If you took the befuddled world of technology, gave it to Steve Jobs, and told him to make a phone, this is exactly what you'd hope to get. The result of the long-awaited iPhone is truly amazing. It's an iPod, a phone, an internet browser, a GPS system, and it plays videos and movies all on a crystal clear dramatic 3.5" widescreen display. And the whole screen is touch sensitive. It's a marvel. Check it out.

That phone is totally amazing, I really agree. Damn, too expensive though ;)

Appple has done an excellent job though, the only problem with the phone is that it doesn't offer 3G, woulda been a killer, actualy it still would be.

I haven't seen a price point. What is it?

          $499 for the 4GB, $599 for the 8GB.

<__<, I honestly rather buy a PS3 with that money. The iPhone is good, really good, but I honestly don't need all that features right now for that price.

Brilliance on Apple's port. The iPhone is destined to become a success.

The capabilities are mind-boggling, not to mention the clean interface (entirely touch-screen!).

Impressive, is all I can say.

I just saw a few pictures of it today. It looks nice, but way to expensive for me. It kind of looks like it'll be the next RAZR, and eventually EVERYONE will have one. ;)

It's not about the price. It's about the sheer novelty and the sheer innovation on Apple's part. Just look at it's design, look at it's capabilities. This is going to represent a great step forward for electronics.

Darn, you beat me to it SoT. I'm curious to know what kind of payment schemes Apple will make available for this. Like pre-pay.

I think Cingular will be handling all of that, not Apple itself.

Or is that still apple records pissed that they breached contract and went into the music industry?

Looking at the image given, they seem to have incorperated all the Dashboard widgets into the device. I imagine you'll be able to download more in the same way as a Mac OS X.

I'm wondering how the phone companies will work it out here in Canada, because we do not have Cingular. I'm sure Rogers will jump at the opportunity, they were the first to get the Razr.

I wonder if the iPhone will become the PS3 of the mobile industry, you know like CNet putted it, "tech that looks absolutely amazing but is far too expensive for most people to even consider buying."

The PS3 had the same hype the iPhone has when it was announced but watch it now. Lets hope the iPhone can answer why it costs this much, and give good enough reasons to buy it, because under a plan it costs 600US, I wonder without a plan what the price might be, $1200?

They probably want to set it at the same price as an Ipod when a new one is released, then they gradually lower the price. Apple wouldn't be stupid enough to keep it at this price for long.

If you consider how much Blackberrys cost with a prepaid plan though, this isn't really that high of a price point. Business people will buy into this right away, and because it appeals to a huge audience (pretty much everyone under 60), it won't really be the PS3 of the mobile industry.

Unfortuantely, its processor is ****. The Zune's processor is 400mhz, 77mhz more than a PSPs. Also, I'm not too interested in it, my friend tells me that its actually built off a pocket pc design Apple bought the rights too. Its not even a true iPod, or Mac product. Just a Windows based platform with Apple looks.

And if your asking why processor matters: I have a 80gb Video. The transistion screens and seek time are brutal in comparison to the Zune. Not to mention video load.

Other than being able to share tunes, I don't see what's so great about the Zune. A processor really shouldn't matter in a music player, and Microsoft is obviously just doing a knock-off with slight improvements.

I went into cingular the other day to get a new headset for my phone, and while I was there I asked about the iphone, and found out that there are gonna be two types: A 4gb and an 8gb. I believe that both will have the same features, just that the amount of space will make one cost more. I wonder which one of them is priced at $600.

Still not much of a price drop. Anyone buying this might as well go for the 8gb one. I would personally just buy a PS3 with that money instead of a phone that i'll use for only about 2-4 yrs at the most.

lol, personally, I have yet to see major uses in the extra stuff tehy add in cell phones today. I have the Sony erikson (the orange one with 2gb ms pro) and I barely use it as an mp3 player, mainly to store my random photos I take of things I see.

Apple rarely shows off their products, so since they advertised about iPhone so much, I'm expecting it to be great.

I agree. And in fact, as excited as I am for the iPhone (I certainly believe it will be an amazing gadget), this article provides some reasons to doubt the iPhone.

If anyone can find one to support it, to balance it, it would be appreciated.

The one thing that wasn't on there that I personally question is battery life. With only five hours of music and videos, the initial battery life looks very poor.
