Got it from here: http://forums.penny-...ad.php?t=109621Rules are simple, from the list provided by the link create a list of your top 25 games, from 1. (Best) to 25. (25th best). Might compile the results or something later, but regardless its a good way to reflect on your past 10 years of gaming.

As for my top 25 list:

    1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) <2000>
    2. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC) <2001>

      LOL

Anyhow, I wouldn't be able to choose the exact order, plus I really can't be bothered. However, my number one game is definitely the same as yours, but I have a couple of games that could be second...

I did it by eliminating all the games I never owned, then a gradual process of getting rid of the games in order of quality.

It started getting difficult by the time I reached a list of 35 games.

            3. Team Fortress 2 (PC, 360) <2007> Its obvious why this is here
            4. Half-Life 2 [Episodes 1 and 2] (PC, 360) <2004> Best single player FPS in existence
            5. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) <2000> Surrealism >> all else
            6. TimeSplitters 2 (GC, PS2, XBOX) <2002> Most played FPS

            8. Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA) <2003> Huurr
            9. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion [Knights of Nine, Shivering Isles] (PC, PS3, 360) <2006> Awesome game even without mods
            10. Spider-Man 2 (PS2, XBOX, GC, PC) <2004> First 'sandbox' game I played and I still think it's better than most sandboxes these days
            11. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC) <2001> Derp
            12. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 [Uprising] (PC, 360, PS3) <2008> RTS <3 + Jenny McCarthy

            14. Grand Theft Auto 4 [Lost and the Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony] (360, PS3, 360) <2008> Game I've laughed most at whilst playing (racing round airport in icecream van etc)

            19. Assassin's Creed II (360, PS3) <2009> Just an awesome experience
            20. Bioshock (360, PS3, PC) <2007> First 360 shooter; gave good first impression of the console
            21. Left 4 Dead 2 (PC, 360) <2009> Barely scratched the surface of this game and already had a shitload of fun
            22. Borderlands [The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot] (PS3, 360, PC) <2009> Boring on own, absolutely fucking hilarious with friends; second most laughed at game
            23. Battlefield 1943 (PS3, 360, PC) Proves that shooters can be simple and even better than most mainstream games. Short lived but 3rd most laughed at game. Plane jousting is the best in-game sport ever.
            24. World of Warcraft [Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King] (PC) <2004> Warcraft lore >>>>> all other lore (excluding mass effect)
            25. Pikmin (GC, Wii) <2001> Again, surrealism >> all else

            Honourable mentions:

Mirrors Edge: Brilliant concept of first person free running game. Shame it was linear instead of a sandbox, as it should have been

Saints Row 2: Arguably better than GTA IV but I now associate it with...bad times in life that make me not want to play it any more. Nothing against the game, just brings back baaad nostalgia

Gmod: While I haven't played too much of it myself, some incredible (and hilarious stuff) has been made using it

Maple Story: While alone its just a grind fest with cute graphics, with friends and hacks it can be fucking fun

Thief 2: Deadly Shadows: One of the best stealth games I've played, its just unfortunate I didn't get to play a lot seeing as it's decided to crash at a certain point even with reinstalling/patching. Would be on the list if I could get further on in it.

I was playing it the other day, and after I quit, I honestly sat back and thought "this game would suck as a sandbox game." As much as I love sandbox games, not every single one needs it. I actually think too many games are trying to become sandbox games. Mirror's Edge is one of those that wouldn't really work, at the most it should have a couple shortcuts or alternate paths, which it already sort of does.

Why is everyone fussing over game(s) of the decade? Games aren't static like most other forms of entertainment, they constantly evolve as the tech gets better. If you'd even look at the year 2005 to to the year 2009, we've made some pretty big steps. If you want to name the best game of the year, that makes a bit more sense to me. Or even the most influential game of the decade, I'm there with you. But to say the best X number of games for this decade, that's a pretty big claim for me to try to make.

With that said... I'll say three games that I think define this decade are:
              • Majora's Mask - Saw it's gen off with a bang, stands as my personal favorite Zelda game. Offered more to do than just the standard go to dungeon, get item, defeat boss, continue. Also has the best narrative of any Zelda game I've played.
              • Half Life 2 - Not only a big influence for FPS, but for games in general. Half Life 2 is the first game I can think of that used physics not only as eye candy, but as a huge mechanic for puzzles, and did it very well.
              • GTA III - The first 3D GTA, and often considered as a landmark for the video game industry. It paved the road for many knock-offs trying to catch the spirit of "do whatever the hell you want, and cause insanity as you please" sandbox gameplay.

Yes, I am aware of how many Nintendo titles are on here, but in my defense, I still don't even own a PS2. Not entirely my fault either.

I'm also disappointed that the Penny Arcade list didn't include any NFS titles. Porsche Unleashes was their best title of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Also, probably about 60% of my gaming hours in the past decade have been spent on AW: DS and SSBM. If you throw both GS games, FE:SS, and FE:PoR, there's probably about 85% of my play time right there.

I see what you mean, I didn't mean sandbox as in dick around and do what you want, but just a much more open world and free game. You're forced into buildings for most of the game which is a bit of a stupid move considering its a free running game. It does it well regardless, I'd have just preferred it if it was actually what they said it was. It eventually turned into a first person stealth/beat em up. Nothing wrong with it, I was just expecting it to be different which is a shame.

I did occasionally find myself trying to run ways that led me into dead ends (and getting shot) until I found the way the devs wanted me to go, but mostly indoors. Pressing the button that points you towards your objective didn't help much sometimes. The game encourages you to keep running and think on your feet, so I suppose a slight sandbox approach to it's levels would have helped. Still, all in all I think the game is an underrated masterpiece, and it did what it wanted to do very well.

Oh i'm not debating that it wasn't a good game, I loved every minute of it (aside from those where I died repeatedly), it just was different to my expectations. Still enjoyed it regardless.

Didn't really like the collection on the site that Tom posted so I'm just gonna put some games down I loved, order doesn't really matter.

                          FFX
                          Unreal Tournament
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos [Frozen Throne]
                          Diablo II [Lord of Destruction]
                          Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
                          Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
                          Guitar Hero 3
                          Kingdom Hearts
                          Kingdom Hearts II
                          Fallout 3
                          Halo 3
                          Golden Sun
                          Golden Sun: The Lost Age
                          Super Smash Bros. Melee
                          The World Ends With You
                          Battlefield 1942
                          Tony Hawk's Underground
                          Grand Theft Auto III
                          Mass Effect
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
COD4+WAW+MW2 but mostly COD4 for reinventing the series
                          Resident Evil 4
                          Need for Speed Underground
                          Americas Army
                          Godfather Blackhand Edition
                          Black

Bit hard to remember back to the start of the decade considering I was 10 and only got a 64 around 2001 so the fact I can't have Golden Eye and SSBB and Mario kart and that is a bit off for me, and it would probably help if I could remember what was in my GBA collection.

If I had to pick GOTD, probably FFX, Unreal Tournament and I’d put in WC3 for 3 Corridors and DOTA, looking back on the list though there’s some good times up there.

I am sorry WD if you believe that the opinions of a few people on the forums equals universal fact, but that isn't my problem.

My point is more, I don't really understand why video game culture and journalism enjoys making top lists of shit. Measurements of stuff. How things stack up to other things. If you look in gaming magazines you see it all the time.

Bit moronic, because video games generally have less in common with each other than other mediums do.
