Ah well, the description for the Sony subforum says discuss games, so I'm putting this topic here >_< (Plus, I want mah views!!!)

Anyway, this is a new ad for the PS3 (which isn't running yet) for non-US countries. Do you guys think it's appropriate or effective?

Dear God, that ad is awful. Im not going to buy a PS3 now purely cos of that advert. So there, it had a negative effect - I was seriously considering it between PS3 and X360 too!

Yeah I can just imagine the discussions in 20 years time:
'Hey do you remember the PS3? It had an ad where the guy was naked and had a thumb instead of a penis. Yeah that totally related to the experience of playing a PS3!'
At least the ad for the first Zelda game is funny cause it's outdated. This is just wrong.

It's effective in the way that it sticks in your mind, but who cares if it puts you off buying it?
Trust me, I know a lot about advertising. This was a very big mistake on Sony's part. Being unique and eye-catching NEVER comes before actually making the product look good.

@PDM: Yes, but I think Sony would want people to go out and buy their product from an ad, not get freaked out by it.

I think they wanted the controversy angle to stir up interest, but I never think that's the best approach. They should just showcase the games.

The ad is ghey in more ways then one. If they want to attract attention, why wouldn't they just put a picture of a naked chick with big boobs and no nipples?

ok, not defending it or anything, but given the little playboy symbol on the side saying "playboy forever" I don't think it was ever meant to show in anything other than dirty magazines anyways. But I could be wrong, I don't know where it was intended to go. Still, yeah, I've never gotten how ads that go for shock value make you buy things.
