Try using firefox, if your computer still crashes when you type into the browser, it's something else wrong with your computer.

You don't actually have to save it to a thumb drive, installing it on any directory on your regular hard drive will work just fine. That's what I use at school all the time, since it won't allow us to install programs there, either.
