School started a week ago, and I've settled into the routine of school and homework. For a few weeks now I've been planning the future of this site, which at this point is basically twofold: GSW and a new, revamped GSS mainsite. The former you are all probably aware of, and won't be discussed at this time. The latter will be the focus of the rest of this post:

Although GSS already consists of a ton of information about the games, and has seen several revisions of the content so that it has become relatively polished and organized, there is still some work to be done before it will be in the "archival" form that I would like. Thus I have decided to redesign and reorganize and add content. I've had some pages sitting on my computer for ages that I've never put up because they were a mess, and many of the current pages can be reorganized into more useable forms. Some work was done a few months ago to record video for all the summons, and I'm going to work on getting videos for all the unleashes as well.

In the process of 'redoing" the site, all the content will be moved into a database format so that I can easily add new content and change the way it is displayed without having to fuss with HTML editors and FTP all the time. Entering everything into the database will take time, so if anyone has some time and is experienced with phpMyAdmin and would like to help, send me an email or PM.

Last year I had a design competition where several of site and forum visitors submitted site designs for GSS, 3 of which are options for new site visitors to choose from. I'd like to do a similar ordeal, except that all designs can be submitted directly to me via PM/email. The winner will receive credit on the site and may receive extra compensation. Designs should be two-column (menu, content), probably with a banner at the top in the traditional format. Color scheme is up to you. Design must include some sample text in both the menu and content area to establish the color theme.

This has become a very long post, so I'm going to stop here. I will be sure to keep everyone apprised of my progress in this great endeavor, and I assure you that the result will be well worth the two years wait. GSS will finally become the near-definitive GS/TLA resource it was envisioned to be.

      FIRST!

You can expect a design from me. Anything specific you would like included?

I'll also assume Agatio and maybe Andross will also PM you some designs. None from me of course.

Would you mind my suggestion for a on site php_switcher?

It would just be a small, 20 x 10 pixel rectangle with one colour (to match the scheme) in a part of the header or nav. bar.

              Typical Aussie :)

I have no experince in site managing and computer skins for sites etc etc, so i'm no help.

Interesting how after this long you've thought of new ideas for the site.

That reminds me of a question that bugs me eternally...how do you film something on a GBA?

You've gotta record it from its ROM. The Visual Boy Advance emulator has a function for recording the games, but you can also use Fraps.

There is no "end" to the competition, however, the sooner I get entries the better. I would say two weeks would be a reasonable time to get it in, after that I might have chosen one already.

I would like to offer and help with the archiving of the pages into a database, but with school starting, I'm spending less and less time on the computer as it is. And I suck at coming up with original designs, and suck at graphics. So I'll probably just be a bystander and watch the whole thing.

Yes, PDM (IIRC), Max and I all recorded summons from the TLA ROM. They are top quality and look great.

Ditto. The skins look great, we've got very thorough and useful information, and the site functions well except for a few broken links here and there last I checked. If there's room for improvement, well then we'll get a damn good site if it's improved. :)

Yay. Max is finally putting them up. That's all I care about.
