature Phase, you become a creature and I mean, ANY kind of creature; customization is amazing here. You have to just survive here, not be eaten, and eat whatever as long as it's part of you diet. You could be a herbivore, at any rate. I don't know what you do to advance through this stage, maybe time is all that's needed.
Enter the Civilization Phase, this is where you have more than one creature to control. You have to build up a settlement for your creatures to survive. I think they have a religion, too. Or maybe not a religion per se, maybe it was just different cultures.
Now you go to the City Phase, where your creatures try to control the planet - peacefully or otherwise!
Finally, you have the Galatic Phase. Your creatures want to spread to other planets to have their numbers grow even further. You build a spaceship!! The spaceship is customizable, too!
Yup, that's it. Pretty simple of a game, huh?

Just amazing.

Spore looks amazing. If you can, download the 50-something minute videos from YouTube or something. They really show the potential of the game and they're awesome.
I may get a new rig just for this...

If I had a PC that was powerful enough, I'd buy it in an instant (when it comes out), but for now, I'll have to sit tight and wait for a new comp.

Anyway, this game does look pretty interesting, but I doubt it could be considered the best game of all time. Depending on the price, I might get it.

There may not be much incentive to go through with a new kind of creature, but let's hope not.

Can't wait till I get my hands on it.

Yes, the possibilities are endless aren't they?

They say the smallest creature you can make will be the size of a hampster, and the largest, roughly the size of a full-grown African Elephant.

Just simply amazing what the possibilities are.

I imagine a hampster would be more prone to have stealth with decent speed.
But that means I'd have to conquer cities peacefully... bah.

Speaking of which, is that possible, for your creature to be prone (or resistant to) disease? And likewise, can sudden "mutations" occur as the creatures evolve?
I'm really curious to see just how realistic and epic this game is, and how much detail the studio is putting into it.

Can't wait 'till they have a demo out, which I think they should make one.

Good thing to, seeing how unpopular computer gaming is, here anyway.
EDIT: Ya know, I just watched the 15 minute developer demonstration on IGN and I REALLY want this game! It looks like something I could keep coming back to. The Space Phase looks awesome! I love games that allow you to just play around absolutely any way you want to. This looks more like your game than the developer's game with all the deep customization, and that's something I haven't seen in a long time.
Too bad it doesn't come out till Q2.

Also, we can have bipeds, but I have to wonder if they could be like humanoids?

I just found this site, for those of you that may not have seen it. They also have more screenshots, videos, etc.
Now it really looks a lot more exciting to me, than it did a couple hours ago.

You first statement is true and is one of the biggest flaws of PC games, I'll admit. Your second statement applies to PC gaming as well (laptops, duh) so you can't count that against PCs. And as for you third statement, it's true that PC games generally have more bugs and glitches than console games, but I've never owned or played a game on my PC that had "tons of bugs" as you speak, so that was slightly exaggerated.

Speaking of which, Maxis games always seem to play better on computers. With the obvious exception of Bustin' Out, but it still wasn't as good as the original PC game.

Video games are a lot like movies. Movies are entertainment, but they're also considered a form of art. Video games are in the same way. Creating video games is an art form, and rightly so. But unfortunately, video game developers aren't widely respected as artists just yet, and Nintendo isn't helping much. But, look at the Console War topic and read my summary of it.
Anyways... what vehicles would you guys create?

[EDIT} But about Spore comming to the DS/Wii, I'm sure it will. There's a second article on IGN about the guy apologizing, and his opinion doesn't represent all of EA anyway.

Hecker fully apologizes, it's all in the article. So say hello to Spore on Nintendo consoles!

Delay'd. Well, at least we know they care about actually FINISHING the game as opposed to releasing a half-assed version.

Oxymoron!
I agree with you on your previous point though; if Spore is as anticipated as they make it to be, a few months delay could be worth a more polished product, although the possibility of a 2009 release seems a bit rash.

I kinda hope it's not that they're trying to port it to consoles, considering I love to hate consoles so much. Either way, I'm glad they're not rushing it...
