It's fun for a while but the novelty wears off. I seriously doubt that many people still look after their towns from the Gamecube version. I know I don't.
Perhaps if a new version included some sort of real reward for doing all of these tasks then it might be worth it.

I'm kinda hoping that Resident Evil 5 can lose some of the controversy that's surrounding it. Anyone who's seen the trailer will know that it looks a little racist. I don't want this to come under the scrutiny of Jack Thompson and the Daily Hate Mail.

No surprise here, I'm most interested to see what Nintendo has up its sleeve. Hints and rumours that Kid Icarus is being revived have been everywhere, and I'd love to see it unveiled - if it's the project that Retro Studios (the Metroid Prime trilogy) has been reportedly working on, then all the better too.

Man people piss me off (Not you)
"Ooh there's a white man in Africa killing zombies, some of which are black. OMFG RACISM"
But it was alright in RE4 when Leon massacared a European village, just not when it's Africa.

Except Sonic never had a weapon.
Anyway, anything that's not directed at "casual" gamers is what I'm mostly interested in. I'm a fan of FPS's and JRPG's (odd combo, huh? :P), so anything relating to those would be nice.
I'd like to see the guys behind the NFS series release something better than their last two titles aswell. Porsche Unleashed for the PC, and Most Wanted for consoles have been my favorites. Carbon sucked, and Pro Street suffered even more heavily from Carbon's issues (complicated stuff that makes everything boring).
Also, Intelligent Systems is one of my favorite developers, so I'm interested in seeing whatever they've got.
But dangit! For some reason, we had G4 for a while and now it's gone! D: I think Spike was the only other channel that ever had anything on E3, and we don't have that now either. I suppose I'll just have to be content with online content.

I don't see why Camelot deosn't just devote their time to a GS3, though. If they need money, it'd be a no-brainer to develop it. It's practically garunteed to sell as long as it's at least half decent.

You're right, there was casual racism in the game. Like the idea of Spanish people living like peasants from the middle ages, despite the game being set in modern times.

Obviously, Brawl brought it back in full-effect, but some (more "hardcore") fans knew about it. They may not have been as vocal about it and it may not have come up often, but there was enough people who knew about it for certain.

... Not.
Looking forward to seeing the new Wii Animal Crossing which has been in teh making for a very long time, and even though I agree with WD that Nintendo should be making something new and not a Kid Icarus, I'm quite interested in seeing what they can do with the franchise(**** off laharl).
Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, they will show a Wii F-Zero. That would REALLY get me pumped for E3. Otherwise, I don't really care about it. I mean, other than AC, Kid Icarus and Pikmin, they're going to show off the new Zelda. Which will be great and all, but to be honest, I'm getting kinda sick of Zelda... Always the same, intact formula over and over again. And it will be nothing different this time.

Aqua, I highly doubt that Nintendo would unveil a new Zelda. It's simply too soon, though I definitely expect them to "announce" that they're working on it, with a possible trailer or so later at TGS.
I wonder what they're "killer" title will be at this year's E3. Wii Fit was last year's (I'm NOT agreeing that it is, just that Nintendo saw it as such).

Most of the major console makers have revealed their products and big announcements at E3, so it's always a time for those huge megaton announcements.
That said, since last year's E3 (2007), the convention has been shrunk down considerably and there isn't the huge display booths for each company and flashiness that it has been known for, but that doesn't change how important E3 is.

In terms of gaming announcements, the two are about equal. E3 is, for example, where the DS, PSP, PS3 were first revealed. The Wii controller was revealed at TGS, though the first demo units of Wii were at E3 2006.
E3 also stems all the way back to the PS1, N64 etc. TGS is far newer and a more software-oriented game show (MGS4, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, etc.)
Basically, both are huge events, and both are worth keeping tabs on.

Yeah, I remember watching an E3 special on Spike, and it showed footy from the old ones. Ahhh, how I miss scantilly clad chicks standing beside all the booths.
And even though E3 wasn't open to the public, thousands of public-people always managed to get it every year. Not as much lately, since it's gotten smaller.

From Nintendo we'll probably see: New Zelda, Kid Icarus, New DS, Retro Studios Project (Ravenblade anyone?), Captian Rainbow (ugh), Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing Wii, Star Fox Wii (maybe), and something nobody expected...assuming that isn't Captain

What, and Nintendo isn't desperate? They are relying on short, casual, easy games instead of putting out hard games the fans want, which is really being worse than Sony or Microsoft ever were to their fans.

Fixed. The majority of people with a Wii are casuals, simple as that. You may not like it, but with the Wii being as massively popular as it is, Nintendo's best strategy is to make games that anyone can play. I'd prefer there were more challenging games coming along for Nintendo too, but Nintendo is a corporation and if they can make more money by catering to casuals (which they almost certainly do), they'll do it.

Anyway, Nintendo can produce shovelware and cash cows at the same time as they produce hardcore games, because the first two hardly take any time to create. You can't honestly tell me that Wii Sports, Wii Play, or Wii Fit took more than a year to make. And if it did, then Nintendo was barely giving them any resources.
Hopefully Disaster:DoC and Conduit will be good. At least they're still releasing RPG's for the DS, though I can't say if any of them are good since I haven't played them. :\
I'm not impressed with any of the big three right now tbh, because it seems like M$ and PHony are just releasing sequels, and Nintendo's just throwing out "Innovative Titles."

When a developer finally does hit the nail on the head, it's kind of hard for them to just drop that series and take another chance. Of course some sequels are uncalled for, but the ones which aren't are among the best games on the shelf.
#91
Posted 14 July 2008 - 03:34 AM
Occaisionally a franchise will get a lot better with each sequel, but for the most part, there's only a few improvements from sequel A to sequel B.
Halo 3 was better than Halo 2 in my opinion, but there wasn't a whole lot different.
SSBB is obviously a better game than Melee (well, I find Melee's controls to be more refined), but again, most of what makes it better isn't that it brings a whole lot of new stuff to the series, but that it just throws in more stuff that's either been done before, or that's not particularly amazing.
Sequels aren't bad, but it's way to easy for them to become repetitive. Afterall, how can a game be fresh and new if it's continuing on last year's stuff?
#92
Posted 14 July 2008 - 04:29 AM
Gran Turismo is about to come out with its fifth instalment, and its a technical driving simulator. Not exactly a wide market, and yet it continues to sell millions of copies a year because it's a plain, down to earth good series. It improves with every new game, but it never changes too much, otherwise it risks losing its essence.

I liked Assassin's Creed, and I thought the futuristic twist was nice. I've only heard praise about that.
It was a bit too repetitive though, and that kind of ruined it. That's why I think a new team would be better for it, because if AC2 is AC1 with a couple more things to do it'll be just bad.

Also, it's not just that the PS3 has lost exclusivity before and now FFXIII is coming to 360 - notice how Square-Enix is putting effort into games that are only on 360. The Last Remnant. Infinite Undiscovery. Developers are starting to realize the 360 as its own capable console, and now they're devoting resources to creating original titles just for Microsoft.

Have you guys even seen the complexity of Far Cry? Jebus, it's the most realistic game i have ever seen. Every time you fire a shot, your gun quality goes down a bit. You start the game off with malaria; eventually getting worse, affecting gameplay; everything has an effect on everything; no NPC's are invincible and everybody can be killed.

That's basically what I said a while ago.
Far Cry 2 looks epic, damned shame it's multi-plat though. Games, particularly shooters, should be made ground-up for either PC or console, never both.

Stupid FF13 on the 360. That really grinds my gears. Is it the same FF13 that's coming onto the PS3, or is it an entirely new game that's part of the FF13 series? And if it's the same, will Versus be coming out on the 360 as well?

True, but atleast PSN works, unline WiiOnline. Really though, I want to see the look on people's faces when Halo 4 comes out on PS3. It will happen, I promise you. And if it doesn't, I will pay somebody to hack my PS3 to allow 360 games to run on it.

Good luck with that, thats almost impossible unless you are extremely good with hardware AND software.
Surely just buy a 360 if you want to go to all that effort? You get the added bonus of playing with me ;D
