Kinda what the topic says, is Dark Dawn worth to buy a new DS for? Especially since the 3DS might be comming out soon (dunno when though).

I haven't got Dark Dawn yet, but I wouldn't buy any games console based on just one game.

Never played DD (my sis is playing it now compliments the GSS contest x.x), but I would advise getting a DS regardless of DD. There are so many good games out on the DS... Maybe you should wait for the 3DS, since I think it is backward compatible if you're not sure.

If you a fan of the Golden Sun series then yes, a the game and a DS is worth the buy.

Well, even as a fan I'm slightly disappointed with it (though that may be the exact reason I'm disappointed). It's got a couple of pretty bad flaws, but it's still a good game.

However, there are quite a lot of good DS games out there, so it's worth it regardless. As for the 3DS, Gamestop doesn't have a street date for it yet, so I have no clue when it's going to be available. My guess is not for at least another 6 months.

I'd suggest you go buy a DS Lite or an original, and buy the 3DS when it comes out. That way you're not spending $100 on a soon-to-be outdated console, and you have backwards compatibility with the GBA.

Though I'm quite certain the 3DS is backwards compatible with the DS.

No single game is worth buying a whole system for. Dark Dawn is good so far. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, and being realistic, that's all you should hope for from a sequel. It's probably the weakest entry in the series though, but considering the last two games were awesome that's not a terrible thing. No backtracking (unless I'm missing something) is a huge mark against the game and I have no idea why they took it out, going back to old areas with new Psynergy was a strong point in the previous games.

Like Toasty said though, there's a lot of good games on the DS that you can get pretty cheap now as most of the good games on the DS are old. Keep in mind that the 3DS is only a few months away, so if you got the cash just hang on to get that as the DS is gonna be dropped completely like Nintendo always does when their new systems come out...

Yeah, just by looking around in the DS section of our little store I can see at least 10 games under $15 I'd be willing to buy (all used, but even so). As far as portable gaming is concerned, the DS is the system to buy. Granted, there's a freaking ton of crap in it's library, but I've found more games worth buying for the DS than for the PSP. That's based on my preferences though.

'Course somehow, the iPhone managed to shoe-horn it's way into the gaming market by offering good-quality games for dirt-cheap, and for digital download at the same time (probably thanks to it's app market not inducing huge markups on the retail cost of the apps, and thanks to the huge indie-dev scene it enjoys). So there's a good chance you're going to see it start to cannibalize the portable gaming market. And if Android gets it's act together, you'll see something similar for Android phones.

This is going off-topic, but I'd say it's already cannibalizing the portable games market, I hear everyone talking about crap like Angry Birds and there's even games being powered by Unreal on the damn thing. It's going to fill it's own niche, though, until phones can sort out battery issues and decent control schemes (you need buttons for anything other than simple games dammit, none of this touch screen or Kinect crap) I can't imagine it completely replacing what you and I consider to be portable gaming. That, and you can't really make a game much larger than half a gig for it. Angry Birds is a decent time killer, but it's not a full gaming experience like Golden Sun.

This. The general consensus of handheld games now is to have some sort of "arcade" type simplicity; a basic concept (firing birds out a catapult) with progressively difficult levels. There's hardly ever a cause for narrative and it just seems a waste. Something like Dark Dawn could work pretty well on an iPhone; it's turn based and doesnt require too much button input.

I guess it's just simpler for handheld developers to go for the easy cash-cow games with high scores, rather than engaging plot-driven ones.

Get a cheap DS or wait for the 3DS.

I'm extremely poor so the 3DS, I'm not too sure about. How much is it gonna cost anyway?

Wasn't DS Lite, like, around $150 at launch?

3DS is definitely more expensive either way. Hell, it has the friggin' Wii's launch tag. Everyone else has said it, though...never buy a console/handheld just for one game, but in the case of the DS, there are so many good games for it that you might as well grab one. It actually wouldn't hurt to wait for the 3DS at this point if you're willing to shell out the $250, since it comes out in March.

Could I expect a price drop after a year or so? Or should I wait for the 3DS Lite SP Advance by then..?
