This looks frickin' amazing. I'm sure it'll turn out great. I have only one concern and it's a big one: the length of the game. If it's a five hour thing I'm not going to be purchasing it no matter the quality of the actual gameplay.

I'm kinda skeptical of it being in 2D. They had so much success with the Prime series by moving it into a new generation just to move it back? Those cutscenes are brilliant and I'm really not sold that they're combining them with a glorified 2D Metroid game.

I'll probably be proved wrong in the end though. God I wish I had a Wii.

It's really more akin to pseudo 3D, like the SSB series. Except it seems to me like it'll transition from pseudo 3D to full on 3D pretty smoothly.

I've heard it described as "2.5D" (3D graphics, 2D fixed plane), and that's actually a style I enjoy very much.

No one thought Retro Studios would be able to convert Metroid to first-person successfully. I have confidence in Other M, that it'll be the next successful conceptualization of the series.

Yeah, it so far seems like a combination of 2D Metroid and the Prime series. Should be good I think. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.

could work, but before seeing it in action, all i can imagine it being is a disjointed mess..

not all storytelling is done through cut scenes, especially so for rpg's.

This, this, this. Half-Life series has a pretty good story and there are no traditional cutscenes at all. I think the less cutscenes you have, the better, as actually controlling the action is what separates games from books and movies anyway. Cutscenes are always so hit or miss, they either entertain you (Uncharted, R* games) or make you impatient and just want back in the game. (Eternal Sonata)

I won't knock the idea too much until I actually get my hands on it, as it is an interesting idea. Now that I think about, it'd be cool to have that kind of mode for Uncharted 2 and watch the whole game as if it were an actual action movie. But this idea really rides on whether or not your game is actually fun to just watch and/or actually does have a good story (most games are neither )

I think this will be make or break for the Metroid series. So much of it has been based on the gameplay. Up until this point there were little to no traditional cutscenes interrupting your progress. I think it was part of the appeal to the series... like I said. Make or break.

EDIT: What I think of the review: tl;dr. However, I saw what matters most, and that's that you beat the game in 7 hours. I understand that you had only 20% of all items and that you have more to do after beating the final boss, but I don't spend money on a game that takes less than, at the very least, 15 hours.

After you told me a couple of false spoilers about Radiant Dawn before I played the game, I'm taking everything you say with a grain of salt. Still, I won't be checking this thread anymore just in case. Most likely won't be getting the game because of the (non)longevity, but I still haven't decided for certain.
