They don't tell you all of that because Mario is not a character from some typical RPG. There is no reason for commonsense or reason, because everything makes perfect sense without it. 20 foot backflips? Sure! It makes sense because there's no need for sense! Giant animated mushroom things that chase you? We've all seen/heard weirder things that were actually REAL.

That movie was horrible. And think about it. If they're the Mario Bros., then that must mean their last names are Mario. Hence, Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
