[Golden Legacy]

As we all know, things went a little out of hand last year. The TRT threads, which had long been closed off each year and a new one started by the Spam King/Queen, were all merged into one. Though I was not the one to do it, I take full responsibility for what happened... It was originally thought (by me) that this could be reversed by Administrator privileges. That turned out to be wrong, as I can see the actions of moderators, but not actually cancel them.

The alternate idea was to split the new, combined TRT into each of its original smaller topics. The names and original posts are all preserved and known, all that's needed is to split the topic. There are two ways to do this, theoretically:

1) Split topics by listing the page numbers (i.e. if a topic has 150 pages, you could split off pages 1-20 as one topic, 21-79 as another topic, etc.)

2) Go through each page of the topic, select posts, and split off the topics by brute force


This is where you guys come in. As it turns out, neither option is actually possible at the moment... unless we can find mods that allow for it.

I've searched for a mod that will allow you to type in the page intervals and split topics, with no luck.

I've also searched for a mod that allows you to select all 15 posts on each page of a topic (instead of choosing them one by one), with little luck there.

The request is this: please search and try to find a mod, or some other way, to split topics by page numbers, and/or to select multiple posts in a topic at once. We can then revive the original TRT threads and separate them, and finally fix this to the way things were.

I've actually spoken with Max about this (a long while back), I don't think much can be done without finding a proper modification (as Skidz mentioned).

Unless, someone is willing to volunteer to check off each post (over 700 pages) and split off the topics one by one.

not really. people aren't bitching about the merged topic, they just thought the name changes and mod switches were a bit wack. i really didn't give a fuck either way. it was like the dudes, or the disney girls. but i dont know how gl got it in his head that the trt merge was a bad idea?

edit - ill do it for modship. or pink font. or nothing if you really want; but next time it's free, if you get what i'm saying :wacko:

That said, it still would be VERY useful to have a mod like the one mentioned.

I guess I can see the appeal in splitting it again, for tradition's sake and preserving them as they were, but this way everyone can go back and see the old TRTs from way back when. Before, it was a pain to see them again even with mod/admang powers. That was the biggest reason I merged them, though I should've gotten approval first. I'm prone to impulses.

Furthermore, ignoring the fact that we're a slow moving board, our community is pretty tightknit to the point that member awards are redundant. Even if they weren't, I think we've all kind of outgrown the "spam king" thing, though I guess that could be me. If you all agree, it just makes more sense to merge all of the TRT topics together to make an end-all, permament, classic TRT.

If enough people really want to split the TRTs again, at least do this. Make a "Forum Gold" board to put the old TRTs in. It works like a trash board, but it's reserved for awesome topics, such as the old TRTs and everyone, even guests, can see them. Lots of other forums have them.

One more thing for the Skeleton Crew to look forward to if you ask me. I thought the awards were great fun.

To be honest, I don't ever remember you suggesting such a thing. =\

Anyway, if we really do decide to split up the topic, we've still got one major hurdle to overcome: Finding a freaking modification that will actually let us do that. I've come up with nothing so far, but to be fair, most of the past half-hour or so for me was spent fixing my computer. :|

Who knows, maybe I'll finally decide to learn PHP and code a mod myself. :O

Though I find that highly unlikely.

I agree with Darksword, this is a fantastic idea. I will gladly get this done when the TRT topics are split. The best way forward is probably to take a vote on it.
