Now that that's over with, I feel the same as SoT. That's how I feel when buying most of my games. Even if they aren't as ghey as pokemon. I like the series, but I'm calling that because in a way, it is pretty stupid. They're pretty good games though.

As for the starter pokemon, if they can have a fire horse (I forget the name) why not a fire monkey? I for one think it's cool!

I'm still getting PKMN D/P though, I love Pokemon. It isn't a game you be obsessed about, but it's a nice game you play when in your room and got nothing to do at nights. Plus, I'm sure I'll be busy with FFXII. :)

I agree with Eugine about the style. The ledgenadries are the only two decent ones. Before long, they won't even look like animals anymore. They'll be like aliens or something.

Ahm... Yes, this generation seems very... Ugly. As with everyone else, I think the only good looking ones are the two legendaries, AND the water starter. The bird with the musical note on it's head, Perap, is ok too. But otherwise... They're AWFUL. But I still sooo wanna play the games! :)

When the creater of Pokemon first thought of the concept, there were actually, supposedly, nearly 500 creatures that were thought of. You've been seeing only batches of them with each Pokemon generation.
The original 150 in Red/Blue/Yellow/Green, another 100 in Gold/Silver/Crystal (251 total), the number went to 386 in Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald.
So, this new generation of Pokemon isn't technically "new", as they were devised quite some time ago.
---
On that note, I'd also like to point out one another thing; a lot of the Pokemon in Diamond/Pearl look to be a part of existing evolution chains. For example, we've already seen the evolutions of Sneasel and Elekid/Electabuzz, we see the pre-evolutions of Sudowoodo and Snorlax, etc.
#16
Posted 15 August 2006 - 08:30 AM
And I already heard about the "500 created Pokemon" but I highly doubt that's true. Every generation is made by different people, which you can see when just looking at 2nd gen. Pokes and 3rd gen. Pokes. They have a totaly different style to them.

Pokemon's grid overworld was part of the heart and soul of the puzzles within the RPGs. The GC games revolved around snagging moreso than puzzles, so the grid system was dropped for the better. I don't mind the grids.
I like the new concepts going around. The Psychics in the Colour Generation were way too overpowered, so in the Metal Generation, the Dark types evened them out. Let's see if that's the case with the two new mascot Pokemon, whose abilities control time and space. I'm getting the idea that they're gonna be around the psychic type due to the nature of their abilities. I assume the origins of Pokemon are now clear, due to the appearance of more Space Alien-like Pokemon.

The second-last black dot. Hope you understood that...
Anyway, I'll probably play Peral, since I like the pearl legendary more. I don't know HOW I'll play it, since I don't have a DS and probably will never have one, but maybe a PC emulator is the option...
The monkey is crap. But I'll still pick him, since my starter has ALWAYS been the Fire type, since fire is the strongest of the three starter types AND the rarest of the three. I believe the final evolution will look good.

Hyper Beam, for example, will be Special instead of Physical. Normal is a Physical type, though. Hyper Beam is a beam generated using a special force, therefore special.
Thunder Punch is a move that makes physical contact, and the type was changed from Special to Physical, given that Thudner was Special before.

It seems that Diamond and Pearl's PokeWatch or another object has a signal and can't be used if the signal is down. Oh, and It's console equivalent is Pokemon Battle Revolution. The Pokemon actually hit each other this time. A bit of a step up in terms of realism. The DS is really helping with the updated systems the game uses.

For say Thunderpunch, Electabuzz will run up to the enemy and punch him with electricity. Oh, and in Pokemon Battle Revolution, the pokemon are able to damage the environment. Say Groudon uses Earthquake. The cracks on the ground and toppled scenery will remain for ther est of the battle.

And for a further note, the Pokedex's look somewhat like the game console they represent. This new one being similar to the Nintendo DS (lite). New features of the Pokedex include weight and height comparison of two pokemon as well as your own height and weight. (I suspect you add that stuff in when you start the game)

Opal is a white rainbow-pattern crystal. If that's chosen as the name, I hope like in Fire Red and Leaf Green, Ho-oh is available again.

Japanese Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal had a special AC Adapter option in the game that wasn't in the English Version. you weren't able to obtain the GS ball via the adapter in teh English version, and so you can't catch Celebi in English.

The only reason I would play FR/LG is Deoxys, and buying a game because of one Pokemon is out of the question.

Pokebread sounds better than Pokeblock, yeah. One of the best new features in DP(I think somebody may have pointed this out before) is that you type your own hight when you start the game, and when you check a Pokemon it shows you how tall it is compared to you.

Let me clarify. Looks like Nintendo's smarter than we thought. We don't enter height/weight at the beginning of the game, but we enter it everytime we're comparing a Pokemon to us. That way, we can get up-to-date info on how big the Pokemon really is.

You don't have a set height/weight throughout the game. You just enter your height and weight into the pokedex everytime you want to compare. What if you grow? The game can't grow with you 'cause everyone's different and grows a different amount each year. What if you want to compare sizes with a pokemon and a height of say your friend who doesn't have D/P. Enter his/hers stats in there. It only affects the Pokedex, NOTHING ELSE.

I rip sprites. Can't be complete without 255 Spinda... :!:
Unown was given the Exclamation point and Question mark forms in The Advanced Generation.
Oh, and the reason for Pokemon's individuality is the fact that they have different values depending on how they're trained or their family background. All Pokemon of a certain species have the same base stats, but depending on the factors above, those stats will be decreased or increased. Pokemon's Natures are a visible example.
By realism, it's meant that Pokemon can fully function as a world in itself.

The new Prof's name is assumed to be Professor Rowan, "Nanakamado" meaning Mountain Ash, or Rowan Tree. I assume he has links with Team Galaxy...
A new feature with the sprites is that battle will influence sprite changes, much like Castform's different types. Cherimu, for example, will revert to a flower bud on certain occaisions in battle, probably due to its abilities or something.

Anyways, in my compettetive party (advanced), I'm gonna start using Hidden Power a lot more. In Pokemon Stadium 2, I was in Kanto Castle facing Lt. Surge, and one of his Pokemon had a Hidden power that was super effective to my team (metal). Lost almost instantly the moment he switched.
Oh, and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will have a linkup Battle Tower. I was wishing Battle Frontier would make a reappearance, though.

The PERFECT Sweeper move. :!:
Actually Hidden Power mostly always has low Power. I have a Pikachu with a Light Ball and 212 Sp. Atk (which doubles Pika's Sp. Atk making it 424). It has Hidden Power Ice and still can't OHKO Rayquazas (which is extremly weak to ice). But yeah giving a Unown a Choice Band will make still make it a little more powerful. Still Unown is just there for being a fun Pokemon. :(

Why the heck did they move it's European and American release dates into the next year!? DP is being released in Japan next month, so why will it take THAT much to translate and stuff?
Also, is anyone going to buy Blue/Red Rescue Team and/or Pokemon Ranger?

The menu will look somewhat like the Pokenav on teh bottom screen. No more pressing start, but tapping the touchscreen. It'll still pause the game, I beleive.

Spin-off games first. Then the real deal.
Red rescue team and Pokemon ranger sound pretty cool. The PokeTop thing's very innovative for ranching Pokemon as opposed to capturing them for battle.
And if you knew I'd have to edit your post, why did you do it?

Has anyone got any information about the Rescue Team games and Ranger? I never really thought about them as a game I would want to try out, so I didn't even find out any info about them.

It's a Light Ball. Not a Magnet.
Pokemon Rescue Team is more or less an adventure RPG where you go through a Pokemon-inhabited land and explore around rescuing others who are in trouble in dungeons. It's ncie to see the Pokemon talk for once.
Pokemon Rangers is very innovative. Not only do they ahve a different style of Pokemon catching, but they can use the Pokemon to mow down obstacles. Of course, in all instances, it shows the pokemon interacting with the environment, which was what Pokemon Rangers is all about.

Missingno is a glitch Pokemon. I only remember it from Red and Blue, but I think it had some weird attack. Glitch City from Red and Blue, I THINK, was that space right of the road from Cerulean to Bill's house. It was rumored to be where a Mew was. But, this is a different game, so I know nothing.

So... YAY Fire Monkey starter! XD

Yeah Blaziken is only good for attacking. His speed and Defence are bad, if not horrible. However I dont think the monkey will have good defence. I think it'll have alot of Atk and Speed. With speed being its best stat. However if its evolution would be like a gorilla or anything, it would be good at defence and attack...

Every monkey Pokemon I've seen turns into a bigger one, if not Gorilla, so I'd assume defence is even just a little better than what that Blazing Chicken can come up with =)

Dude... Who would win: a grass turtle, a water penguin, or a flaming monkey. It just depends who's fighting whom, assuming they're the same level the penguin would beat that stupid monkey.
For your info check Pokecharms.com. Go to their D/P page.

But still, I chose Cyndaquil in Silver, and he is the ugliest of the three starters in that game(if you ask me), but his final evolution is the coolest. And I guess that's what counts. So in the end I'll probably choose him, if I ever play D/P.

I'm sure it's evolution is some humungous(sp?) elephant that's tail is on fire, and it can stand on people, or poop on them..

True. However I think Blastoise porbarly is the ugliest full evolved starter. I liked Squirtle waaay more ;_;.
The other 2 starters dont appeal that much to me, only mr Fire monkey has my intresst and is gonna be my favorite Poke even perhaps over Aipom and Rhydon.

Its tail isn't on fire. It's the hand that is. All I know is it's gonna be released 2007.
And Blastoise looked pretty cool. D:

I never said he was invincible. And besides, starters don't learn any elemental moves until after a few levels, so the match would be pretty balanced anyway.

As for me, I'd teach him Earthquake, Flamethrower, Sunny day, and Solar Beam. That way, most of his weaknesses are taken down. Plus, he has probably the absolute most powerful (and reliable) move - Earthquake.

This is at a disadvantage when you want to actually trade from game to game the regular way, but all the more Pokemon Battle Revolution will offer such. Although, it is easier in a sense that the game does not have to be your own on the otehr end. just shift back and forth.
Another disadvantage is that there is a limit for 6 pokemon a day. Not sure why this is so.
