Has anyone else noticed that the forums aren't running nearly as fast as they usually are? Over the past couple of days I've found that GSSF has been running fairly slowly over my DSL connection, sometimes taking 20 seconds or more to load.

As I've noted, it's only started recently for me. Has anyone else been lagging, too?

I get that from time to time. I think we should keep an eye on it using that debug data thing on the bottom of the forum.

I thought it was just my school computers (that is where 80% of my forum posting is spent), but now that im at home I can def. see what you're talking about.

I thought it was just my computer, too, since I've been noticing some lag as well. But if you all say it is, then I guess it is the forum.

I have noticed this too but I doubt it's anything to do with GSSF. Server load could be high (which is a combination of things) or the server Max is on could just be getting congested.

Anyways, I'll talk to Max and see about getting a server load indicator put on the forums or something.

Today, it seems much much worse. Now the lag is twice as bad and it's consistent.

Perhaps this has to do with the database size? Maybe there needs to be a big pruning (i don't know if you can automate it with 2.1, but i know you couldn't in 2.0) and that maybe it's time to delete some zero-posters to reduce the db size and hopefully the lag.

I really don't think it's the db or anything. I know sites with hundreds, or even thousands more posts than this forum and they run smoother than here.

Actually, the server load isn't very high, so I don't think it is the database. I've been trying to figure out what the deal is, but haven't had much success. I'll continue searching for the problem.

Yes, my searching and Add REplies have stated to become pretty slow. BUt it is not crazy...I can deal with it.

Come to think of it, it doesn't really bother me much. It's a forum, really, not an IM where we have to say soemthing before the other person thinks somethign went wrong. I prefer to be able to take my time posting, it's not like we have a time limit of less than a minute. The occaisional pressing of the reload button isn't much of a problem either, really.

I think it might be because of the switch to IPB 2.0, there are more features to load so maybe that's why it's taking longer. I agree with MD, though, it doesn't bother me much.

Is it just me or is it really... really... REALLY slow today? It might be my connection (gets laggy somedays for no reason) but I want to check just in case.

It was doing that to me a couple of days ago, too.

But n'ah. I don't think it's IPB 2.1. I used to run my forum on IPB 2.0 (when I could afford it) and it was fine. IIRC there isn't a whole lot of new things user-side in 2.1, except maybe AJAX editing. Maybe the database just needs one huge optimization.

It was pretty bad last night... GSSF wouldn't even load period. I kept getting this message saying something along the lines of too many people being online, when there were only, what? Four members online. Maybe it has something to do with search bots? Maybe we should have a limit as to how many unregistered users can be on.

That happened to me too. Not even the news page on GSS was loading properly.

I'm sure the cause of these slow downs are the normal high-server loads that hosts experience during peak-hours.

                                              All hosts have these.
