So what do you guys think of the change in the timing of daylight savings time tonight? (I know, I got confused just saying that.) They're likening it to a second Y2K. Now, last Y2K, planes fell from the sky, the banking system collapsed, sewers were backed up, nuclear war was unintentionally declared, squirrels conquered Washington D.C., and gremilns stole everyone's left shoe. (Or so I assume. I was down in my bomb shelter and was too busy polishing my Zombie Rifle to notice.) So what are your opinions? All hype? Or considerably more hype?

No hype. The worst that could happen is robots takeing over the world because of it. :P It's just a change in the day that daylight savings time is implimented. If your PC doesn't change automatically, you can always set it yourself.

In casinos they do it at 3AM instead of 2AM so that they don't have to serve alcohol for an extra hour.

So what will actually happen when daylight saving time is changed? Do I HAVE to change it on my PC? I'm asking all of this because I don't really care about it, unless I absolutely have to fear the change.

I think it's only for North Americans... Well actually, I dunno... and infact, I have no idea why you guys do it. Please aid my ignorance :(

            Here we don't DST.

I'd prefer that we didn't do it personally, but I don't run the country. (Yet)

But I shall nonetheless explain. DST is only important in high latitudes because the solstices make a big difference. You probably don't notice the change (and thus, don't need DST) because Grenada has a rather low latitude. Here, on the winter solsice we get about eight hours of daylight. That's not much to work with. Since we don't like waking up in the dark, we shift our activity cycles to one hour later at the Autumnal Equinox. At the summer solstice we have sixteen hours of daylight. Those 5AM sunrises get to you after awhile, so we change the clocks back. The issue this year is that Congress has moved the date of the timechange 2 weeks earlier (Don't ask me why. no one can explain congress.) which is confusing systems that are set to change at the Vernal Equinox.

                ... Meaning?

Kidding, I understood. But I sure am glad we don't have DST here.

Once the automatic coffee makers go off at the wrong time at work tomorrow, it'll truly be the end of the world.

And although there are many reasons that Congress moved Daylight Savings back a bit, I've heard that it was also on the part of the candy companies lobbying for a safer Halloween or something. Oh, the things we do for free candy.
