I guess I should explain who Mark Foley is. Mark Foley is a republican member of the house of representatives...well not anymore he isn't. But he was!

Yesterday, Mark Foley resigned from his position in the house. The 11 year member of the house's resignation was sudden, but it had to be. So, why did he resign?

On September 29, 2006, ABC became informed that Mark Foley was exchanging instant messages with young pages that were sexually explicit. He had been exchanging these messages over the last three years with pages from around Washington. Many of his instant messages were acquired by ABC, and had this story been aired while Foley was still a representative, chances are he would lose his job and be subjected to more than just criminal charges.

There are a few messages that aren't...appropriate for a forum of this nature, but I will post one of them, where Foley (Maf54) tries to convince a page to meet him.

    Quote

Maf54: I want to see you
Teen: Like I said not til feb…then we will go to dinner
    Maf54: and then what happens
    Teen: we eat…we drink…who knows…hang out…late into the night
    Maf54: and
    Teen: I dunno
    Maf54: dunno what
Teen: hmmm I have the feeling that you are fishing here…
im not sure what I would be comfortable with…well see

This story is pretty sick and I wanted to see what you guys think of it. Foley is obviously out of a job, but there may be prison in his future. To think that this kind of stuff is happening inside the government is somewhat disconcerting. But enough of me, what do you think?

PHantOm is totally right. Anyway, this is, how should I say... I'll just go with you guys and say sick.
If we were to know all the things politicians keep doing there would be a never-ending wave of scandalism. And that's not healthy.

He's been doing this for three years. Isn't anyone a little bit disturbed that he hasn't been held accountable for this? He's in the government, which by definition should set a good example for the rest of the nation. This is wrong. It has to stop. And politicians should not be able to get away with this for three years.

I agree with you SoT, but you know what's even more disturbing? The post he held,

                Quote

was chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, which introduced legislation targeting sexual predators and creating stricter guidelines for tracking them.

                Talk about being a hypocrite!

In 2002, he argued against sexually exploiting children on national television. If there is a definition of hypocrite, it is definitely Mark Foley.

Woah, "messages" was in a line down 3 times.

But really, that is just...sick. Child molesters are nasty, but one that managed to get elected to the House of Representitaves...Governments seem to be getting more and more messed up...

Governments were always messed up. SoT says that politicians should set a good example to the rest of the nation and should help the said nation, and that's of course true. They should do that. Unfortunately, the worst criminals are politicians in almost every country. A country that has even one politician who hasn't entered politics only to take advantage of what his job gives him is a very lucky country.
