Agreed.

Epic fail.
Either way, yeah it looks awesome. Did you watch the PAX demo yet? (And I'm gonna be pissed about having not gone to PAX for a long time.)

Thinking about playing Fallout 1 & 2 for the hell of it.

It seems almost like Morrowind modified -YES HIS FACE IS PERFECT!- to accomadate shootingness.

Regardless this game looks PWNsome, the environments seem much more interesting than Oblivions.
#10

However, from what I've seen the game looks brilliant. I love the idea of being able to create weapons from junk found on the ground, and shooting teddy bears from rocket launchers.
Portable nuke, anyone?

Posted 31 August 2008 - 07:35 AM
However if there's one thing that does annoy me slightly, its the weird HUD where it shows how much % there is to hit a certain body part. Surely that just takes the skill out of fighting.
#12
Posted 31 August 2008 - 07:38 AM
Hopefully shooting without the VATS is just as effective though, because I'd rather go with that.

Another thing I'm looking forward to seeing is how they pull of this post-apocpylyptic world. For example, if these 'vaults' are going to be the only form of settlements, or if they're all going to look the same. I'm also wondering whether the enviroment won't be too dull, or get samey very quickly.

Sheesh, maybe the old school, diehard Fallout fanboys are right...
At any rate, you need Action Points to use the VATS, and Action Points recharge over time. I've also heard that killing monsters in real-time without using the VATS can gain you more Action Points quickly.

Unless there's some enemies with some reeeeaaallly tiny weak spots, the VATS will probably just turn into the 1HKO button. From what I saw from the PAX demo this does seem to be the case, I just want more enemies like that. Keep in mind, when you use the VATS it's using your character's skills to attack so THERE IS A CHANCE TO MISS, just like in a normal turn-based RPG. And if it does hit, it doesn't necessarily guarantee a fancy, gory, Mortal Kombat style death either.

In fact, the main reason I stuck with Oblivion was because I thought the free-roaming was brilliant. Spending hours riding across Tamriel observing the scenery, exploring different ruins and caves was my favourite part of the game.
I'm hoping that with Fallout 3 the world will be just as fun to explore. As I mentioned before, the scenery does look a bit dull, but I suppose that's what adds to the whole 'end of the world' feeling. I'd especially like the have the ability to go into most of the wrecked buildings, etc. It's just that 'freedom' that'd be a major part of the game for me.
#22
Posted 31 August 2008 - 01:59 PM
The Elder Scrolls series, on the other hand, are known for that. Which makes me worry a little... we're already seeing some heavy TES influence in this game.
#23
Posted 31 August 2008 - 02:08 PM
Again, I never played the first two games so I can't really judge whether Bethesda are overdosing Fallout 3 with Oblivion. The in-game menu however looks like a futuristic replica, and I know that they've tried to Oblivion it up with fast-travel; again, another function that I didn't like much in Oblivion, but it was optional.
Obviously Fallout 3 is going to get alot of mixed views, for the exact reasons you said. It isn't made by the original company; it's being aimed at both the old Fallout fans and present day FPS-whores. This means it's either going to be too different to the original games for the old fans, or not mindless enough for the FPS community. But really, when it comes down to it, it'll just be dumbed down to 'Oblivion with guns'.
#24
Posted 31 August 2008 - 02:15 PM
And i'd like missions to kinda be like GTA to an extent. Not in the mission content, but in settings. Almost all of the GTA missions are set in different locations. Industrial power stations, docks, inside law offices. IU'm not saying Fallout should have these locations, but vary them more than oblivion did where most missions were in a cave, or occasionally in an Aleid ruin.

I want to see some more bits of gameplay: a couple more examples of branching/quests being solved in more than one way, more exploration, and just generally a reason to believe that this isn't just Oblivion with a few tweaks, couple more features, and a post-apocalyptic paint job
Oblivion was fun, and this will probably be fun too. If you took both games and played both of them mod-less, Fallout 3 will probably be a better game. But I already played Oblivion and modded it to be the game I wanted it to be, so why should I pick this up?

Yes, I'm an Oblivion hater. The main quest sucked big time (linear as ****. Every town required to close a "new" gate. Was all the same).
Anyway, as WD stated earlier in this topic, I hope it's not all about gory mess, but mainly about the story. I'm a person who loves good stories in games, and I hope this will be one of those games.

Well the cities dont have to load when you go into them this time, so be relieved about that.
However the overworld looks largely the same; vast open spaces with nobody in them, so dont get your hopes up too high.
I'm not massively hyped for FO3 because I know that i'm going to be dissapointed if I do, like what happened with Fable.

Don't. The 9800GTX is just a refresh of the 8800GTX, and only outperforms it's predecessor every now and then. Even then, it's only by a small margine.
Get the ATi Radeon 4850. It's roughly the same price (retails between USD $160 - $200, vs. the 9800GTX's USD $170 - $190), and it outperforms the 9800GTX in actual game testing. the 9800GTX usually scores higher simulated tests (usually by a small margine), but the 4850 averages a 10 - 30 FPS advantage over the 9800GTX in most games.
Heck, it even sometimes gets higher frame rates than the GTX 260 in some cases (i.e. at resolutions of about 1680x1050 and lower).
Basically, ATi's going to be a better choice than Nvidia in most cases.
[EDIT] Forgot to add, the 4850 also comes in both single and dual slot solutions, so you don't necessarily have to give up an expansion slot on your motherboard if you don't want to. The 9800GTX only comes in dual slot, though.

It's actually pretty dam good. I saw a friend play it on his 360 and it looked really crap, but after playing it myself I really like it, it reminds me a bit of the Resident Evil with the survival aspect.
I'm not that far in, just restarted, doing those quests for Moira or whatever.
What really pisses me off are the traders, they never seem to have more caps then the last time I sold stuff to them, how the hell do I make money if I can't sell items for money!

And the other schematic is in a locked chest that needs a key at the Boutique Le Chic in Tenpenny Tower."

Some of the basic stuff feels a little "Oblivion with guns"-esque, like raiding random areas and "dungeons" for equipment. But other than that, lots of stuff are different or at least better than Oblivion. Awesome.

Fallout was great, but pales when compared to Oblivion.

Well, this is just an early opinion but so far I think that Fallout 3 is a better experience than Oblivion.
Oblivion was a huge map of similar encounters. Honestly, you say things are "placed in corners for you to discover" but there's really no reason for the player to go to those corners. ALL the dungeons were the same. It's true. You could discover like 5 dungeons and rotate between them and you'd get all the equipment and leveling up you need. You'd probably see all the enemy types the game has to offer too.
Also, Oblivion characters and dialogue. 'Nuff said.
Fallout 3 feels way more... RPGish. Which is good. Dialogue is heaps and loads better with actual dialogue branches and speech checks and the like.

Custom Pip-Boy/ HUD colour = **** yeah
Quote
uHUDColor=452952319
While you can alter the Pip-Boy and HUD colors using the in-game settings, they are limited to four preset colors (Green, Blue, White and Amber). Here you can alter the Pip-Boy and HUD colors further. The color code used is a decimal representation of RGBA Hex code (Red, Green, Blue, Alpha in Hexadecimal). Basically, to get the correct numerical code for the color you want, you first have to work out its Hex value - again, use this RGB Calculator, click the Table link at the top, select a color, and see the resulting Hex code in the top left of the calculator. Copy this code and add a fourth set of digits for the Alpha (transparency) value, typically FF for solid, lower hex values will be more transparent. Then plug the final 8-digit code into a Hex to Decimal converter such as this one and the resulting string of numbers in Decimal view can be used as values for the variables above. Note: the code for Default Blue is 785383423, Default Green is 452952319, Default White is 3321888767, and Default Amber is 4290134783 (FalloutPrefs.ini).
Huh...

Some console crap

Wireframe Mode: To see just how complex the Fallout 3 game world is, and to also see what objects and characters have been loaded up in your immediate area (regardless of whether they're in direct line of sight or not), use the TWF command to toggle Wireframe Mode. As you will see, the game uses a huge amount of polygons to display the detailed objects and characters in the game world.
Clear Screen Blood: If you have blood splatters all over your screen during combat and you're finding it hard to see through them, you can use the CSB command to instantly clear the screen of all existing blood splatters. This won't prevent new ones from appearing though.

A good amount. I'm ****ing around on one to fix some damn lighting. The PC version is a lot brighter in places (read: Metro Tunnels) than the 360. Was experimenting with Underworld, which I didn't think would have too much power. Hell, how do half the buildings still have electricity?
****in' blind people.
Also, I nearly shat a brick.

Good up until the finale which is just crap and really anti-climatic. If you had some hench assault on Anchorage itself and not just attacking the refinery. I'm disappointed, I was expecting a lot more than this. I was hoping to drive those tanks and get in the power armour, but no, there were about 5 power armour troopers and a few soldiers attacking some chinese.
I was expecting so much more than 2 hours. Waste of money IMO.

*Facepalm* Nevermind.
I`ve found that in Fallout 3 health packs do jack [bleep], and money is impossible to get, compared to the all-healing-chicken wings and million dollar thefts in Oblivion.

2. There were very few places were you could get more than 500 gold in Oblivion from stealing.
Well what new things apart from the quest does the expansion add? (Perks areas items etc)

There's only a single perk and you get it by finding all the intel cases (I found 2 out of 10 :\), and limited items you get at the end which all degrade extremely fast. I was expecting something like the Shivering Isles and I got ****ing horse armour.

Oblivion's setting was pretty sterile anyway. Bethesda seems to be bad at creating a truly interactive and interesting world outside killing things and NPCs to "talk" to. At least Fallout 3's world has an excuse to be sterile and "bland" what with the post-apocalyptic thing.
Fallout 3 may have less, but at least what's THERE is better quality.
Don't call it "Fallout", call it Fallout 3. There's a difference...
