Anything about history, science, the arts, random trivia, that just blows your mind or is not known by many people, post it here.

I'll begin with one. Cleopatra lived roughly between 70BC and 30BC. The Great Pyramids were built around 2560BC. The first Apollo Moon landing was in 1969AD.

Cleopatra lived closer in time to humans landing on the moon than the building of the Pyramids.

it's hard to recall random facts when there is not a particular subject at hand. >:

2 of the world's largest empires--the Roman and Mongol empires--are each responsible for us not being more advanced right now despite each having their own innovations; the Romans destroyed the Library of Alexandria, and the Mongols destroyed the Grand Library of Baghdad, both of which (the latter especially) are believed to have had copies of pretty much every scholarly book written in their parts of the world. The Grand Library of Baghdad was at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and Asia and thus is believed to have had much more.

Baghdad also used to not be a desert. They had a sophisticated irrigation system that was destroyed by the Mongols in that same conquest.

                            • Before the 1900's the colour for boys was blue, and girls were donned in pink. Pink was considered to be a more forceful colour as opposed to the more paler, quieter blue.
                            • In the 19th century the word "girls" actually meant something like "children." Not sex-specific. Male children were called "nave girls" and female children were called "gay girls." And the word boy just meant "servant".

afaik it's less of a fact than it is an argument of semantics though. it reminds me of the dominant sabino gene in horses. i could be wrong, but so could stephen fry. the QI research team isn't always 100% accurate

True that, but I was watching it the other day and it's one of the few I remembered. Good show though, QI.
