If you or your company were to release a console today, what would you name it? I'm hoping we actually get good suggestions....

Sorry Apple, but the handheld industry is best left to the people who actually know what they're doing in that area.

I think Apple would do a great job at innovating the video game industry and making quality hardware. They always do those in the other industries. Only question is would their console sell well.

Well, Nintendo's reasoning on not choosing the name "Revolution" was that it was too difficult to market in different parts of the globe... it's convoluted enough just saying Nintendo Revolution in English, let alone in markets like Japan, etc.


On a side note, I think the codename for the DS when it was in development was the "Nitro".

i haven't decided on a good name yet, but i am acctauly sketching up possiable plans for what i think will be the generation after next in video gaming. i think it will be cool useing something along the lines of blending holographic tech, and virtual reality. i even have a small game idea line up for. but i have to wait till current technology catches up with the constantly changing plan in order to make it. i really cant say anything else now, but when i've made some headway on it i try and tell you more.

Well, they've used the Gameboy name millions of times, and they've used NES twice. Also, it seems to be popular for consoles to have the same name now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they used Wii again, considering the succees of the console.

Personally, as the successor to the Wii, I think Nintendo should go for "Niio". The double I's ("ii") is reminiscent of Wii, while the name sounds similar to "Neo", which if market properly, would give the feeling of something, new, innovative, fresh, etc. - all over again.

Nah. That's not really like Nintendo. They've grown away from repeating console names, like the NES to SNES, and now they seem to prefer to name their merchandise "creatively."
Ninty's next console's name will be entirely different IMO. Not quite sure what that'd be though.

It all comes down to what they think makes good business sense. After all, they're a company, and profit comes first. If they think it's a good idea to leave the Wii name for their next console, they'll probably completely forget about their streak of changing names.
