Russia didn't qualify, which is kind of surprising. France wasn't very convincing either in their qualifications, so I don't see them getting very far in the WC. Apart from that, Turkey isn't there either and they normally have a quite good team.

Not only was France unconvincing, the Irish deserved it far more. Great play, excellent defense, not to mention that France's goal that saved them was completely illegitimate (1:10-1:30).

Russia being knocked out by Slovenia was pretty dramatic.
Egypt, reigning African Champions twice in a row, were narrowly beaten by Algeria.
Turkey and the Czech Republic were eliminated early on.

And Argentina and Portugal were at one point almost out completely, but they made it back.

Thank god the actual World Cup is whilst I'm not in uni, I'll be able to watch it on TV back home rather than highlights on the internet.
Felt very sorry for Ireland, definitely didn't deserve to go out like they did but the requests for a replay will almost certainly go on deaf ears. France may have been poor in qualifying but Brazil barely qualified in 2002, so it doesn't necessarily mean no chance of success.
I'm pretty excited though, I think I've got a more mature outlook on the sport now than I ever had before, and I can't wait for next summer.

I see, so the whole "woe is me ):" thing was just an excuse?

Sheesh, Canada, you're one of the top 5 largest countries in the world. Can't you find enough people for a decent soccer team?

Well, Italy and Spain have had the best draws I guess. Stupid Italians probably bribed people again. England had quite a nice draw and the Netherlands had a nice draw.

Group G probably is the poule with the most entertaining games. A poule with Kaka, Ronaldo and Drogba really cant be boring.

England have a good draw, considering what it could have been. Wouldn't underestimate the USA though.
