Two latest browser releases; FireFox version 2.0 and Internet Explorer 7.0.

What are the differences and similarities between the two? Unless I'm mistaken, the new IE browser seems to incorporate a lot of the things FireFox has, like tabbed browsing, and presumably it's just as secure.

But of course, I don't know much on the manner.

Which new browser do you prefer?

You know, I've used both now for a significant amount of time, and as a novice internet user, I have to give Firefox a slight edge. IE 7 has tabbed browsing, but the security features are equally as annoying as that Windows Firewall that bothered you for the first two weeks after buying an XP loaded computer. The security blocks are annoying, but the major advantage for IE is that all the WMP videos open easier, and the interface is slightly easier to manage than Firefox.

But it's Firefox's security that really keeps it on top, you never notice it's there and yet you can notice the difference. Meanwhile, the security popups on IE are all over the place on some websites, and can get really frustrating.

That's true. And I suppose IE still doesn't have those extensions and additional features to download, like FF?

The only difference between IE 6 and 7 is tabbed browsing, a more XPish set of security features, and a smoother interface. Other than that, nothing has changed.

IE only gets a slight edge because FF keeps giving me crap about Multimedia plugins. If I could get programs like Java, Shockwave, or quicktime to play nice with FF, then it would be my favorite.

FF. IE7 is hard for me to navigate. I've only used it on my firend's PC a few times, so I'm not sure if he changed stuff or what, but the normal "File, Edit, etc." buttons aren't there at the top anymore. And I had a hard time finding the favorites, and then finding out how to add stuff to them.

But on a side note, Microsoft has a place where you can download plugins and extensions to IE6 and 7. The only difference is, is that there aren't any themes to download, and the plugins you can download are few, and most aren't free (price range: Anywhere between $5 and $200). The price range gets so high, because some of them are practically programs themselves, but they either work to benifit IE6/7 in a big way, or they open in IE6/7 and can switch between the two (like Photo Shop CS2 & Image Ready CS2). Or something else that would cost a lot of money.

              Basically, FF still pwns IE.

Just got FF2, it doesn't seem that big an improvement over the older versions of Firefox, but on the other hand, Firefox has always been a good browser. (I've been using it since Firebird 0.7)

EDIT: Well, the spellcheck seems to be pretty useful, it a bit annoying.

Mr. T, the main toolbar is not hard to find. Just right click on any open space in any toolbar and make sure "Menu Bar" is checked. Basically, that's a non-issue.

I got FF2 sometime last week, and it seems pretty much the same, but more smoothened out and less confusing .

FF2's interface looks a lot more professional now. It has a glossier, finished look to it.

The button that closes tabs are now on the tabs themselves rather than to the side. I'm not used to it, but it's something I think I'll get used to. The Spellcheck is a nice addition IMO, since my typing isn't the best in the world.

Also, instead of crowding the tabs, they're put on a side-scroll type of thing. Pretty useful.

Other than that, nothing much else I can see is different.

IE7 shows up weird on my computer. The interface has black backgrounds between menus. Might be the Window Blinds Skin or something.

I just got the Fasterfox addon (after hearing about it from my cousin) and my speeds for it are much better. Just thought you all might want to take a look at it, if you haven't already.

I just updated to FireFox 2.

                          It's superb.
The look has been stylized and become more sleek. The spell-check is incredibly useful, and the overall feel to it is even better than what I have come to know about FF.

Amazing. It definitely blows IE7 out of the water.
