I mean, people like me are continually making huge chats using a lot of pages in the spam forum. If theres a chatbox we can prevent Irrelevent messages and lots of Memory on the forums database from being used.

They are more trouble than they're worth and an IM program or the chat I provided does the job.

This is simply because it is made to attract the members, it keeps the member's in the site hands in a tight grip so they wouldn't get loose...
So, to keep all of the members here, we can't use the same old fassion way of posting, nearly all sites have a forum and a Shoutbox/Chatbox (more so the shoutbox) is a new way of attracting members so I say lets give it a try!

Overall, I think that it should not happen.

I think the advantages outweigh the disavantages.

First there's the look factor, how out of place will a shoutbox look on the main page of a forum? We have to consider the styles, fonts etc.
Then there's moderating, it's just one more thing I have to do.
Plus, like you said, it will just get spam, who wants the front page with spam on it, for all to see? Not me, that's for darn sure.
And er, what the the advantages exactly?

1. It allows you to just have a real time friendly chat with other GSS members without the hastle of just making a topic and communicate with members without doing a long hastle of PMing or IMing. Eg. Blah, Blah 1, Blah 2 and Blah 3 are online. They can great each other on the shoutbox
2. Well, it could be the new place to post random things. :silence:
3. It looks cool, contradicting to what you said, + It could be placed anywhere in the forum anyways.
http://www.et.pyroma...y.com/index.php click [Launch Shoutbox] a good example of the the coolness of shoutboxes, it is used to discus non-important factors.
Disadvantages:
1. Another place for moderation and spam (this is a huge disavantage I admit). Yep that's it.

2. The less random things the better.
3. Their shotubox is on the site though, not the forums. So that example is void.

You post with a username, and a message; sounds a lot like this forum.
And with still have to wait for the user to come online/respond. It is the exact same thing as creating a topic in the spam forum.
I gave you a chatroom I hosted and you can use IM programs to mass chat.
Here is the hosted chatroom I am providing:
