However, there are quite a lot of good DS games out there, so it's worth it regardless. As for the 3DS, Gamestop doesn't have a street date for it yet, so I have no clue when it's going to be available. My guess is not for at least another 6 months.
I'd suggest you go buy a DS Lite or an original, and buy the 3DS when it comes out. That way you're not spending $100 on a soon-to-be outdated console, and you have backwards compatibility with the GBA.
Though I'm quite certain the 3DS is backwards compatible with the DS.

Like Toasty said though, there's a lot of good games on the DS that you can get pretty cheap now as most of the good games on the DS are old. Keep in mind that the 3DS is only a few months away, so if you got the cash just hang on to get that as the DS is gonna be dropped completely like Nintendo always does when their new systems come out...

'Course somehow, the iPhone managed to shoe-horn it's way into the gaming market by offering good-quality games for dirt-cheap, and for digital download at the same time (probably thanks to it's app market not inducing huge markups on the retail cost of the apps, and thanks to the huge indie-dev scene it enjoys). So there's a good chance you're going to see it start to cannibalize the portable gaming market. And if Android gets it's act together, you'll see something similar for Android phones.

Someone Else, on 28 December 2010 - 02:30 PM, said:
This. The general consensus of handheld games now is to have some sort of "arcade" type simplicity; a basic concept (firing birds out a catapult) with progressively difficult levels. There's hardly ever a cause for narrative and it just seems a waste. Something like Dark Dawn could work pretty well on an iPhone; it's turn based and doesnt require too much button input.
I guess it's just simpler for handheld developers to go for the easy cash-cow games with high scores, rather than engaging plot-driven ones.

3DS is definitely more expensive either way. Hell, it has the friggin' Wii's launch tag. Everyone else has said it, though...never buy a console/handheld just for one game, but in the case of the DS, there are so many good games for it that you might as well grab one. It actually wouldn't hurt to wait for the 3DS at this point if you're willing to shell out the $250, since it comes out in March.

Could I expect a price drop after a year or so? Or should I wait for the 3DS Lite SP Advance by then..?
