When you double post, it automatically merges posts together. That is good.

It, however, takes out all line breaks in the post.

    That is bad.

Ya, I do find that a little bit annoying. I wondered why you had made that post like it was. Is there a wa to change it, or is it just always like that?

The idea of merging double posts is to prevent a person from continually spamming a topic, or posting excessively to raise the post count. It's not designed to make them neat, it's a preventive measure to keep a topic from becoming disorderly.

That said, there isn't an option to somehow incorporate a line break when two posts are merged.

I think you are wrong GL... Double check (or Max, look through the Admin CP plz ^^) or something. This isn't the first time the forum merged double posts, and it was done rather fine.

If there is, I honestly can't find it. There's a time limit imposed that determines for how long consecutive posts are merged (it's set for these boards at an hour), but nothing that seems to indicate distinctly separating the two.

Though, I do remember (vaguely) what you are referring to Eugine.

I do not believe there is an option for that. It is either an IPB bug or has to do with the way the two posts were formatted. Or both, who knows. I'd say just try to avoid double posting in the first place (use edit post).

I'd like to bring this back up and say we should remove the "double post" thing, and enable like a 5 or 10 second flood control. I understand that you dont want people to stack their post counts, but i think it is restricting. People may have to read an extra... two or three posts to get to the bottom of a page, big deal. maybe it's just me, but where ive been, part of the fun is reading every other post that's been made and catching up and seeing everything that other people have to say.

i would place bets that the people here have the courtesy to not abuse it. i understand that the edit thing works just as well, but having the same person post two or three times in a row really isn't a big deal, or shouldn't be.

there's nothing wrong with it... there's just something about seeing two posts in a row from the same person that makes it special. i dont know.

people should still be encouraged to use it, and not post more than once in a row. i think flood control would work just fine, and that if someone does post an occasional two in a row, there really shouldn't be any problem.

It just wastes a lot of time and space if everybody is making multiple posts in a row. If you've got something to say, you can say it in one post. I don't see what's so special about it...

i guess it's just something im used to from the other boards. that's fair though.

oh and if by space you mean file size.....no...... :)

I like thepost merging. That way, if I want to quote someone and add something to my post about it, then I don't have to copy and paste. :D

But t ht's just me being lazy. The lack of line breaks is pretty annoying though.

EDIT: NEW QUESTION. can we add line breaks yet? doesn't look like the admins have found a way. have people messed around with putting spaces or hitting enter at the start of the second post?

                                edit: fail.
