Seeing Rush in another thread motivated me to do this. Anybody know any Dream Theater or Liquid Tension Experiment?

If not, and you like crazy guitar and keyboard solos, you're missing out.

I don't mind progressive scan, but in music, not particularly.

          YYZ by Rush http://www.youtube.c...h?v=mXCZvRNgLnI

drum solo by Neil Peart (rush) http://www.youtube.c...h?v=5WoQEt_4l5s

here's a keyboard solo from the song Acid Rain (by Liquid Tension Experiment)

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFmySp89bQc...feature=related

here's a song called Universal Mind, also by LTE

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFmySp89bQc...feature=related

Prog is hit or miss with most people. it usually involves very fancy solos and odd song arrangements including some odd time signature changes. they also for the most part wont follow a normal song structure of verse verse chorus verse chorus, or that sort of thing.

LTE is all instrumental, as they were just a side project band. if you like that at all, I'll show you some dream theater. the keyboardist, guitarist, and drummer from LTE are also in dream theater.

oddly enough, all of what i linked is instrumental. Rush has a lot of vocal tracks though. enjoy!

Kansas is a great place to start. They have bits and pieces for everybody. slightly heavier songs, kinda bluesy songs, progressive epics. The 70's were great for Kansas.

I haven't listened to much opeth lately though. Kinda grew tired of most of their songs sounding similar. Going from Grunt and heavy riffs to acoustic and warm voice.

Mikael was on a CD Called The Human Equation, under the name Ayreon (in which all the music and words are written by one man Arjen Lucassen). His voice is absolutely stellar on that album.

I love Dream Theater; As I Am is just brutal. Got most of their albums, though Systematic Chaos was just poor.

LTE are awesome as well, you have to love Mike Portnoy. With a drumkit that requires two drum thrones with over 100 cymbals and 50 drums, he deserves your respect.

I thought systematic chaos had like 2 high points. The guitar solo in The Ministry of Lost Souls is just screaming though, but songs like Forsaken should never be released. I wasn't even all that fond of Octavarium.

You know that LTE did a 6 show reunion tour over the past couple weeks right? I saw them in Chicago with my brother. I'd strongly suggest looking up videos on youtube. Jordan's keyboard went down about an hour in and Mike, John, and Tony just jammed for an hour. It was awesome. Jordan came out at one point and played guitar, John went over and played bass during this time, and then Mike played bass while John was back on guitar while the drummer from Anthrax played drums.

Even though the keys broke and I was sad, it was a show to remember forever.

I liked Dark Eternal Night and Constant Motion, but that was about it.

And wtf Octavarium was nang. These Walls was a killer track, infact most were. And I love DT's surreal artwork.

My favourite DT album is Train of Thought. Only a few tracks, but all of them are AWESOME.

more or less. Stream of Consciousness and In The Name of God are my favorites.

For me it's a toss between Six Degrees and Scenes.

Scenes is the best DT album for me, with 'Home' being the best track.

                            Systematic Chaos was absolute wank

really need to get hold of Opeth's latest 'Watershed'. I can't see anything beating Blackwater Park though.

he only other Progressive band i listen to is Into Eternity, but they're Progressive Death eith some Power elements, ****ing awesome though

i saw IE open for DT last august. The sound was horrible, but that wasn't really their fault. I didn't really get into them though, but the singer was insane. the other band they toured with, Redemption, i liked. their bassist has a lot of videos on youtube of himself covering difficult basslines such as YYZ.
