    Never saw this one coming.

Seems like Google is really intent on dominating the internet... its acquisition of YouTube is a step in the right direction, in that case. A huge step.

    Comments, Thoughts?

      Me either.

I was suprised when I heard it on the news 2 days ago. I wonder what their real intentions are. Although the news described YouTube as a small video sharing community... That is totally false. >.>''

      But hey, it all works.

Huh...how is owning YouTube profitable to them? I mean, besides ads and stuff, but still...

Dude, for the right site like myspace/youtube and other places where alot of people go, companies pay top dollar to have thier ads on the site, and honestly the adds work. I got vonage, want a cingular phone and basically from the adds I can determine the type of things I want versus the competetors.

I heard about this. I thought they would combine youtube with google video, but aparantly they are leaving it as it is for now.

I swear, if they do anything to Youtube before I finish watching Love Hina, I will kill

I was quite surprised about this. Still, Youtube's creators got a good amount out of it.

It is more money than Google has ever paid for an acquisition of a company. That was probably a foregone conclusion, but still. It's a good fact to know.

I did mean it in a sarcastic, 'I know that's a hell of a lot of money' way. Sorry if it went over your head. ;)

Also, since this is purely an investment move, will Youtube be changed at all? Because the acquisition has been made, will there be a link to Youtube on the Google Search page? Will all the 'Google Video' videos be imported to Youtube?

It's an interesting point. Surely they intend to do something with it, if they're going to spend so much. I guess we'll wait and see.

I should point out that Google Video and YouTube will remain entirely separate. In fact, with the exception of changes in the ads, and links, I doubt we'll notice much change.

It's funny that google would pay however much it was for YouTube (1.6 billion?). How the hell can they splash money like that around? Save the whales for god sake ;)
