I've got a pretty juicy one. Although the artists aren't numerous, I have 3288 songs at 9.5 days worth and 18.49 GBs (which fills up my iPod pretty much to the max). Most common genre is Classic Rock, followed by some Punk Rock and Alternative. The albums I have are either a nice slice of discography or greatest hits compilations. I may only have one album for some if they're a relatively new band (Arcade Fire for instance). So, what about everyone else, eh?

btw, here are all of the artists in my collection:

    Alan Parsons
    Alice Cooper
    Arcade Fire
    The Beatles
    Black Sabbath
    Blue Oyster Cult
    Bob Dylan
    Buffalo Springfield
    The Clash
    Coldplay
    Cream
    Creedence Clearwater Revival
    The Cure
    Cursive
    David Bowie
    Death Cab For Cutie
    Deep Purple
    The Doobie Brothers
    The Doors
    The Eagles
    Electric Light Orchestra
    Eric Clapton
    Foreigner
    Frank Zappa
    Fugazi
    Genesis
    Guns and Roses
    Interpol
    Jethro Tull
    Kansas
    The Kinks
    Led Zeppelin
    Metallica
    Motorhead
    Neil Young
    Neil Young and Crazy Horse
    Pink Floyd
    The Pixies
    The Postal Service
    Queen
    R.E.M.
    Radiohead
    Rage Against the Machine
    The Ramones
    The Rolling Stones
    The Smiths
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Styx
    Supertramp
    Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
    U2
    The Who
    Yes
    ZZ Top

I have many more on my computer, but these are the only actual CDs I have.

so as you can see, I don't have a huge variety of artists - I mostly specialize. most of my albums are prog rock - mostly from the 70s (Genesis, Rush, Yes), and I also like some more modern (90s) prog like DT, Porcupine Tree, and Spock's Beard (Marillion is 80s, so they're kinda in between)

x.x...It's easier to look at mine here: http://www.last.fm/user/Shebah/

The post would be...long (and probably no one would read it) if I were to post all artists and their respective CDs.

I'm not really an avid music lover. Combined with a really picky taste and you have someone with a really small playlist. I have a total of 5-7 artists B)

Been through and deleted my crap music. Now I got 11.8gig. Mostly metal now though the occasional rock/emo/hardcore band is thrown into the mix. Still too many artists, and I can't be facked going through my music folder and copying down all the names.

Just counted, and I own 76 bought albums (plus a few more singles I have from long ago).
I just prefer to own the product rather than 12 or 13 mp3s on my computer. If I download an album I love, I will shell out the 20 or 30 bucks and buy it. Not just because you get the real disc and booklet, but because it's supporting the band. I usually leave JB HI-FI after every visit with at least 2 albums, usually 3 or 4.
And at last count, I have 2,209 songs on my computer. I sifted through and deleted some crap (I had a few rap songs, some shocking emo and a few pop songs I liked).

Awesome. I suggest you move from Metallica into Pantera (much better guitar work and slightly more brutal vocals, though he does clean singing on earlier albums like 'Cowboys from Hell'). Pantera will open you to a plethora of thrash bands, which will take you to Lamb of God, most likely the borderline band between thrash and death.

Though if you prefer RATM, they can take you more into hip hop in the later releases, or into hard rock if you like the earlier stuff (I own the self titled album and Battle for Los Angeles).

And I see you like Dream Theatre! I'm not a fan, but that level of technicality may steer you towards power metal, and in turn melodeath (brutal vocals, but amazing guitar/key work).

Anyway, seems you're in early stages yet, as the other day you were a Kayne West fan o.o.

Well I've been into Rock/Metal for several months now. :P I don't mind Rap or Urban but it sort of died on my taste after a friend of mine got me into Rock and Metal. So basically in other words, yes, there are very few artists I like from that genre now. *shrug*

I'm not sure about Power Metal, I've listened to groups such as Dragon Force and Gamma Ray which really didn't implement itself in my interests much. But I suppose I should try and listen to some others in the near future. Metallica aren't my favorite, but sometimes I like to listen to them when I want to listen to more rhythmical Thrash Metal. Never got into Pantera though, I'll try them later as well.

Yeh I like most of the older stuff from RATM. The later isn't bad, but their first two albums kicked the most butt for me. Tom Morello is a brilliant guitarist in my opinion. :P

Death Metal, I'm pretty much still indifferent to this genre. It's not bad or anything, some of Opeths' songs are pretty good in my book... But I don't know, it just doesn't do it for me yet. Mainly because I'm not too fond of most Death Metal vocalists I've heard.

Ah, no one can go from Hip Hop to Death metal in a few months, it's taken me around 2 years to go from bands like Green Day to Carpathian Forest and Behemoth. It takes time for the ear to develop and ease into more extreme music I think, no one goes from Kayne West to Cannibal Corpse over night.

Though if you're looking for more intelligent music over grunt and aggression, bands like Dream Theatre are a good start and will lead you into other less mainstream bands and open doors to the underground metal/rock/experimental scenes.

A few more bands for future reference:

In Flames, Norther, Kalmah, Children of Bodom, Imperanon, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity.

They have top notch guitarists and melodics, as well as symphonics and some insane drumming thrown into the mix, though the vocals will take getting used to.

Strangely, I got into metal through Apocalyptica. I saw their 'plays metallica by four cellos' album on a website (while looking at Massive Attack and Ministry of Sound albums! SHAME!) and thought it would be interesting (I had never heard Metallica in my life, lol). Downloaded some of that, and then discovered their recent stuff and got completely addicted. I then downloaded more Metallica songs and never turned back.

And I have Agatio to thank for introducing me to real man's metal, cheers!

I'd just like to add that discovering metal before rock and Apocalyptica before Metallica makes me, potentially, the strangest person (musically) to ever walk the earth... (though one can argue that I am actually the strangest person ever, regardless of whether i discovered Dark Tranquillity before Green Day or Opeth before Garbage)

I watched in shock and horror as Father Brown ground <br />my precious instrument to splinters beneath his feet...'<br /><br />I know it's most unusual<br />To come before you so<br />But I've found an ancient miracle<br />I thought that you should know<br />Listen to my music<br />And hear what it can do<br />There's something here as strong as life<br />I know that it will reach you<br /><br />Yes, we know, it's nothing new<br />It's just a waste of time<br />We have no need for ancient ways<br />The world is doing fine<br />Another toy will help destroy<br />The elder race of man<br />Forget about your silly whim<br />It doesn't fit the plan<br /><br />I can't believe you're saying<br />These things just can't be true<br />Our world could use this beauty<br />Just think what we might do<br />Listen to my music<br />And hear what it can do<br />There's something here as strong as life<br />I know that it will reach you<br /><br />Don't annoy us further!<br />We have our work to do<br />Just think about the average<br />What use have they for you?<br />Another toy will help destroy<br />The elder race of man<br />Forget about your silly whim<br />It doesn't fit the Plan!<br /><br />[V. Oracle: The Dream]<br /><br />'...I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly yet I see <br />the beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the staircase...'<br /><br />'...I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure spirit of man <br />revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed by both wonder and <br />understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a way that had been crushed <br />by the Federation long ago. Soliloquy]<br /><br />'...I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my total <br />despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I can no longer live <br />under the control of the Federation, but there is no other place to go. We are your overlords. <br /><br />On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore. <br /><br />So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins, <br />For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.

Is that who you're talking about when you said "Yes" as a band, Andross?
