I was inspired to post this topic from this video:

    that a friend sent me.

How do you think conceptions of beauty are formed? What do you think of when you hear "beautiful", and what is it through your eyes?

People can be beautiful in so many ways; it's kind of hard to describe in words, haha. I guess you could say beauty is to be attractive beyond or without sexual appeal.

When somebody says beautiful I think of this absolutely stunning girl I know who is just naturally beautiful and wears very little, if any make-up.

I think down to earth personalities are beautiful. Intelligence, common sense, wit, and maybe looks (not necessarilly though)-- yet the thing that makes it all, in my opinion, is humbleness. I actually prefer the guy or girl who thinks they're not worthy rather than the guy or girl who actually thinks they're all that and a bag of chips.

For me, beauty is ruined when it gets to a person's head.

A person's standard of beauty is often times linked to what that person has grown up seeing. It can be people who look similar to that person's family, friends or other people they've seen throughout their life or what they've seen on TV and magazines, etc.

More likely people find traits that are preferrable for child bearing and would make for a good offspring attractive. Big tits, wide hips, etc. for females. Broad shoulders, muscular figure (pecs in particular) and tallness for guys.

              That's all generalization, of course.

                  ^Nice.

I think WD brought up a great point (and you'll always be WD in my heart, "someone else"). Do we equate beauty to be the same as what we find sexually attractive? Or are they two different things that sometimes coincide?

They were always the same kind of thing to me... just different intensities or a slight variation. I wouldn't necessarily want to screw someone who was "beautiful" because that word tends to have some "pure" connotations to it. I'm not the kind of dude that's into that.

Basically, when I think of beauty, "outer beauty" is the first thing that comes to mind. When I think of outer beauty, I usually think of the face first, and the body second.

That's not to say I don't care about someone's personality, but that's usually just the first thing that comes to mind when I think of beauty. Probably because I throw the personality in with the "intelligence" or "brains" aspect of a person.

[EDIT] I also agree with the above post. There's a difference between being hot/sexy, and being beautiful. I think the major difference is a sense of purity or something.

I thought we were talking about beauty as in looks. Are we including beautiful personalities to the mix?

Hmmm... beauty is a term that is extremely versatile and subjective in nature. I'd say that amongst other things, it's managed to retain a natural and almost organic association to it, and having an artistic background, I find that I associate the term more to what I find esthetically/artistically beautiful (and not exclusive to whether or not someone is sexually attractive). Like I'd say that a painting was beautiful, or maybe a particular scenery or a photograph... really anything that provokes emotion or an unusual sense of appreciation I guess.

                          hey sup btw

Beauty I think, is a physical attractiveness that doesn't need to be strived for; beauty is natural otherwise it isn't beauty. Also, anybody who's bigheaded about it becomes ugly. People who know they have natural beauty and flaunt this are the ugliest of them all; the most beautiful are those who dont know it; like Icy said, the ones who hate how they look (however this is also bad in my eyes, apathy about their looks would be more suitable)
