Well I just got a new tower PC, one that can, *gasp* game! First PC capable of such things that I've had in a long while. And I need to catch up on the last 8-10 years of gaming! I left off with the second Age of Empires game really.
So, I want to keep things cheap, because I just spent everything I had to build this thing. X_x But so far, I'm looking at Unreal Tournament 2004, Half Life 2, StarCraft, Diablo 2, and the Longest Journey. No Oblivion or F.E.A.R. quite yet, maybe when they get price drops. I'm not into PC gaming really, but I want to see if I WILL be. ;)
Oh, and my specs are an AMD 2.2Ghz Processor, two 512mb RAM cards, a motherboard with nVidia's nForce on it, and a Radeon 256mb 128bit (DDR3) video card. For more details, you can see them individually...

Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

Et pout vous, Blink... GD13's right; I think you should get more RAM for a gaming rig, if you want to play recent games.
I doubt Oblivion will be getting price drops soon, but do you what you can to get it anyway! Buy Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles along with it and you'll be set with a game that could very well occupy you for 200 hours (and make you cringe at the thought that you just shelled out a good $80 for one game). And then when you get a little bored, get some of the most popular community-made mods and you have a fresh new game again. Oblivion is also the only game I know where cheating is a good way to entertain yourself. Spawning Bandits and Marauders and making them fight each other is awesome, whilst you watch and occasionally lob a fireball at them. (ragdoll physics) You should also get it because I don't have anyone else to talk to here about OB.
Other than that, Supreme Commander is supposed to be awesome, but you might want to wait until you upgrade to a dual core processor for it.
You want cheap, right? How about Civ IV? It's addicting and it isn't too demanding for PCs.

Maybe I need to spell it out in NUMBERS for you guys. 2x512mb. TWO. 2x512 > 1000. I have MORE than a gig of RAM. xD Barely, but still. I may eventually pick up another 512, and have THREE. But I need to get a sound card first. >_>
So yes, TWO 512s. A little over a gig. I should be able to run anything out there right now on the "required" specs.
And C&C sounds good, but it's still gonna be pricey. And yes, that means no Oblivion. And no Wow! xD I have a life, geeze...

Anyway, I don't do PC gameing much myself, but even though NFS: Porsche Unleashed is REALLY old, it still has great graphics by even todays standards, is fun, and has a lot to do in it. Obviously, it revolves around Porches, but you can fine tune each car to such a degree, it's like reality. I'm sure there are better racing games out there, but not for about $15 or less. :)

awsome game, its an RTS like Starcraft, but everythings in 3D and it plays almost like Axis & Allies. cant remember the reqs for it, but its an awsome game. the only problem is you need all three games to play as every race on the multiplayer
